1st Region Preview

By silo11 - Region 1 teams surprised many people in the sweet sixteen the past few years, Calloway County in 2015 and Murray in 2016. This year there are a couple teams that truly believe they make a bang at the Sweet Sixteen in 2017 as well. Region 1 was hit hard by graduation this offseason. 18 of the top 30 scorers in the region were seniors and have moved on. Some of the best teams last year were hit particularly hard and will have a much more difficult time repeating last year’s success, while some of the teams that were mediocre the past few years have a chance to compete at the top of the... 2016/2017 8th Region Season Preview

By 8th Region Warrior - 2016-17 Kentucky High School Basketball Preview - 8th Region Second year of pre-viewing the 8th region, a region that is an absolute blast to cover. The 8th region has tons of history, great coaches, and some of the most competitive districts in the state of Kentucky. It does have a lot of small schools as compared to other regions, but it is one of the main reasons I like covering the region. When you mix in the new faces that this region will boast, anything can happen as we all know. Please keep in mind this is a PRE-season list and can change as the year goes on. After all the... 2016/2017 11th Region Season Preview

By mooremiller31 - The new basketball season is vastly approaching and as always should be a fun and exciting season, especially in the always tough 11th Region. This region has produced a team that has reached the finals of the state tournament 4 of the past 5 seasons and 2 state champions in the past 4 years. Don't be surprised if that is once again the case this season. While the region will not be as competitive from top to bottom as last season, still a lot of talented teams this year. TEAM RANKINGS 1. Scott County The Cardinals return all but one key player from last season's regional runner up... Read More →

Lots of changes have took place over the summer in the 14th region from coaches leaving to players leaving. Perry County Central is the favorite but the region is wide open, more open then it’s been in recent memory. Here’s the rundown of the 14th Region Season Preview; 1. Perry County Central (25-5): The Commodores were destin to win the 14thregion crown last season but was knocked off in the championship game by Buckhorn 54-51. Perry County Central... Read More →

A Call to Cherish: Belfry Fans Last Chance To Witness Greatness

By ATLCat - “We shall have no better conditions in the future if we are satisfied with all those which we have at present.”– Thomas Edison The term "spoiled" is often over used and a bit harsh off the tongue. Connotations of the word bring forward temper tantrum prone toddlers and negative emotions associated with people who disregard value. As such, it is not fair to use the word "spoiled" when describing the Belfry fan base. The Pond Creek Nation remains one of the most devout fan bases in the State of Kentucky and often travel better than most any other school, their support does not waver. Yet, as... Read More →

3A Notebook: The Rankings Were Right

By gchs_uk9 - There has been a good deal of discussion this week regarding the correctness of polling. gave Hillary Clinton a 71.4% chance at winning the presidency only to see Donald Trump win with a sizable number of electoral votes. Many have argued that proves polling untrustworthy, while also avoiding the fact that if there is a 71% chance something will happen, then there is a 29% chance that it won't. No matter your views on politics, one area where ranking and polling was 100% in the Bluegrasspreps' Class 3A Rankings. With the playoff competitors winnowed to the final... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 11/12- Now We Get Serious

By ATLCat - Region I In Review It takes more than one man to beat Mayfield, for Butler County this could never be more clear as for the second consecutive season Butler County saw their season end in lopsided fashion at the hands of the Cardinals. Rex Henderson's unbelievable career comes to a close, but the Cardinals move on. Murray is not used to losing seasons and tried their best to salvage a disappointing year with a First Round win over McLean County. The Tigers though could not parlay that into any further momentum as Owensboro Catholic held serve 47-13. Owensboro Catholic had fallen to Murray... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (11/9/2016)

By JDEaston - In general the first week of the playoffs in Kentucky is relatively uneventful, this year was no exception in class 5A as all teams that were expected to win did just that. Pulaski County had a much closer game than expected, but survived a scare from Harlan County. Round two of the playoffs will be much different however, with several interesting matchups on hand. Region 1 This region has a handful of the best teams in the class and it showed in the opening round as the higher seeded teams all won their first round games in convincing fashion. The region one favorites outscored their... Read More →

1A Notebook - Playoffs Round 1 Crystal Ball, Crystal Clear

By Voice of Reason - The BGP crystal ball was crystal clear in its look at round 1 of the playoffs. In last week's playoff preview, not only were all games predicted accurately - the margin of victories and upsets predicted were on target as well. Let's look region by region at last week and then see if the crystal ball can work it's magic again this week. Region 1 There were no tough games to pick in this region. All first round games were expected to be lopsided wins and so they were. Region 1 favorite Russellville rolled through winless Caverna; #2 seed in the bracket Campbellsville had no problems with... Class 2A Notebook 11/7- Familiar Faces, Different Places

By ATLCat - Region I Most expected 1 seeds Mayfield and OCath to roll and they did just that. Region 1 though was one of the better regions for potential 2 vs. 3 matchups. Butler County need a Herculean effort from their MVP Rex Henderson to out duel a very game Ballard Memorial squad. Henderson ran for 317 and passed for 146 more and accounted for 6 TD's in the Bears 54-28 victory. Murray was viewed as a slight underdog by some entering their match-up with a previous 7-3 McLean County squad. The Tigers have struggled on Defense all season, but have found an Offensive cohesion in recent weeks and... Read More →

A Totally Reasonable Playoff Proposal

By gchs_uk9 - A few weeks back in another thread I posted an idea for a new playoff proposal. Modeled after a version used by the state of Illinois, this plan is something of a hodge-podge of suggestions from various sources along with some new ideas not previously seen on BGP. This thread is designed to present the plan in what is hopefully a simple, easy to understand method. To start, there are three things that are paramount when attempting to understand the plan: 1. The idea of districts and regions as you have previously known them will no longer exist. Districts and regions will exist in a... Read More →

3A Notebook: Home is Where the Heart is in Round One

By gchs_uk9 - Week One of the postseason saw very little in the way of surprises as all but one home team picked up first round victories and only one game had a marginally surprising result. The second round slate gets a bit tougher with at least four games that could be won be either team, including two matchups of top ten teams. Bottom line, it should be an exciting week of 3A playoff football. Region I All four top seeds advanced to the second round, two with ease and two with at least some discomfort. #9 Elizabethtown coasted to a 49-0 win over Fort Campbell and will now prepare to host...
