"The right way"

By PurplePride92 - I see this said all of the time in regards to AAU but I don't know what it means. When someone says an AAU program "does things the right way" what does that mean to you? I feel like this has many different meanings to people and I feel like people throw shade at AAU programs that don't do things the way they think they should. I have all kinds of opinions on AAU and the whole structure of it and all of the different programs involved in it. At the end of the day, each family has to find a fit that is right for them and their kid. Sometimes even the kids don't know what the right fit is... Read More →

Defending Ball Screens

By JokersWild24 - Kind of a coaching philosophy question, but how do you do it if you have your way? Do you go over and only help off when absolutely necessary (my preference)? Do you hedge and show help, then let your guy fighting through the screen recover (I don't like it, because if he can't get through the screen, that says something about him defensively, but is it a necessary evil)? Do you switch, especially if the other team is quicker than you? If you switch, do you switch most everyone (unless it means an awful mismatch) or do you have rules on who you switch? If you have rules, what do... Read More →

Quention Goodin will be the player that leads the Cardinals. Qeuntin comes into the regional tournament averaging 21.7 PPG. 12th Region Tournament Preview

By SHS Future - 12th Region Tournament Preview The competition in this yearís 12th Region Tournament is the best I have seen in many years and matched by only a few other regions across the state. The two time defending 12th Region champions Wayne County Cardinals are vying for their 3rd straight trip to Rupp Arena but this will be the most difficult challenge they will have had to reach that goal. This is the best time of the year for basketball fans and the 12th Region Tournament begins Wednesday night. Here is a breakdown of the eight remaining teams that will be competing to cut down the nets a week... Read More →

11th Region Tournament Preview

By JokersWild24 - "Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown". That's been my theme for the 11th all year. Now we're down to 8, and we see why that's even more true. For one, district play eliminated the team who wore last year's crown, as Henry Clay defeated Scott County. It also eliminated a team that many had crowned the best in the region at one point in LCA. Finally, the weight of the crown as my Preseason #1 ranking was also apparently too heavy for Dunbar, who led most of the way against Lexington Catholic before faltering late. Whoever wears the crown now, whether it be district winners... Read More →

2015 10th Region Tournament Preview

By Randy Parker - 2015 10th Region Region Tournament Preview Mason County's historic Fieldhouse is again the site for the 10th Region Tournament. Aric Russell's Campbell County Camels claimed last year's crown and could very well cut the nets again, but judging by regular season standards, the favorite is host Mason County. The Royals largely plowed through the 10th Region from the season's outset until now, earning 15 wins and a big fat zilch in the loss department. Paris and Pendleton County enter as the most surprising District champions out of the 40th and 38th Districts, respectively. Harrison County... Read More →

Inside the 8th Region 3-1-15

By ColonelMike - The Region tournament is finally here, and six teams return from last year, with two newcomers. It will be hard to match the drama of the 2014 tournament, won by South Oldham. Last year's tourney featured six games decided by 8 or fewer points, and three of those went to overtime, including South's 60-57 win over Simon Kenton in the finals. Only Oldham County's 13 point win over Henry County in the first round had a double-digit margin - and even that game was no cakewalk for the victors. The 29th district has won the last four titles....and no team outside the "current" 29th and... Read More →

Faiview's Superintendent, Bill Musick Resigns, Again.

By Ram - The article appeared in The Independent, but is not available online currently. Fairview's Superintendent, Bill Musick resigned for the second time in less then two years. Fairview was fined and heavily penalized by the KHSAA for the playing of ineligible player(s) which forced the resignation of Head Coach Nathan McPeek and the demotion of High School Principal, AD and assistant coach Gary McPeek to elementary PE teacher (both left the state following the sanctions).
