By SHS Future - 2014-15 Kentucky High School Preview - 12th Region “Three-Peat” is the word everyone in Wayne County wants to be saying come Mid-March 2015. But, Three-Peat is a word heard very rarely in 12th region basketball when referring to region champions. As a matter of fact, the last team to be able to say the word “Three-Peat” was the 1960 Monticello Trojans after winning the region in 1958, 1959, and 1960. Well, the Cardinals want to once again be saying “Three-Peat” in Wayne County this year by matching their former cross town foes’ three consecutive 12th Region titles. But, to claim that... 2014-2015 Kentucky High School Basketball Preview - 4th Region

By DragonFire - Annually we open this first part of the 4th Region preview by waxing poetic about the dominance of the 14th District over the region. Last year everyone in Bowling Green loaded up and drove 45 minutes to Barren County High to watch Bowling Green knock off Warren Central in an all-14th District region final, the eight all-14th District final in the 13 straight seasons that district has won the title. Not that there weren’t strong teams outside of the district, but the Purples and Dragons went a combined 15-0 against the other three districts – dominance continued. But after watching a few... A very experienced backcourt trio of Ryan Callihan, Justin Braham, and Larry Whelan will lead this talented squad. The play of Justin Moore in the paint could be the key to a region title. Plus the advantage of the region at MSU right in their backyard. 2. Boyd County - The Lions have steadily improved under Coach Randy Anderson and this season could be their year. 2014-15 Kentucky High School Basketball Preview - 10th Region

By Randy Parker - 10TH REGION: OVERVIEW Campbell County turned back Montgomery County's attempt to repeat as Regional Champions in 2013-14. The Camels, who had to come from behind to defeat Scott just to qualify for the Regional Tournament, rode their three-headed monster of Corey Holbrook, Matt Wilson, and Dre Jackson to earn the 4th Sweet 16 trip in school history, and the first since 2001. One-third of the Camels' trio (Holbrook) has graduated, but Wilson and Jackson return as the 10th's top 2 players. Throw in 2 other returning starters and a handful of key reserves, and it's easy to see... Read More →

1A Playoff Preview - Could there be a Beast from the East?

By theguru - Region 1 Mayfield. Enough said? The Cardinals have dominated this region in the 6 class era and it doesn't look any different this year. There was some early season growing pains as they replaced a number of key players including their QB. But it looks like all is well in Mayfield after the Cardinals rolled over top undefeated 2A #2 ranked Caldwell Co. in the season finale. Mayfield features an up and coming sophomore at RB, Trajon Bright. He has made some jaw dropping runs this year. The Cardinals always play great defense and that looks true this year. The bottom half of the bracket... Read More →

3A Playoff Preview - Spartans or Pirates?

By theguru - Region 1 Is this the year South Warren finally breaks through to the Final Four? The Spartans have been regional runners-up the last two seasons, losing to Monroe County in 2012 and suffering a controversial loss to Paducah Tilghman on a late safety in 2013. South Warren is outscoring their opponents by an average of 40-9 and has only played one game decided under twenty points. The biggest question many have in regard to South Warren (10-0) is schedule strength. District 2 was expected to produce a challenger in Monroe County, but the Falcons fell flat, finishing fourth in the... Read More →

5A Playoff Preview - One-eyed One-Horned Flying Purple Dynasty

By theguru - Region 1 For the fourth year in a row, the Region 1 Championship, and the State Championship, will be Bowling Green’s. Some teams may have been caught celebrating when the Purples’ massive winning streak was stopped at 48, but all Kentucky teams should realized that was a one point loss to a great out-of-state team and even thought The Streak ended, Bowling Green still hasn’t lost to a “Kentucky Team” since 2010. The streak against in-state competition will not end in the playoffs this year. The Purples will win five more games this season and forget about their one blemish on the season. ... Read More →

2A Playoff Preview - All Private School Final Four?

By theguru - Region 1 Last year everyone expected Caldwell County to come out of region 1. They had rolled through the regular season undefeated and beat their toughest competitor Murray 42-13. 4A Playoff Preview - Gonna party like it's 1999?

By theguru - Region 1 Year after year, the only thing that has seemed certain in 4A Region 1 was that the team that won last year wouldn't win the next. Since the advent of the six class system it hasn't happened a single time. Seven years, six different champions, none winning back to back. In fact, you have to go back to Hopkinsville's 1999 & 2000 teams in the old AAAA to find the last time it happened. But it would appear this is the year that streak ends. Owensboro got back on the board last year, winning their first region title since 2007 and just their second one since 2001, which qualifies... Read More →
