Trinity (9-0) – Nothing surprising in Trinity’s 58-0 win over Seneca. Next week is bitter rival Ballard. Should be a better matchup but Trinity will clearly be the favorite 2. St. Xavier (6-2) – After bad losses to Bowling Green and Trinity, The Tigers righted the ship with a solid victory over Manual and a huge win over Male. X has momentum on their side as leap frog Male’s #2 spot and they take on Butler this Friday 3. – Male... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (10/18/16) District Champions

By JDEaston - Last week in Class 5A there were no top ten matchups. As well, all of the top ten teams did as expected and posted wins. Even though last week wasn’t full of excitement and upsets, there are still some scores and games to take note of, particularly South Laurel’s near upset of Pulaski County. This coming week will be much different however, as 6 of the top ten teams face off against each other, with each of those games deciding district championships. More on this week’s games later in the article. Last Week’s games As mentioned in the first paragraph, Pulaski County was nearly upset... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (10/17): District Breakdown

By DragonFire - As we enter the last week of district play, there is plenty still to shake out. Three district races have had their top seed decided (District 1 – Hopkinsville, District 2 – Franklin-Simpson, District 5 – East Jessamine), three more we’re tentatively confident in who is going to take the crown, and two have real unknown outcomes. But even among those two, one stands out. It’s been a long time since the sun has shined on Harrison County’s football program. Just last season, they snapped a 15 game losing streak. Their last winning season was in 2007, when they made a surprise run to the... Read More →

1A Notebook 10/17 - SHOWDOWN!

By Voice of Reason - The game of the year in 1A takes place this Friday. We will get to that later in the article. First let's look back at last week and then to this week's key district games. Last Week in 1A As district play rolls on, there weren't many significant games last week. Every team in the top 10 that played last week took care of business. The only one of those top 10 games that was even within a couple touchdowns was new #10 Williamsburg defeating Pineville 26-19. Every other top 10 team won by 4 touchdowns or more. That win earned Williamsburg the district 7 title. Even if Williamsburg loses... Read More →

Bluegrassprep's Football Rankings (10/17)

By Ram - Class 1A A light schedule last week saw no ranked team challenged by another foe with a number out to their left. The week's action was highlighted by Williamsburg taking control of the driver's seat in District 7 by taking care of Pineville on the road. Bishop Brossart also improved their stock and cemented themselves as a Dark Horse type of contender by taking care of Paris. Where last week lacked in having that truly marquee match-up, this week brings potentially the biggest regular season game of the year in Class 1A. Paintsville and Raceland will clash in a game certain to have the... Read More →

3A Notebook: Started From the Bottom Now We're Here

By gchs_uk9 - Lexington Catholic and Central Starting to Look Like State Finalists On Friday, September 23, Lexington Catholic was about to lose their fifth consecutive game and Central was wrapping up their first win after starting the season with four straight losses. Considered by many to be the two biggest favorites from the western half of Class 3A (BGP had LexCath #3 and Central #6 in the preseason), now there was speculation about what was wrong. A cursory glance at the schedules would show that of the nine losses suffered between the two teams, eight were to ranked teams and another to a team... Read More →

1A Notebook 10/11 - Top Players

By Voice of Reason - In week 7, district play was in full swing and 3 of the top 5 in the rankings had their open week. That made for a slow week in 1A but there were two upsets to note. First, Kentucky Country Day made a big statement with a 34-0 shutout win over Louisville Holy Cross. Even though both teams entered the game with 4-2 records, Holy Cross was the 10-14 point favorite based on a higher strength of schedule. Country Day made some adjustments on both sides of the ball and showed Holy Cross different looks than what they planned for. That caught Holy Cross off guard and Country Day jumped to a... Class 5A Notebook (10/11/16) Upset Alert!

By JDEaston - While two of the top three teams in the top ten tried to track down the illusive “OPEN” and force them to play, Bowling Green and Greenwood were both unsuccessful in those endeavors. For Bowling Green it was the first week since the start of the season that they did not post a W in the win/loss column. The rest of the top 10-15 teams in class 5A took care of business last week, with every team with the exception of Highlands all posting wins with a margin of victory of 20 points or more. Former number ten Highlands traveled to Dixie Heights on Friday in what was predicted to be the game of... Read More →

Trinity (8-0) – The game against Eastern wasn’t much as expected. Next week against Seneca won’t be much better. 2. Male (6-1) – Male had the week off but still stays at #2. This weekend will be the featured game of the week versus St. Xavier. As mentioned last week, X and Male somewhat look at each other as their runner up archrivals. The emotion going into this game will come second only to the quality of these two teams. 3. St.... Read More →

Bluegrassprep's Football Rankings (10/10)

By Ram - Class 1A The game that raised the eyebrows of most pundits over the weekend was Kentucky Country Day's surprising lopsided victory over District foe Louisville Holy Cross. In other action of note Paintsville easily handled Fairview strengthening their standing in the Class 1A pecking order. This week there will be no match-ups between ranked foes, but a pair of critical District games will highlight the docket. Bishop Brossart is suddenly surging and will square up a Paris team that nearly handed Nicholas County their first loss. In Southern Kentucky, Williamsburg will get a firm test from... Read More →
