Pike Central 35 Shelby Valley 10

By newarkcatholicfan - I am using the numbers given in the program, be forewarned that two Shelby Valley said the numbers and players names did not match up with the rosters they had. I was also told that the Wildcats were severely beaten up by the injury bug, making this one to be a tough one for Wildcats to stay in for long. Now to the game. #32 Austin Mullins picked up fifteen yards before being hit and tackled by #3 Mason Layne, giving the Hawks a first down just ten minutes into the game. The offense would sputter soon after this and be forced to punt the ball away. The Wildcats would get a... Read More →

Pikeville 30 Letcher County 6

By newarkcatholicfan - The crowd was large but the noise level at times was very library like. Even with the home team the heavy favorite and playing well enough, to show everyone the game was not going to be in doubt for long. Maybe the home crowd knew this was going to be a win and in the 90 plus degree heat, they wanted to save their energy. The Panthers methodically started a drive that would end up going for 17 plays and a total 78 yards to post its first score of the 2016 tackle football season. The drive started with a pass play and then one running play before two straight passes. It would have a fourth... Read More →

Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 08/28/16

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2016 Western Kentucky Power Rankings “ Week 1 Edition" The top story line this week REMAINS the Weather, as lightning, heavy rain and heat indices forced significant delay, push backs and flat out cancellations across our half of the state and beyond. I suppose it is just that time of year that Mother Nature reminds us who is in control on certain nights. But a big shout out to all those (players, coaches, refs, concession stand workers, parents, and just great fans) who braved the weather and still brought you the news as it happened in the West! AROUND THE STATE: ... Read More →

Belfry 48 Tates Creek 12

By newarkcatholicfan - Tates Creek came to Belfry having to know how good everyone said the Pirates could be. Well if they had any doubt about this they found out in just a little over a minute just how good Belfry was. The Pirates forced a Commodores punt after three offensive plays, and on the return the Pirates got a 73-yard touchdown by, #1- Cameron Catron, with 10:32 left on the clock. The point after kick by #26 Austin Woolum made it a,7-0 game. For all intents and purposes this game was over. On the ensuing kickoff #12 Langston Love fielded the kick and was flipped upside down by #20 Chase Dove, on a... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 8-28

By ATLCat - 1. Belfry Pirates (3A, 1-0)- The Pirates looked the part of the #1 team by ambushing 6A Tates Creek. This week the Pirates will take on a much improved Harlan County squad. 2. Johnson Central Golden Eagles (4A, 1-0)- It was a proud week for EKY teams and none had a more symbolic win than Johnson Central taking out the #2 team from the Mountain State. The Eagles return to Bluegrass action with a solid Lexington Catholic team. 3. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 2-0)- Corbin rose to the challenge against fellow 3A Powerhouse Central and held on to a narrow win. Clay County is next and the starters... Read More →

3A Notebook: Corbin Fends off Central, Strengthens Hold on #2 Ranking

By gchs_uk9 - Redhounds send Jackets over the edge in Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic In a rematch of 2014's classic regional final, Corbin scored on its first two possessions of the game and again in the final minute to claim the biggest win for a 3A school to date in 2016. Corbin quarterback Cameron Sizemore hit AJ Moore with a 19-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring and a second touchdown pass from Sizemore to Moore, this time on 4th Down, gave Corbin (2-0) a 14-0 lead with three minutes to play in the first quarter. Central's strong running game hit pay dirt twice in the second quarter... Read More →

East Ridge 38 Phelps 18

By newarkcatholicfan - Not often do I get to see one player dominate a game the way I did in this one. Don't get me wrong, I understand without the great play of the offensive line, the 393 yards, 5 touchdowns that #3 Brodey Johnson ran for, would not have taken place. But it was fun from this fan's eyes to watch the young man do his thing on the field. Phelps was forced into a punting situation with 9:27 left in the opening frame, but a horrible snap led to the punter trying to complete a pass that was incomplete. This would set the stage for how most of the rest of the day would go for the Hornets. Just... Read More →

Trinity – It took three and a half quarters but then the Trinity offense got going. I think once Trinity got that first TD, most watching the game felt very, very good about Trinity’s chances. While not a stellar performance like last year, Trinity will remain number one. Next week Trinity will face a stronger Tennessee opponent in Brentwood Academy this time at home. This game will give some indication as to whether this Trinity team is as... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (8/22): Top Ten Takes A Hit

By DragonFire - The BGP Preseason 4A top ten took a pretty sizable hit in the opening week when looking at the surface. Nine teams were in action, and only three of those won. Of those that won, two of them were at a significant advantage over their opponents, with #1 South Warren obliterating 2A Monroe County by a 56-14 score, and #5 Franklin-Simpson whitewashing Portland (TN) by a 46-0 margin. Neither was a surprise to be a blowout, although it was slightly notable that Monroe County notched a first quarter score against the new South Warren defense. But it was the Spartan offense that rolled, as Ryder... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Football Rankings (8/22)

By Ram - With the excitement of Week 0 and the anticipation of a new season upon us, we were not left disappointed by an exciting slate of early season games. Though it is hard to project a State Champion based off such an early season result, some of the usual suspects such as Trinity, Bowling Green, Mayfield, and South Warren all set the tone with impressive victories. As we turn toward Week 1 another slate of Bowl Games and Cross-Class battles will once again highlight the festivities, but we will also see some Intra-Class matchups specifically featuring some of the best 1A and 3A, and 5A teams. ... 1A Notebook - As Predicted

By Voice of Reason - As Predicted The first week of games in 1A made the BGP preseason rankings look good. All the top 10 ranked teams won their openers except number 10 Campbellsville. Even with some of those taking on schools in higher classes, the ranked 1A teams proved they are worthy. Pikeville opened the defense of their title in impressive fashion with a 47-14 win over 2A Prestonsburg. Second ranked Russellville was not to be outdone. The western Kentucky Panthers rolled over 3A Trigg County with a 41-0 shutout. These two schools came out in their openers and proved they are at the top of the heap... Read More →
