By ATLCat - 1. Johnson Central (4A, 0-0)- The Eagles jump into action with a Pre-Season Top 5 team from West Virginia when they welcome the athletic Capital Cougars squad. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 1-0)- Corbin was not necessarily in mid-season form against Whitley County, but they also left no doubt they are for real once more. 3A Notebook: Room at the Top for Two?

By gchs_uk9 - Boyle and Central Impressive in Opening Night Victories Much of the preseason talk in Class 3A has been about Boyle County and their potential for winning a second consecutive state championship. With offensive superstars like Reese Smith, Landen Bartleson, and Reed Lanter returning the excitement is certainly warranted. However, with heavy losses on both the offensive and defensive lines there is measured caution for the Rebels this early in the season. Boyle opened the 2018 campaign on Saturday afternoon with a 35-21 victory over 6A #10 Ballard in the Little Caesars Fort Harrod... Read More → 2018 Mr. Football Watchlist

By DevilMayCare - A list of true Mr. Football candidates could probably be whittled down to just a handful of players with a realistic shot at winning the award. But, in an effort to expand the scope of exposure to all classes and all corners of the state, we've decided to stretch that handful of candidates into a broader watchlist. You'll find a wide range of players listed here… - Dual threat and pocket passing Quarterbacks - Skill players posting astronomical numbers - Big guys doing the dirty work in the trenches Read More → Class 1A Preseason Preview

By Voice of Reason - Déjà vu All Over Again? In 2017 class 1A, the Beechwood Tigers repeated as champions. Are we going to see another repeat in 2018? The Tigers enter 2018 as strong favorites to win another title. But there are always twists and turns. Teams make unexpected gains and become contenders. There are several teams in 1A this year that could be that unexpected title contender. Most of those are on the east side of the state and will battle each other for a trip to Lexington. Leading the strong contenders list is Pikeville, who defeated Beechwood in the 2015 title game. In the two years since... Read More → Class 2A PreSeason Preview

By ATLCat - Big Time Recruits Dominate Small Class Football Landscape It is not uncommon for Class 2A to have some of the best players in the Bluegrass State, but 2018 seems to be a special year as four different players have spent their summer collecting offers and taking visits to many high-profile Division 1 schools. Newport Central Catholic RB/LB Kyle Kelly exploded with offers to basically a “Who’s Who” of MAC schools. Kelly recently committed to Ohio University, the first school to get on board with an offer, and is expected to play Linebacker at the next level. Christian Academy-... By gchs_uk9 - 1. Boyle County (2017: 14-1; Class 3A State Champions) Why Yes: After falling to Central in the second round of the playoffs in each of their first two seasons back in Class 3A, the Rebels roared to their eighth state championship in school history in 2017, losing only one game in the process. Now the Rebels look to make it back-to-back titles, something they last accomplished in 2009 and 2010, and will do so with a ton of returning offensive weapons. Quarterback Reed Lanter passed for 2,597 yards and 28 touchdowns against only four interceptions in 2017 and was very impressive on the summer... Read More → Class 4A Preseason Preview

By DragonFire - 4A was quite possibly the most difficult class to get a handle on a season ago. 18 teams appeared in the top 10. Teams like Knox Central and Logan County weren’t exactly on the radar to begin with, but made incredibly strong runs as the season wore on to make believers of us all. Logan County in particular was a great story. It seemed that just about every time we thought we knew what was going to happen, some curveball was introduced. Late in the season, that curveball was an unexpected Johnson Central loss to Ashland, dethroning the team that had been #1 all year long. One Johnson... Read More → Class 5A Preseason Preview

By DevilMayCare - The King is dead?... Long live the King? This time last year, most followers of 5A football in the Bluegrass were wondering who, if anyone, could put an end to Bowling Green's stranglehold on the class. The Purples had run off five of the previous six titles in 5A, amassing an astounding 84-3 record along the way. Even with the graduation of 2016 Mr. Football Jamale Carothers, Bowling Green was still the overwhelming preseason pick to make it six titles in seven years - a testament to Coach Kevin Wallace and his staff’s ability to develop talent and reload year after year. Across town,... Read More → Class 6A Preseason Preview

By Bac2369 - The Kentucky High School Football season is almost here. The 2018 season in Class 6A will have two very interesting questions to answer. Can Defending Champions Trinity win the title again and complete a three peat? And how long before they lose a game? For those who don’t know, Trinity is on a 30 game winning streak and counting. So 6A will be an interesting class to keep an eye on. The playoff format for this year will put District 1 playing District 4 and District 2 playing District 3. The other side of the bracket will have District 5 playing District 8 and District 6 playing District 7.... Read More →

Russell 13 Rowan County 6 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - The final game of the grid was a colossal defensive battle that unofficially totaled 167 yards of offense. There were 20 passes thrown, with 3 being completed and 1 picked off, that went for a score. In all unofficially there were 81 plays ran, with one team running 52 of them. Unofficially one team netted minus 5 yards in the first half, while the other had 59. The first quarter would see a 15 yard run from,Cole Wallace of the Vikings as the biggest offensive play. That play took place with 3:45 left in the quarter. With 2:56 left Wallace was hit and dropped by a host of Red Devils,... Read More →

Lewis County 34 Boyd County 21 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - Lewis County 34 Boyd County 21 This was my first time catching a game at Russell high school and I have to say it was a nice experience. The home stands set up high and at the very top you have enough overhang to block out most of the rain. The stadium is well lit and very open. Just remember this covers only the varsity portion of the contest. With 10:39 showing on the clock Boyd County called on Thomas Salyer and all he did was pick up ten yards, using his line and some John Riggins like power to gain the yards.Staying with the ground and pound plan Boyd County called on... East Carter 48 Fairview 0 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - East Carter 48 Fairview 00 Game two from East Carter High School was a battle between the home team Raiders and the visiting Eagles. I had a sense about how Fairview was going to look, after talking to some from the area. I knew a little about East in talking to a coach from another team in the area. I took this from this game, East Carter was able to work on a lot and was very classy in not making this a lot worse, as they used a lot of players in a lot of different ways. Fairview was beaten in every way a team can be beat, but to the credit of the players, they never stopped giving it... Read More →

Greenup County 26 West Carter 17 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - Friday night I made the drive to East Carter High School to watch the battler between The Musketeers from Greenup County and the very young Comets from West Carter. Though this was a grid game both teams seemed to want to come out with the win, but I believe neither team showed their complete playbook, even though West Carter pulled off a double handoff with a pitch back to the quarterback, that went for a very long gain. The crowd was a decent size but I would say smaller than in the past year, that I have taken this event in. Some construction on a bridge very close to the stadium... Read More →
