Louisville Area Power Rankings for 9-7-15

By Bert - 1) Trinity High School (3-0, defeated Lexington Lafayette 70-14) – Some felt Lafayette would give Trinity a decent game, Trinity put that thought away pretty quickly. Next week’s game will be billed as the game of the season state wide and Trinity takes on Male at Male. 2) Male High School (3-0, defeated Fairdale 64-6) – Male’s continues to show its case for being number one over Trinity. Will wait till next week’s game to finally answer that question. 3) St. Xavier High School (2-0, defeated Bowling Green 45-19) – X finally shakes the Purple monkey off its back and gets a convincing... Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 09/06/15

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2015 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 2 Edition - 09/06/15 Concerning the top story line for this week, I’ve decided to recognize a well-known BGP’er, who absolutely loved Prep football in the Western part of the state and lost his lengthy health battle in this past off-season (March 2015). However, I don’t want to slight Mr. Jayvon Quarles in doing so. Mr. Quarles was a recent respected player for his beloved Hopkinsville Tigers and the Players of the Week will now be known as the Jayvon Quarles Players of the Week. The game of the week will now be known as the... Read More →

Class 3A Football Wins, Losses, and Omens? (9/6)

By gchs_uk9 - Title Town Smack Down Boyle County cemented their place at the top of Class 3A with a 42-20 victory across town at Danville. The Admirals, coming off big wins over Larue County and Rockcastle County, were ranked #6 in Class 2A this week and were being hyped as a potential threat to knock off the Rebels. But Danville fell behind early and the game eventually saw a running clock before the Ads could push across two late scores. Boyle County (3-0) did most of their damage through the air, throwing for 414 yards and four touchdowns. The Rebel defense was their typical stout self on the... Read More →

Russell notches first win over Ironton since 1977

By DevilMayCare - Bell bottoms, Disco, Star Wars, the Son of Sam..... Ahh the memories. Actually, between you and me, I wasn't even born yet. The year was 1977. Russell's Ivan McGlone and Ironton's Bob Lutz were still young(ish) men, in the early stages of building great programs. The final score that year was 23-14 in favor of the Red Devils. It would be the last time Russell would defeat its cross river rival for 38 years. After '77, Ironton would win the next eleven in a row before the series went on hiatus beginning in 1993. The two schools renewed the series in 2009 with Ironton winning six in a... Read More →

Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 9-6-15

By ATLCat - 10. Raceland (1A, 2-1)- Storms forced the Rams to play Saturday but there was no slwoing down the raining of points against East Carter. Greenup County has been a pleasant surprise and should be a better test. 9. Russell (3A, 2-0)- The statement win of the week? Russell going to Ironton, OH and stealing one from the Mighty Tigers on Saturday night. The historic win came at a cost as the Devils are banged up entering a huge matchup this week. 8. Pikeville (1A, 2-1)- The next two teams flip flop as last week's GOTW lived up to the hype in an Overtime thriller. Pikeville learned the value... Read More →

Lexington / Central Kentucky Power Rankings 9-6-15 Sponsored by Jess-105.9

By Bluegrasscard - The Rankings 10) Garrard County (3A / 2 – 1) The Golden Lions post another win over Lincoln County 36 to 29. This #10 spot was between the Golden Lions and the Lexington Catholic Knights – who are in the same district with Boyle County and Western Hills. The nod went to Golden Lions with the better record. A 1-1 4A Rockcastle County team is next for Garrard County with East Jessamine following. 9) Danville (2A / 2 – 1) The Admirals lost to Boyle County this week in the big rivalry game. They still put up 20 points on the very defensive oriented Rebels – one more than... Read More →

Louisville Area Power Rankings 8-31-15

By Bert - 1) Trinity High School (2-0, defeated Brentwood Academy 31-13) – While not as convincing of a victory as the week before against Ensworth, still a solid victory over a traditional Tennessee power. The real test for who is #1 will be in two weeks against Male. Next week, Lafayette 2) Male High School (2-0, defeated Ballard 45-7) – Some will say after such a victory over a Louisville Area Top Ten would justify being #1 . They may be correct and in two weeks the Bulldogs will be able to prove that as they welcome the Shamrocks but for next week, Male has what many would believe is a stress... Read More →

Class 6A Football Weekly Roundup

By CoachBuckett - Another exciting week of 6A football. Many dominating performances individually and collectively across the state. Here is a look at how 6A is shaping up in the second week of the season. The Talk of 6A Trinity has to have the attention of everyone in class 6A. After back to back dominate performances by the Rocks, looks like they are ready to stake claim to number 24. The Trinity defense has been very impressive the first two weeks of the season as they have held their opponents to just 13 points. I know it’s only second game, but against these same two teams last year they gave up a... Read More →

Class 1A Football - Everything you need to know - 8-30-15

By Voice of Reason - The #1 ranked team in 1A finally made their debut this week. The Beechwood Tigers opened in style with a 48-22 win over the #7 team in 2A, Lloyd Juggernauts. Beechwood has a lot of new faces in the starting lineup but this game tells us the program rolls on. It was not an easy battle with the game even near the end of the first half. The Beechwood freshman Logan Castleman intercepted a pass and ran it in for a score. That was followed just a minute later with a 65 yard interception return for a TD by Beechwood standout Brett Slusher. Slusher went for 5 TD's on the night adding 3 receiving... Read More →

Class 4A Football Notebook for (8/30)

By DragonFire - This week was all about the top of the 4A rankings flexing their might. The top five teams won by an average of nearly 25 points, and by and large coming through without a challenge. This included Ashland opening their season with a strong 41-21 victory over Raceland, BluegrassPreps’ #2 team in 1A. It was the Quinton Baker show during that game, as Baker put up 248 yards on 18 carries, averaging a dominant 13.8 yards per carry while scoring four times, or roughly one score for every 4.5 times he toted the ball. Also opening their seasons were #1 Johnson Central and #8 Bourbon... Read More →

Class 2A Football Notes and Commentary (Week 2)

By ATLCat - Welcome Back Danville and the Title Town Rivalry Not since "The Walking Dead" has a better story of coming back from the dead reigned! Danville looked good in Week 0 and looked great in Week 1 by demolishing 4A Rockcastle County 46-18. The Ads have a nice mix of athletes and Defensive playmakers and a buzz is emanating. Up next is rival Boyle County who coincidentally also appears to be "up" and for the first time in several years all eyes will be on "Title Town" for the renewal of one of the State's iconic rivalries. NewCath's Offensive Offense Newport Central Catholic's schedule is no... Read More →
