Class 4A Football Notebook (10/20): The Week We've Waited For

By DragonFire - The week that was is not quite as exciting as the week to come, but there were a few big results to discuss before we get to what we’re really looking forward to. The biggest game of the week was undoubtedly #4 Spencer County at #6 Shelby County. Spencer County entered unbeaten at 8-0, and could have secured the district title with a win. Shelby County also controlled their destiny, needing a win in that game as well as the following week against Collins to secure the #1 seed, and it was they who exited the game still in control, gaining a 42-28 victory over the Bears. Shelby County was... Read More →

1A Notebook 10/20/15 - District Showdown Review

By Voice of Reason - We have reached the final week of the district play. There have been some interesting twists and turns and we have some big games this final week. Let's review 1A from a district review angle this week. District 1 As expected, this district comes down to the final week - #4 Russellville at Crittenden Co. A weak schedule has kept Crittenden Co. from getting into the top 10 in 1A, but if you look closely their schedule is just as strong as Russellville's. Most are expecting an easy win for Russellville in this one but I think it will be closer than most expect and Crittenden... Read More →

THE RANKINGS: 10) Lloyd Memorial (2A / 5-3) – The Juggernauts were looking fairly solid on Friday, particularly in the first half, but New Cath appeared to be a team of inconsistency, and the Juggs were certainly capitalizing on it. Lloyd held on to a lead through the beginning of the 4th quarter, but New Cath... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook: Finishing the Grind

By ATLCat - We will set up how the Districts look to be playing out further down, but first let's cover the headlines that led us to this point after another critical week of District vs. District crime Throughbreds Close Hard The jewel of this week was #7 Newport Central Catholic against #8 Lloyd Memorial and this game lived up to all the hype. After trading blows for the First Half the Juggernauts used the big play and their athletic ability of Justin Durham and Charles Gaines to open up a 2 score lead in the 4th Quarter. Newport Central Catholic has a lot of guys who have played in a lot of big... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Football Rankings (10/19)

By Ram - Beechwood remains the consensus #1 team in 1A this week, followed by Paintsville and Pikeville. Raceland’s close loss to Fairview drops the Rams from #4 last week to #7, and it doesn’t get any easier for them as they take on #2 Paintsville this week. Russellville and Paris each move up one spot. Fairview moves up to #6 this week after Campbellsville lost to Bethlehem last week and drops out of the top 10. Holy Cross (Louisville) enters this week at #10. Class 2A rankings remain unchanged this week, with Mayfield continuing to hold the #1 spot. The only shake up is Shelby Valley moving up... Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 10/18/15

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2015 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 8 Edition Concerning the top story line for this week: Say goodbye to the Elizabethtown Panthers. Bert (provides the Louisville Area Power Rankings) and I noticed that we both had Etown on our power rankings. Since North Hardin, Central Hardin and John Hardin are all in the Louisville Area power rankings, we agreed that it made most sense to move Etown to the Louisville power rankings with their nearby Hardin County neighbors even though they would probably rather stay west to avoid the beasts of Jefferson County. But before... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings 10-18-15

By Bert - 1) Male High School (8-0, Idle) – Numerous turnovers kept X closer Male could feel comfortable with but still pulled out the win. Next week is the old rivalry against Manual. On paper Male should win with confidence but rivalries are crazy. 2) Trinity High School (8-1, defeated Seneca 42-0) – Another easy win by Trinity. Next week versus Ballard should be a better game but Trinity should still win my a few touch downs. 3) St. Xavier High School (5-3, defeated by Male 27-24) – Male turnovers kept the game close but X just couldn’t climb the fence to victory. 4) DuPont Manual High... South Floyd - Closing, But Not Quitting

By gchs_uk9 - "Sometimes we stare so long at a door that is closing that we see too late the one that is open." Alexander Graham Bell In the fall of 2017, Floyd Central High School will open near Eastern, Kentucky, a consolidation of Allen Central and South Floyd High Schools. The school’s athletic teams will be known as the Jaguars and its athletes will dress in teal and gold. With excitement in the air over the $49 million facility that will house somewhere near 700 students, I decided to take a trip to eastern Kentucky to check on the situation at South Floyd – a school on the verge of closing... 3A Notebook - Shakeup at the Top, Now Who's #1?

By gchs_uk9 - Lexington Catholic Hooks Win at Boyle, Do They Climb Ladder to Top Ranking? With just over a minute to go in regulation of a ballgame tied at 24, Friday night's matchup between #1 Boyle County and #6 Lexington Catholic was already shaping up to be another in a long line of close, intense, classic games between the two rivals. When Lexington Catholic quarterback Kirk Fagot completed a nine-yard pass to Donovan Morris just across midfield, you had to think the Knights were making progress toward a potential game-winning field goal. It was what happened afterward that had heads spinning... Read More →

Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 10-18-15

By ATLCat - 10. Bell County (3A, 6-2)- Bobcats blow a 2 TD lead at home and now must take to the road. Jackson County should provide a nice bounce back. 9. Pikeville (1A, 6-2)- Panthers rout Phelps and continue the "get some young guys plenty of PT" portion of their schedule with Jenkins this week. 8. Corbin (3A, 5-3)- Huge win for the Hounds over their District rival makes them the favorite in their Region. Corbin seems to be peaking at the right time but the injury report continues to be a problem. Casey County shouldn't be too much of a challenge. 7. North Laurel (5A, 9-0)- The only... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings 10-12-15

By Bert - Apologies on the tardiness of this ranking. 1) Male High School (7-0, Idle) – Next week versus St. X should be a pretty god match up for Male. 2) Trinity High School (7-1, defeated Eastern 63-7) – Easy win by Trinity. Next week versus Seneca could be even worse. 3) St. Xavier High School (5-2, defeated Manual 27-6) – Good win over a strong Manual team. Next week against Male could be a great game. 4) DuPont Manual High School (6-1, Defeated by St. X 27-6) Disappointing loss for the Rams, this was Manual’s best chance to beat X in years. Next week versus PRP should be a good... Read More →

6A Notebook/ Who are the Play makers?

By CoachBuckett - We are approaching the end of the regular season with 3 weeks before we begin post season play. We have discussed many times the top teams in class 6A. We have talked week after week about Male and if there will be anyone who has the ability to beat them. This week I want to shift focus to the statistical leaders of Class 6A. Who are the guys making plays for their teams. What do they mean to their team? The Male Bulldogs are loaded with many talented players. We first think of Male we think of University of Louisville commit Kieon Wakefield. He has been slowed some this season, not by... Read More →

1A Notebook 10/13/15 - District Shuffle?

By Voice of Reason - Last week was a calm one in 1A. Everything went true to expectations with the only top ten team to lose being #8 Fairview, who lost to #2 Paintsville. This week should be a little more interesting with some key district battles happening that could shuffle the rankings and playoff lineups. Who will be the winners and losers this week in 1A? The #1 ranked Beechwood Tigers should have no problem continuing their winning ways. This week's opponent, the 5-3 Ludlow Panthers, might be their toughest district opponent but Beechwood is still a big favorite. Beechwood's defense finally got it done... Read More →
