By Bert - 1. Trinity (5-0) – Trinity completed its five game run through several top teams in other states and the 6A #3 team. This week the Rocks get a lighter opponent in Jeffersontown. 2. St. Xavier (4-0) – St. X decisively defeated a strong Central team. Things get no easier as X will visit top five PRP. 3. Male (4-1) – Male returns to its winning ways with a nice win over Western. 2A Midterm

By DevilMayCare - To the best of my recollection, I was pretty much a straight A student from my first day of school up through the midway point of my 4th grade school year. It was at that point that I received my first ever C on a report card. Mrs. Ratliff had rendered her verdict… young DMC didn't do math good. I was terror stricken at the idea of handing that wretched report card over to my mother. I just knew that I was a dead man walking. I took my sweet time walking home that day after exiting the school bus. After sneaking into my bedroom, I stared in disbelief at the blood red C before my eyes. A... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 9/19 - Let The Horses Run

By ATLCat - Longshot Lands in the Winner Circle: Let's be honest. You didn't see this coming. Christian Academy- Louisville traveled to Newport and most assumed the top ranked team in Class 2A would be able to take care of a Newport Central Catholic team that had been outscored 89-36 in their two previous games. Instead the Throroughbreds dominated the line of scrimmage, forced key turnovers, made the plays down the stretch, and shocked the Centurions 20-15. It was the first time CAL had tasted defeat to a 2A school, not named DeSales, since they opened the 2012 season with a loss to Lexington... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (9/19): Collins Misses Their Shot

By DragonFire - Last week we talked about Wayne County taking it on the chin against Boyle County, leaving the door open for Collins to stake their claim to the #2 spot when they hosted Boyle County this week. The opportunity was ready-made for a comparison. The claim would be especially strong given the performance by 4A teams against out of class competition, particularly ranked competition. In all, through five weeks the top 10 teams in 4A are 1-9 when matched against a top 10 team that week from another class. Ashland’s win over then-#6 Raceland (in 1A) stands as the sole victory. The... Read More →

Strength of Schedule Case Study - Ohio County vs. Henderson County

By Voice of Reason - We are at the point in the season when some teams have good records and are wondering why they aren't getting credit. Meanwhile, we have teams with 1 win who are considered a top 15, even a top 10, team in their class. There has been some discussion about this in the rankings threads this week. A quick glance at a 5-0 team versus a 1-4 team says the 5-0 team is going to crush them. But there is often more to the story. The big question we should always ask is who have these teams played? Who has the 5-0 team beaten and who has the 1-4 team lost to? I haven't looked closely up and down the... Read More →

Central KY Power Rankings 9-18-17

By All State Baseball - 1.2A: Lexington Christian Academy (5-0): LCA continues to roll. The Eagles had yet another 400+ total yardage game Friday night when they hosted Walton-Verona. The Eagles didn’t have much of a problem with the Bearcats as they routed them 48-13. Now, the schedule gets a little tougher for LCA as they play, KCD (5-0), Somerset (3-2) and Danville (5-0) all within a 4 week span. 2.6A: Scott County (3-2): After starting the season off 3-0 and basically steam rolling their opponents, the Cardinals have since, lost their last 2 games, both to Cincinnati power-houses Moeller and LaSalle. Will... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (9/18)

By Ram - Class 1A Beechwood was proven to not be immortal as they tasted defeat for their first time against Class 5A's top ranked team, Covington Catholic. The Tigers remain the top team, but now the rest of the small schools have new hopes that they may be able to reel in Beechwood. Kentucky Country Day makes a move up to the #2 spot and will have a chance to make a huge statement against an undefeated Class 2A Lexington Christian Academy. Paintsville made short work of Williamsburg last week and will now keep it local travelling up the Country Music Highway to challenge 3A Lawrence County.... Read More →

Class 6A Notebook 9/18: No changes to the Top 8!

By thsrocks - Five teams remain unbeaten n Class 6A. Oho County, Simon Kenton, and Trinity are all 5-0. Pleasure Ridge Park and St. Xavier enter their contest at 4-0. Only three games involving top ten 6A teams are included in a poll thread this week. These include #2 St. Xavier at #3 Pleasure Ridge Park; #5 Male at #7 Butler; #6 Simon Kenton vs. 5A #11 Highlands. #1 Trinity at Jeffersontown is not worthy of a poll. #4 Scott County vs. Bryan Station is certain to be a blowout. #9 Manual at Seneca is another mismatch. Ryle and Campbell County are both off this week. Of the “others to watch”, only... Read More →

3A Notebook: Larue, Jaggers Both Looking to Finish What they Started

By gchs_uk9 - Larue County Off to Best Start Since 2002 One of the biggest surprises in Class 3A halfway through the season has been the resurgent Larue County Hawks. Having gone five consecutive seasons without a winning record, including a winless 2013, Larue has won five straight to open the 2017 campaign, the best start in Hodgenville since 2002. What might be even more surprising is they're doing it with a second time around coach many never expected to walk the Hawks sideline again. Josh Jaggers took the head coaching position at Larue County in 2012, replacing Rodney Armes who had spent... Read More →

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2017 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 4 Edition Concerning the top story line for this week, a year ago lightning made its presence felt across the Commonwealth delaying and prematurely canceling games. 2A/3A Game of the Week: 2A #3 Mayfield vs. 3A #2 Corbin at Austin Peay

By DevilMayCare - As non-district play begins to wind down, there are still some exciting inter-class heavyweight battles left on the schedule, and Mayfield vs. Corbin certainly fits that bill. These two programs are rich in tradition, have large, passionate fan bases, and currently have expectations of hoisting some major hardware at Kroger Field in early December. But, first things first. The Cardinals and Redhounds have some business to tend to at Austin Peay University this Friday. This will be the third year in a row that these two teams have met, with Mayfield winning in 2015 (28-14) & 2016 (35-34).... Read More →

5A Notebook (9/14) The Colonels topple the Kings

By JDEaston - With most teams having four games under their belts at this point in the season, several teams are really starting to stand out as the front runner’s for the class 5A title. The 5A field this season is much more competitive than in recent memory with a handful of teams all having a shot to take home the trophy. In other words, don’t expect a 70-22 type of championship game as witnessed last season when the Purples walked their way to another state championship. Covington Catholic and Bowling Green currently stand out as the top two teams to challenge for the championship this season,... Read More →
