24th District Tournament Preview (6th Region)

By GoHardITP - 24th at Mercy * Wednesday – Whitefield Academy (4) vs. Bullitt East (1), 6:00 Tyler Sharpe and the Bullitt East team has already defeated Whitefield once this season in early January by 33 points. There is not any way that Whitefield can close that gap, and BE has been playing much better of late. BE wins by 20 or more in this one. * Wednesday - Jeffersontown (3) vs. Fern Creek (2), 7:30 This is going to be a tough battle that likely goes down to the end. Senior Brandon Johnson for JTown will not go down in his last game of a great career without a fight. If he goes off for one... Read More →

22nd District Tournament Preview (6th Region)

By GoHardITP - 22nd at Western * Monday – Iroquois (5) vs. Butler (4), 6:30 Butler has struggled this season with 5 wins and 18 losses. They have lost 6 in a row to end the season, but their last win was against Iroquois which leaves them hope in this game. In fact, Iroquois has only won 6 games and lost 21 with a 9 game losing streak. Both teams are incredibly young and are a mirror image of each other. I predict the team that has been able to continue believing in their coaching staff during the string of losses will win this one. On that note I am going to predict Iroquois given that Coach... 21st District Tournament Preview (6th Region)

By GoHardITP - 21st at Pleasure Ridge Park * Monday – Beth Haven (5) vs. Valley (4), 7:30 Just looking at records one could assume that Beth Haven with 19 wins on the season should win this game against a 5 win Valley to advance to play PRP in the semi-finals. But that is discounting the fact that Valley did not back away from playing a much tougher schedule despite being very young with little returning talent. In fact, one of the Valley wins was a victory over Beth Haven early in the season by a wide margin. This is why I ignore the win/loss record for the most part and focus on who teams have... 43rd District Tournament Preview (11th Region)

By JokersWild24 - The toughest district in the State should have the most interesting regional tournament. Tates Creek hosts this year, and will face #4 Lafayette, who lost the third place tiebreaker to Dunbar, in the 4/5 game. The winner of that one goes on to play #1 Lexington Christian Academy. In the bottom bracket, a tantalizing matchup between #2 Lexington Catholic and #3 Dunbar will send one of the State's top 20 teams packing right away. One big question given all the cancellations is whether or not the privates will have a bit of a built in advantage given that they have presumably been able... Read More →

All 11th Region Regular Season Teams

By JokersWild24 - Teams mentioned in Guard, Forward, Center format with each position sorted alphabetically. Player of the Year: F - Matt Rose, Lexington Christian Academy I know there are some very deserving players, and feel as thought it's only right that this one goes to the senior in Rose. I give him the edge over Williams of Dunbar, Tisdale of Henry Clay, and Johnson of Lexington Catholic based both on his career, how he projects at the next level, and what he's accomplished this year in leading LCA to new heights. First Team: Read More →

02/18/15 – State Wrestling Tournament Postponed

By theguru - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 18, 2015 In the interest of the safety and welfare of our competitors, coaches, workers and officials, and to ensure that participation experience for the student-athletes is optimal, the KHSAA has postponed the State Wrestling Championships, originally scheduled for February 19-21, until March 9-11. “KHSAA State events are large-scale undertakings, and with the expansion of the State Tournament several years ago, we are very limited in options for holding the event,” said Commissioner Julian Tackett. “We absolutely have to be able to put down at least... Inside the 1st Region (2-17-15)

By Region 1 Basketball - Calloway is still #1. Paducah Tilghman moves up to #2 over Murray. Murray owns a win over the Tornadoes but that was in December. If they were to play today I would give the edge to PT. I think that PT might be the only team that can seriously challenge Calloway in the regional tournament. Murray is still playing good but not as well as they were. Graves is on a 4 game winning streak. The Eagles have developed depth this year and Andrew Smith has been a star. Ballard Memorial jumps up to the highest ranking all year to #5. They had a good win against Carlisle this past week. After the top 3... Read More →

Inside the 12th Region 2/17/15

By SHS Future - Inside the 12th Region 2/17/15 The final week of regular season high school basketball is this week and Mr. Winter shows he is not ready for this season to come to an end by bringing in more than a foot of snow in areas across the state. But, if any games are to be played there are a lot of good games this week in the 12th Region preparing teams for the post season. Boyle County travels to #18 Lafayette, Wayne County and Lincoln County play #9 Lexington Catholic, and West Jessamine plays #17 Paul Laurence Dunbar. A lot of games have already been canceled, but hopefully a few of these... Read More →

Inside the 9th Region (2-17-15)

By Walter - Two weeks ago there were two clear favorites for the 9th region crown. Less than a week away from the start of the post season and there might be 5 or 6 different teams with a legit chance at heading to Rupp Arena when the dust settles. Let's take a look back at this past week's action and the movement inside the top 10. 1. Newport Central Catholic (25-3) Why: The Breds have now won 14 consecutive games. Newcath 78 Bellevue 39 In what was expected to be a blowout, the Breds were led by Drew McDonald with 19 points, 15 rebounds and Ben Weyer with 14 points. Sophomore Trey Wurtz also... Read More →

By 15th Region - Overview: With the snow storms still letting us know winter is here, Week 11 in the 15th Region may turn out to be the last of the regular season. In Week 11 Johnson Central continued to roll over opponents as Kyle Gullett seems to be getting better and better, Sheldon Clark got some big performances from Dylan James and gutted out 2 wins without Chase Parsley, and Lawrence County and Paintsville took a few steps back as one lost a major player for the year with injury.
