By Bert - Thanks to our Sponsor WBKI TV Louisville The CW. Get in the game with Game On WBKI Saturdays @ 8p. Tv station: WBKI TV Twitter: @ItsGame_On 57984 1. Trinity – (4-0) The Rocks pulled off a close one against #2 Male and hold on to the top spot. The Bulldogs coaching staff did their homework scouting Trinity noting the rocks susceptibility in the long pass and capitalized on this with four long TD passes. However, the Rocks came from behind and took the lead late in the fourth quarter for the win. Next week the Rocks visit unbeaten PRP. 2. Male – (3-1) The Bulldogs lost but it was a... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (9/13): The Once and Future #1

By DragonFire - A year ago, Johnson Central was our preseason #1 team, and held that position for the first nine weeks. For nine weeks we had them pegged as the class favorites – then came Belfry. That made clear a truth that we had long denied, that South was the clear class of 4A, and then they backed it up in the state title game. But that was last year. This year, Johnson Central is on a similar, but even more impressive track. After opening with a victory over Capital High, the #2 ranked team in West Virginia, they doubled up Lexington Catholic 54-7, before notching another out of state victory... Read More →

5A Notebook Week 4 (9/12/16)

By JDEaston - There was only one matchup between 5A top ten teams this past week, as Bowling Green traveled to Owensboro to face the former 5A #2 Red Devils. This one ended in another lopsided win in favor of the Purples. The rest of the 5A top ten headed outside of their class to face off against the rest of the state. In general, the rest of the class had a pretty good weekend, with only Greenwood and Highlands taking losses, which were to ranked teams as well. This week should be interesting as well, as 6 of the 5A top ten teams take on ranked teams from several other classes throughout the state. It... Read More →

Bluegrassprep's Football Rankings (9/12)

By Ram - The Class 1A has taken shape and the majority of the names are familiar. You will see little movement in the Top 5 after all the teams held serve this week with victories. The back half of the Top 5 is a different story all together and has been a revolving door of teams. Hazard still remains at the #6 spot despite a loss, while both Holy Cross and Fairview hold on to the Top 10 despite also tasting defeat. This week expect those Top 5 teams to be put to the test with Beechwood, Raceland, and Pikeville drawing very difficult opponents. Class 1A 1. Russellville at 2A Todd County Central... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 9/12- Thoughts Following "Seperation Friday"

By ATLCat - It is no secret at this point that Class 2A appears to be one of the State's Strongest classifications pound per pound this season. The early season success of the class playing up against larger class schools has been well documented and as Non-District play begins to wear down we continue to see the prowess of the class shine through. This past week though finally began to give us clarity in terms of how the pecking order of this class appears. The Champs Look Like the Champs For all of Class 2A's successes on the early season "playing up" the one thing that they had not been able to... Read More →

BluegrassPreps - Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 09/11/16

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2016 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 3 Edition Concerning the top story line for this week, it is that time in the season where I admit I am pretty dog-gone long-winded on these rankings and I realize folks have very busy lives and don’t have time every week to get through all the items listed in this thread, so we’ll audible formations into a “Popcorn N Coke Version” and “Meat & Potato’s Version” so you can get what you want and move on in the time available to you. Popcorn N Coke Top 10 Version – Week 3: 1. Bowling Green 5A (4-0): Win 47-0 vs 5A Owensboro... Read More →

3A Notebook: Belfry, Corbin Take Show on the Road with Splendid Results

By gchs_uk9 - Belfry and Corbin Get Resounding Road Wins over Ranked Opponents In a week that saw seven of Bluegrasspreps' Top Ten 3A schools play on the road, Belfry and Corbin, ranked first and second respectively in class, picked up the biggest wins. Belfry, winners of twelve straight dating to last season, went to perennial northern Kentucky and Class 2A powerhouse Newport Central Catholic and won 41-8. As might be expected after a nearly four hour bus ride, the Pirates were slowed somewhat out of the gate and only led 14-0 at halftime. The second half, though, started with a kickoff return for a... 1A Notebook 9/5 - Deja Vu?

By Voice of Reason - The top ranked Pikeville Panthers are hoping history repeats itself. After being upset by their rival, #5 ranked Paintsville Tigers 40-28, Pikeville wants to see the results flipped in the playoffs as they have been the previous two years. In 2014, Pikeville won the regular season game but was defeated in the playoffs by Paintsville. In 2015, Paintsville won the regular season matchup but lost in the playoffs. With this regular season defeat, Pikeville would sure like to see the same pattern happen and the regular season loser get revenge in the playoffs. In this 2016 regular season... Read More →

Who wants Two?

By JDEaston - If there was any doubt, Bowling Green solidified themselves as the team to beat with a convincing win over St. Xavier. The real question is who is #2? Fern Creek, Christian County and Owensboro have all had their chance to prove that they are the second best team in the class. Owensboro being the most recent team to falter after receiving the #2 ranking, lost to rival Owensboro Catholic, which to be honest was a bit of a shocker. Christian County has worked their way back into the top spot for other teams not named Bowling Green for the time being, but Covington Catholic and Greenwood are... Read More →

Lessons from Labor Day football practice

By ChiefSmoke - Friday night before our game with Anderson County got started, Todd Thompson, a former HS teammate, came by to say hello. It was great to see him and I appreciated him making the effort. It got me to thinking about Labor Days from the past and why football is a great game. Labor Day in 1981, Coach French rolls in just in time for practice, pulling his boat behind his truck. Our starting QB is Todd and he has hurt his ankle and unable to practice. As the backup, I get snaps with the first team offense. That night, we practiced full gear in a driving rain storm. My football pants are... Read More →
