10th Region Recap and Rankings - 2/13/17

By mcpapa - One more easy week of the regular season remains. District matchups are set. A bit of movement in the top four, with what looks to be a significant gap between our number 4 and number 5. Here's hoping everybody gets healthy and is able to play at full strength, as injuries and illness still plague several squads. 1. Campbell County (24-4, 10-1 region). A 1-2 week slowed the Camels down, starting with their first home-court loss of the season to Simon Kenton. The reliable duo of Bertsch and Heygi led the Camels with 26 and 16 with Hegyi battling illness. Next came a 31-point romp... Read More →

Inside the 13th Region (02-13-17)

By Les - 1. Corbin (21-4 overall, 13-2 vs. 13th Region opponents) The Redhounds snapped Harlan County’s 23-game home win streak and eight-game win streak during last week’s 73-61 win. Corbin looks to be peaking at the right time. 2. Knox Central (22-5, 11-3) The Panthers are blowing everyone out. They have a solid match-up with Cordia tonight, and will finish regular season play against North Laurel. 3. North Laurel (22-5, 11-3) The Jaguars keep on rolling, and have two important games against Corbin and Knox Central coming up. The key to both games will be if Bryan Gray will be good to go... Inside the 4th Region (2/13/17)

By DragonFire - Fourth Region Rankings 1) Bowling Green (26-2) - 2/6 79-71 OT W at #3 Greenwood, 2/7 83-61 W Owensboro, 2/10 101-69 W at #7 Warren East, 2/11 69-45 W Male Previous Rank: 1 This Week: 2/14 vs. #3 Russellville The week began with what was easily the biggest test that they have faced in the district and region in quite some time. For the first time since the 2015 Region Semifinals, a region team took them to an overtime session, and in-district, it's the first time since the last district or region loss BG took, a 64-58 OT loss to Warren Central in 2015. But much like the 2015... Read More →

11th Region Recap and Rankings Week 11

By mooremiller31 - We are approaching the final week of the regular season in the 11th Region and district tournament matchups are set. The 11th Region has placed 5 teams in the latest Cantrell Top 25 Rankings and as always looks to be one of the toughest regions to get out of. Team of the Week - Paul Laurence Dunbar You are going to be hard pressed to find a team that had a better week then PLD this past week. They started off the week with a 30 point blowout win over South Laurel, then went to Henry Clay and won by 25, but the real eye opener was the 19 point win over Covington Catholic at Thomas More... 8th region re-cap 2/13/17 week 11

By 8th Region Warrior - Last week of the regular season...What a ride thus far and with our region we have some great match ups in district play. Valentines day this week could mean heart break for teams heading into tournament play. Let us not overlook some games that we have this upcoming week. Most of the coaches like a challenging game this week to sharpen the saw to say, while others may like to slide into district play. My hopes are that all players stay healthy this last week, and others get healthy as we make the push for the regional tourney at the Roy. We had a wild week in the 8th region that saw... Inside the 6th Region (02/13/2017)

By coachlee - This is an early edition of the 6th region recap, but all of the past week games are in. It was a wild week with many of the top teams losing to make this week's groupings look a little different to account for who is getting hot at the right time. Only one week in the regular season is left and most teams have a pair of games. The big question now is if Fern Creek can run the table against 6th region opponents. The only teams left in their way of an undefeated regular season in the 6th region are PRP & Moore. Both of those teams are capable of producing an upset if Fern Creek does not... Read More →

Another Tackling Drill for LBs: Tackling Rings

By ChiefSmoke - Here is another great drill from Coach Brian Rowland. The inside LBs react to their key and scrape to the ball. It is a race. The frontside LB tries to get to the frontside of the ring and the backside LB tries to get to the backside of the ring... first. It is great that we are able to practice tackling in February without pads. We need to the work and this is a safe way to get in the reps that we need. The drill also helps with taking the proper angle to the ball and eliminating a false step. Good job Coach Rowland! BlackShoes&WhiteShoeStrings: Tackling Drill with Tackling Rings:... Read More →

Inside the 1st Region - Week 10

By silo11 - Some movement taking place within the region this week. Graves solidified its position as the top team in region 1, even with the loss of Ryan Mathis. Paducah Tilghman has come on strong and really making a push for title considerations. McCracken County and Marshall are both still in the mix and Mayfield will round out the top tier of the region. Should be interesting final couple weeks and the region tournament should be filled with great games. This week pits Graves against Mayfield and Tilghman vs McCracken. 1. Graves County Eagles Overall record: 19-7 Record this week: 3-0... Read More →

Inside the 9th Region 2/7

By Walter - With two weeks left in the regular season, the district seeds have been determined and we have a pretty clear idea of who SHOULD represent each district in the region tournament. Here is where each team is ranked as of now: 1. Covington Catholic (22-4) The Colonels continue to dominate the area as they extended their win streak to 10 games with wins over Scott (82-46) and Beechwood (77-37). Aiden Ruthsatz (23 pts), Cole Vonhandorf (20 pts), and AJ Mayer (18 pts) led a balanced attack in the blowout win over Scott. In the win over Beechwood, Vonhandorf led the way with 22 points, 10... Inside the 3rd Region(2/7)

By ApolloFan98 - Overall, it was a rough week for the 3rd Region. First, the sweet 16 draw did no favors, as the 3rd drew the 9th. Then it seemed like everyone took their lumps, some more than others. Although they still sport an impressive in region record, Apollo has started to slip against solid competition from outside the region. Owensboro and Daviess County appear to be fading. Just when it looked like Ohio County turned the corner, they suffer a lopsided defeat at home to Breck County. While the district seeding has become clear over the past week(listed below), the favorites are far from clear.... Read More →

Inside the 6th Region (02/06/2017)

By coachlee - The finish line is getting closer and each week mixes in a surprise or two just when you think you have it figured out. The one thing that remains clear is currently Fern Creek continues to hold up as the region favorite while building their record to a very impressive 24-2 on the season. Their last 4 games will match them against 6th region opponents who will all be lining up to give the Tigers their first regional loss. This week rankings will continue with the tier groupings as a way of identifying the top challengers to Fern Creek, those that have a chance to contend, and then the... Read More →

10th Region Recap and Rankings - 2/6/17

By mcpapa - As we draw near to the end of the regular season, the usual issues and questions begin to percolate. Will Mason County be able to take advantage of that nearly insurmountable home-court edge? Will this be Bracken County's year to finally capture that elusive 39th district crown? Who is poised to take the 40th district title? Is popcorn superior to bbq? Can Scott upset Campbell in the 37th? Who will capture player-of-the-year honors? For now though, we focus on the previous week and the ramp-up to the postseason. 1. Campbell County (23-2, 9-1 region). Don't look now, but the... Read More →
