13th Region Week 1 Review

By Les - 1. South Laurel (1-1 overall, 0-0 vs. 13th Region competition) The Cardinals were able to rebound from their loss to Scott County and notch a big win during Friday’s Legacy Nissan Classic win over Tennessee’s Athens Prep. Junior Matthew Cromer scored 33 points in the 88-80 win while senior JJ Ramey added 28 points. The duo was also the leading scorers during South Laurel’s 96-65 loss to top-ranked Scott County. A loss is a loss, but I feel a whole lot better about this Cardinals team after I saw Scott County knock off No. 4 ranked Ballard by 28 points. 2. Knox Central (1-0, 1-0)... Read More →

10th Region Week 1 Review

By One Great Scorer - 1. Campbell County The Camels proved with 9 point win over GRC they are still the top dogs in the 10th Region. They lost the next day to Walnut Ridge, OH. Drew Wilson led the Camels in scoring I believe with 21 (stats not on KHSAA). Reid Jolly was in foul trouble early in the 1st half but still managed a double double. 2. George Rogers Clark They lost to Campbell County, but they are still tough to beat. Jordan Graham only scored 4 points in this one, Brennan Canada scored 13. They started off the week with a blowout over Bath County. 3. Scott Scott had led by 17 in the 2nd... Read More →

Butler is set to Bullitt East, Moore and Frankfort during the second week of the 2018-19 season. 2. Fern Creek (1-1): Fern Creek didn't have an ideal start to its latest... Read More →

15th Region Week 1 Review

By 15th Region - Overview: The 15th Region saw one of their top teams push one of the best in the 16th to double overtime, a few teams stumble and some early surprises after one week of play. This will be a fun, competitive region to follow throughout the year. Updated rankings are as follows. Rankings (overall record): 1. (-) Johnson Central (1-0) - The Golden Eagles opened the season strong with a dominating win over Jackson County at home by a final of 81-52. Never trailing in the game, JC put four players in double figures led by Cory VanHoose who posted 21 points and 12 rebounds. Isaiah May (15... Read More →

8th Region Week 1 Review: Way Too Early to Tell How This Will Shake Out

By ColonelMike - 8th Region Week 1 in Review OK, I may not get any other prediction right this year, but I'm already right about one thing: this poll may be the most "fluid" we've seen in a while. I think it's going to see significant movements, including some teams that may sink early, only to rise again late in the year. (or this may be the year the joke about a blind squirrel finding an acorn every now and then may apply to this ranking!) Last year, I felt really comfortable with that pre-season preview, and, in the end, the final rankings were a practical mirror of that pre-season ranking. ... Read More →

2nd Region Week 1 Review

By silo11 - This is not the 2nd region we are used to seeing here in Kentucky. With the exception of UHA, the top teams in the region have all taken significant losses already. At the moment it seems that University Heights is the cream of the crop for the region, and then everyone else is looking up with lots of questions. As of now UHA looks to be worthy of the excitement. Here is what happened in Region 2 this week. 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#4 2018-19 record: 3-0 Week’s Record: 3-0 The Blazers surprised a lot of people when they opened the season as #4 in... Read More →

5th Region Week 1 Review

By Sportslover32 - 1. Larue County (1-0): The region favorite Larue, started the year with an overtime win. They beat a good team in Valley 64-60 going to overtime in the Corky Cox Classic at home. Mark Goode was fantastic for the Hawks as he had 22 points and 16 rebounds. The Hawks have only had four of the five starters for a week due to their football team making State Semis, so this team getting this win to start off the year is impressive. 2. Central Hardin (2-0): The Bruins had a good start to the year with two lopsided victories. They beat Nelson County at home 78-47 and beat Owensboro in the KY 811... Read More →

9th Region Week 1 Review: A little anti-climactic

By PP1 - 1. Covington Catholic (2-0): No real tests for the Colonels the first week of the season. They got in triple digits on opening night against Ludlow and won 67-52 Thursday against Lexington Catholic. They travel to Ft Thomas on Monday night for a showdown against the 2-0 Bluebirds. 2. Cooper (1-1): Cooper’s loss to Dunbar is surprising in that they only scored 46 points. They travel across the river Friday to take on Elder, prior to that they host, district opponent, Conner Tuesday night. 3. Newport (1-0): The Wildcats defeated Bishop Brossart to move up a slot this week. They... Read More →

By silo11 - 1st Region Boys Basketball Review Week 1 The 4 legit teams were a top the preseason rankings for Region 1 are all still undefeated. They have already impressed that they deserve to be among the top tier and maybe even the state. Both Paducah Tilghman and McCracken County opened eyes with their wins against perennial Region 2 opponents. That will change this week as they begin to play each other, so there will be at least one loss this week. 1. Mayfield – Coach Chris Guhy BGP #6 2018-19 record: 0-0 Week’s Record: 0-0 Mayfield hasn’t played a game yet this year. ... Read More →

7th Region Week 1 Review: More Questions Than Answers

By Smallhoops - The first week of Seventh Region action produced as many questions as answers. What should we make of Ballard’s one-sided loss to Scott County? How should Male, Seneca and Waggener be ranked vis-à-vis one another? And just how good are the undefeated Walden Wolverines? The upcoming week may again produce more questions than answers. But one question that will be answered is this: can the Waggener Wildcats gain their first ever win against the Ballard Bruins? We will see Tuesday night. TEAM RANKINGS 1. Trinity Shamrocks (2-0) David Johnson and Stan Turnier each had 19 points... Read More →

12th Region Week 1 Review: Seeking Clarity

By TDC - Seems that Week 1 took forever to get here, and after one week there are still many unanswered questions in the 12thRegion. A couple of key matchups in Week 2 should provide some clarity on this balanced and competitive region. Here is a look at the week 1 results, rankings, and upcoming match-ups: 1. Wayne County– Only one game in week 1, but Wayne justified their preseason #1 ranking as they won convincingly at Garrard County 85-50 after trailing early on. Tuesday’s game at Lincoln County should provide a good indication of where both teams stand. 2. Danville– The Admirals also only... Read More →

16th Region Week 1 Review

By Carson Palmer - In our preseason preview we predicted this region would see teams beating each other from top to bottom in the rankings. Week 1 did nothing to disprove that theory. As upsets and surprises occurred across the region. Look for these rankings to be volatile all season long. 1. ELLIOTT COUNTY (3-0) The Lions proved they are worthy of their region favorite status. They won their season opener over 15th region contender Paintsville in a double overtime affair. Korbin Spencer and Tanner Dickerson led the Lions to two more easy victories over East Carter and Lyon County, the latter in the... Read More →
