Bluegrasspreps' Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings (Week 1)

By ATLCat - 10. Pikeville (1A, 1-0)- Panthers had questions entering their opener with 2A Prestonsburg but quickly answered all of them. Pikeville gets another quality game against 5A Letcher Central in the Pike County Bowl. 9. Raceland (1A, 1-0)- Rams were not in the form expected of them against a 3A West Carter team that has tempered expectations around them.Rams can quickly make a statement this week with rival Ashland. 8. Russell (3A, 0-0)- Devils were idle but hopes are extremely high after a very impressive scrimmage slate. County rival 4A Greenup County should be a favorable draw. 7. Bell... Read More →

Lexington/CKY Power Rankings (Week 1) Sponsored by Jess-105.9 Central KY

By Bluegrasscard - Lexington / Central Kentucky Top 10 Power Rankings - Week 0 The first week of play always adds clarity to any ranking and such was the case here. In the Game of the Week Boyle County showed it can hang with and beat the big bruisers from 6A with a 21 - 18 win over Central Hardin. Lafayette and Scott County were both winners in their opening games with the Generals downing local rival Paul Lawrance Dunbar. Scott County put a licking on Tates Creek 46 to 6. Henry Clay was idle. To round out the top half of the top ten - Lexington Catholic cruised by Boone County, 51 to 13. ... Read More →

What to Watch in Class 3A (Week 0)

By gchs_uk9 - Big Time Week Zero Matchups Three of the preseason top five teams will take on ranked opponents from Class 6A on opening weekend. #3 Boyle County will face 6A #9 Central Hardin at the Fort Harrod Bowl at Mercer County. Both programs are in year two with terrific head coaches and both are looking to advance beyond last year's regional runner-up showings. This game has been one of the most discussed on BGP all summer and has all the makings of a barn-burner. In the Derby City, last season's state runner-up Central will travel to historic Manual Stadium to face the Manual Crimsons in... Read More →

Johnson Central to Play Oscar Smith (VA)

By ATLCat - **Not to steal the thunder from Tony Cavalier in the Johnson Central 2015 thread, but this probably deserves it's own thread.** Much has been made of Johnson Central and their non-district foes from out of the State. From Canadian teams to home schooled teams to teams from the inner-city of Philadelphia, Coach Matney has tried to fill a 10 game slate by "any means necessary" drawing ire and criticism along the way. With the clock ticking down until the beginning of the 2015 season and still short a game, Johnson Central took a swing for the fences and will raise eyebrows once again with... Read More →

Class 5A Games to Watch (8/21)

By Ram - There are some interesting games to take note of in Class 5A in the first week of the season. They are not for bragging rights, for the most part, or for District Championships, but they are going to tell a lot of people about what some teams are going to do this year. #1 Highlands at 6A Cooper Some think Highlands may be closer to the pack then normal and may smell some blood in the water. Cooper has done a lot in their short time in existence. These two teams have never met and this meeting should be interesting. Cooper coming off a 9-5 season that ended at the hands of the eventual... Read More →

1A Notes for Week 0

By Voice of Reason - Looking ahead to Friday night lights 2015 style in 1A, we have discussed some nice matchups for our top 10 teams in the prediction threads. One of the games that seems to be drawing the most interest is #2 Raceland vs. 3A West Carter. It has been interesting seeing that some people seem to think that could actually be an upset win by West Carter. That would be a heck of an upset considering Raceland is considered the team to beat in 1A by some and West Carter hasn't had a winning record since, well, someone fill in that blank for me. There are several top ten ranked teams facing... Read More →

What To Watch In Class 2A (Week 0)

By ATLCat - DeSales and Mayfield Impress Scrimmages have to be taken in small doses when setting expectations, but both the #1 and the #2 ranked teams in the AA Rankings made outstanding first impressions in their scrimmage debuts. Mayfield defeated Tennessee AAA Power Milan 21-15 in a live scrimmage. Milan is expected to be one of the Top 5 teams in their class and returned the farm from a State Semi-Finalist team from 2014. DeSales pounced all over 6A Meade County and thoroughly dominated the Green Wave in all facets. Meade was hit heavy by graduation and have tempered... Read More →

Russell muscles their way to, 42-6 win over Rowan County (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - NO ROSTERS SO I HAD TO GO WITH NUMBER ONLY One knew going into this live scrimmage Rowan was up against an area monster and it was going to take a near perfect performance to have a shot. Russell struck early and often ending any hopes the Vikings had to win or even to keep this one close. All throughout this one it was apparent the Vikings run offense was not going to be effective enough to keep this one in this but that did not stop their offense from working on that part of the game nor did it appear they ever quit. Now to the game. The Rowan defense would show it was not... Read More →

Fleming County has just enough passing to defeat Nicholas County, 21-8 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - When this one was said and done two touchdown passes by Clayton Browning(6-181)would be the difference on the scoreboard. Browning overall did not have a great night. Unofficially I had him 7-17 with two 2TD passes and 2 INT'S. The one thing he showed in this one was if his line gives him the time to throw he can be very dangerous. I think the Bret Farve in him will have to have the reins pulled on hard to keep the picks down. When, if he hasn't already learn that it is better to throw the ball away or run it then he is going to cause major problems for a lot of secondaries. Again this is my... Read More →

Bath County uses field goal to defeat East Carter, 3-0 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - The games first big played took place, with 10:45 seconds left in the opening half. Kane Phillips(5-8-150)made a nice play on a pass thrown by Brody Donaldson(5-10-150)and picked it off. He made a nice run back but a flag negated that part of the play. With 9:58 left in the quarter East Carter had a long touchdown called back. Penalties on the East Carter offense would be a theme through this live scrimmage. I am guessing coach Champlin will address this multiple times in practice this coming week. The Bath defense got a sack on East Carter QB, Taylor Hicks(6-0-175)when Layne... Read More →

Unexpected people in unexpected places

By Jim Schue - I get this a lot, and while I'm great at remembering faces (names not so much), if I see a person in a place where I don't expect them, I get really, really thrown off. Three recent incidents: On Saturday while working at the bar, this guy came in whose face I definitely knew, but hadn't seen him for a long, long time. He was feeling the same thing, and asked my name before I could introduce myself. Turned out it was the eldest son of a gal I used to work with my two summers at Big Bone Lick SP. She was a teacher in her regular life, but she worked at the park in recreation one... Read More → 2015 Pre-Season Football Rankings

By theguru - There is excitement in the air with Mayfield moving up in class. And Beechwood, historically a Class 1A contender, find themselves in the #1 spot to begin the 2015 season. Will the Tigers finally deliver? The Raceland Rams follow at #2 with Paintsville nipping at their heals at #3 . Paintsville must be anxious for a rematch of the 2014 playoff round 3 game, which Raceland won. Throw Pikeville in the mix at #5 and the east looks strong. Defending 2A 2014 State Champions, DeSales rank #2 in the 2015 pre-season rankings. Mayfiield, the 2014 Defending 1A Champion moves up in class and takes... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Class 6A Pre-Season Preview

By Ram - Bluegrasspreps' Class 6A Pre-Season Preview The question everyone asks every year when we begin to discuss Kentucky Football’s largest classification: Is anyone going to challenge the Trinity Shamrocks? Last season it looked like Trinity was on the ropes and Jefferson County public schools would stake claim to the title with the Male Bulldogs knocking off the Shamrocks in the regular season. Male’s claim to the top spot didn’t last long as Trinity claimed their 23rd State Title. One thing we will have fun doing over the next 5 months is discussing many topics: Lafayette’s talented... Bluegrasspeps' Class 5A Pre-Season Preview

By Ram - Bluegrasspreps’ Class 5A Pre-Season Preview For the last several years, Class 5A was dominated by Bowling Green. This year Class 5A got a whole lot more interesting with two teams that won State Championships in 2014 and one that had won three in the last four years and had a great run 49 consecutive wins end a year ago. What does 2015 hold for Class 5A? There’s a chance a regular State Champion will dominate, but which one? Two dominate teams from last season will be disappointed. Which ones? The Top 10 1. Highlands (13-2; 4A State Champions) There are two people in Fort Thomas... Read More →
