Lexington/Central KY Power Rankings 10-8-17

By All State Baseball - 1. 6A: ScottCounty (6-2): The Cardinals didn’t have a problem picking up another big win thispast week, defeating district opponent and newly opened school,Frederick Douglass 55-21. Scott County put up 566 total yards ofoffense. At this point, I don’t think theirs anyone in 6A that canstop their high powered offense. 2. 2A:Lexington Christian (7-0): The Eagles were off last week and will return to action this week, hosting Somerset. 3A Notebook: Counting Champions on One Hand

By gchs_uk9 - Among These Five Teams is the 2017 Class 3A State Champion It would take numerous hands to count the total state championships among the five best teams in Class 3A - 22 titles total. Two schools need two hands just to count their own rings. You will only need one hand, however, to count the number of potential state champions in Class 3A. With three weeks remaining in the regular season the 3A Notebook believes the 2017 state champion will come from the quintet of Belfry, Corbin, Boyle County, Elizabethtown, or Central. Unlike the last four seasons, when a Belfry championship was... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings Oct 8, 2017

By Bert - 1. Trinity (8-0) – Pretty much expected results last Friday against Eastern. Most likely same story this week against Seneca. Hopefully the backups get plenty of reps should they be needed in the playoffs. 2. St. Xavier (6-1) – St. X gets back to its winning ways with a convincing victory over Manual. This week's game versus Male should be an absolute battle and will be this week's game of the week. 3. Male (7-1) – Bryan Station didn't put up much of a fight for the Dogs. This week versus Male should be the game of the week across the state. 4. Pleasure Ridge Park (5-2) – The... Read More →

2A Game of the Week: #7 Newport Central Catholic vs. #11 Lloyd

By DevilMayCare - Hurdle, barrier, obstacle, obstruction, impediment. Those are all terms that the Lloyd Juggernauts might use to describe the Thoroughbreds of Newport Central Catholic over the years. There's probably a few other choice words they might use to describe the 'Breds, but they're likely not fit to print. The last time that the Juggs defeated NewCath, ‘Good Vibrations’ by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch was the #1 song on the Billboard music charts. Disney's animated 'Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’ were duking it out for box office supremacy. In other words, it was a long... Read More →

1A Game of the Week: 1A #3 Hazard at 1A #4 Paintsville

By Bac2369 - When thinking about this week's 1A Game of the Week, one word comes to mind, and that word is redemption. Redemption is the act of making up for. Paintsville is looking for redemption after the way last season ended, while Hazard is looking to show that they're still the top (Bull)dog in the eastern half of 1A. These two teams haven't met many times over the past 10 years. This years game will only be the fourth meeting since 2006. They played twice that year, back in the four class era. Hazard won both matchups by scores of 21-8 and 27-21 (in overtime). These teams met last year in the... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings Oct 5, 2017

By Bert - 1. Trinity (7-0) – Trinity continues its dominance by shutting out the number 2 team in the state, St. X 28-0. Next week's game versus Eastern could get ugly quick. 2. St. Xavier (5-1) – X will stay at number 2 despite the loss. At this point, no one in Louisville 6A would give Trinity a much better game. X versus H will determine if X stays at number 2. Next week is another rival in Manual which has struggled with St. X over the past few decades. 3. Male (6-1) – Great win for Male over a strong PRP. Next week is Bryan Station. 4. Pleasure Ridge Park (5-2) – While PRP has... Read More →

5A Notebook: (10/5): Can the Colonels complete the sweep?

By JDEaston - In general the top tier Class 5A teams had a great week with all but one team in the top ten getting a win or an open week to rest up for the final stretch of the regular season. Owensboro was the only top ten team to lose last week and their loss was to a very good Christian County team. Owensboro however has been in a free fall since the loss to Bowling Green a few weeks ago. The Red Devils are clinging on to their top ten ranking by the skin of their teeth and this week versus Marshall County is a must win. Covington Catholic has played another tough schedule this season and are coming... Read More →

1A Notebook 10/3 - Districts

By Voice of Reason - Teams are into district play now. Time to look at how things are expected to play out. Before we go there, let's do a quick review of last week's results. 1. Beechwood lost to 6A #6 Simon Kenton 14-22 - It was a valiant effort by the Tigers. They had two touchdowns called back by penalty and had a run into the end zone from the one yard line ruled a fumble. The Pioneers made the plays they needed to win and the Tigers came up short. 2. Kentucky Country Day had the week off. 3. Hazard beat #9 Pikeville 38-26 - This was a big win for Hazard. The Bulldogs win gives them the upper hand... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (10/3): A BANNER Game

By DragonFire - No game had more hype and more implications last week than #5 Rockcastle County at #2 Wayne County. As mentioned last week, the home team had won the last three meetings between these two teams, including a crucial 41-34 OT decision taken down by Rockcastle County a season ago. Wayne County simply wanted to defend their homefield and get a big win while, Rockcastle County entered licking their wounds from a 12-6 loss to Somerset the week before, and looking to get their offense back on track. It was the ground and pound of Rockcastle County against the aerial attack of Wayne County. The... Read More →

Lexington/Central KY Power Rankings 10-2-17

By All State Baseball - 1.6A: Scott County (5-2): The Cardinals continue dominating their opponents, this time it was Henry Clay’s turn at defeat as Scott County blew by the Blue Devils 57-28. The Cardinals had yet another 400+ total yardage game as they piled up 431 total yards of offense against Bryan Station. At this rate, no one in the state of KY might not be able to stop the high powered offense of Scott County. 2.2A: Lexington Christian (7-0): LCA’s winning streak continues up to 7 straight games. The Eagles defeated the Midldlebsoro Yellow Jackets 76-28 on Friday. Not only do they continue to win but... Read More →

By thsrocks - 6A Notebook 10/2: Two unbeatens remain #1 Trinity and #7 Simon Kenton are the only two undefeated in the Commonwealth’s largest football class. In 6A Poll threads for ranked teams last week, the BluegrassPreps voters were a perfect 5 for 5. The choices were #1 Trinity over #2 St. Xavier; #4 Male over #5 Pleasure Ridge Park; #8 Butler over #9 Manual; Cathedral (IN) over #7 Ryle; Campbell County over Mt. Healthy (OH). This brings the season total to 41 of 46 for 89.1%. The feature games this week include #4 St. Xavier at #9 Manual; #3 Scott County vs. #10 Douglass; #5 Pleasure Ridge... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (10/2)

By Ram - Class 1A Beechwood battled valiantly against a ranked Class 6A Simon Kenton, but the Tigers eventually fell. Despite the defeat the Tigers remain at the top of the rankings heading into a showdown with District foe Bellevue. Hazard got a little more than many expected from rival Pikeville but the Bulldogs came away with the huge District win, and look to essentially clinch the Title this week against upstart Phelps. Kentucky Country Day will have their own big clash as they travel to Louisville Holy Cross. The only undefeated team left in Class 1A is Ludlow, and the Panthers hope to keep... Read More →
