3A Notebook: Report of Central's Death an Exaggeration

By gchs_uk9 - Crown Not Yet too Heavy for Central William Shakespeare wrote in his play King Henry IV, "uneasy lies the head that wears a crown." For ten consecutive years Louisville Central has worn the district champion crown and after 27 seniors graduated from the 2015 team, along with a strong push from several teams within the district, there was talk that this year would be the year the title was relinquished. After starting 0-4 in 2016, that talk grew even louder. However, to modify an old Mark Twain quote, "the report of Central's death was an exaggeration." On Friday night, #6 Central... Read More →

1A Notebook 9/20 - Matchup Games

By Voice of Reason - Two of the top 5 in 1A took losses last week from teams in the very top tier in the state. Beechwood lost to Covington Catholic and dropped a couple places in the rankings as a result. Pikeville lost by an even wider margin to Belfry. Pikeville hung on to the #5 ranking despite the loss. It looks like the feeling in the ranking is the top 5 in 1A have separated themselves from the next 5. Looking ahead to this week's games there are several matchups that are interesting. Everyone has their thoughts on how these key games will go. Since we are about halfway through the season, I thought it... Read More →

By Bert - Thanks to our Sponsor WBKI TV Louisville The CW. Get in the game with Game On WBKI Saturdays @ 8p. Tv station: WBKI TV Twitter: @ItsGame_On 58145 1. Trinity – (5-0) Some say Trinity came out to PRP a little too relaxed with their success this season winning only by 19 (29-10), or maybe PRP is better than many thought they were? Regardless, Trinity stays number 1 as it faces Jeffersontown which should not be much of a game. 2. Male – (4-1) Male dominates Seneca (66-6) as expected and hangs on to the second place. Next week Male faces a little more difficult opponent in Butler. ... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (9-20-16) The Best and the Rest

By JDEaston - At the halfway point in the season three teams have really stood out as the top contenders. Bowling Green, the consensus number one, along with Covington Catholic and Christian County all seem to have separated themselves from the rest of the playing field. But that doesn’t mean the other teams in class 5A won’t have something to say about that come playoff time. The next group of teams to take note of would be Greenwood, Fern Creek, Pulaski County, and Southwestern. Each of those teams have had great season’s thus far, especially Greenwood whose sole loss is to 4A #4... Read More →

KHSAA issues ruling on Unsporting Acts and shortened games in Football

By theguru - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 20, 2016 The KHSAA today issued sanctions regarding Bylaw 15 (Practice of Sportsmanship) violations from a pair of football contests, as well as final rulings concerning Bylaw 22 (Contests, Sanctions, Rules, Forfeitures) incidents from last weekend. Per the KHSAA Competition Rules, when a contracted football game is interrupted by events beyond the control of all parties, three choices exist: a) Terminate game with score as it exists; b) Resume game at point of interruption at a mutually agreed date and time. Class 4A Notebook (9/19): It's All About Tiers

By DragonFire - We’re halfway through the 2016 regular season. Can you believe that? Isn’t that depressing? But depression aside, to my eyes, we have seen some definitive tiers emerge in 4A. The true monsters of the class seem to shuffle around a bit in the top 5, but they all stay in the top five. John Hardin crashed the party early on, and perhaps may yet do so again in the future, but for now, they occupy the stalking horse position. But those top five, you have to really feel like one of them is going to be your state champion. You have Johnson Central and their powerful run game, tearing up... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 9/19- Here Comes DeSales

By ATLCat - Colts Catching Up When teams like Mayfield and Central have been able to crush schools from other classifications with a number next to their name it has made it somewhat easy to see DeSales fade from the foreground. The Colts took an early season loss to a solid 6A Ballard squad and their early season conquests over some of 6A's more "middle of the pack" squads really didn't raise eyebrows. DeSales though sure put themselves on notice Friday by handling a Top 5 ranked 5A Fern Creek squad in rather convincing fashion. DeSales has overcame some early season bumps and bruises and just... Bluegrassprep's Football Rankings (9/19)

By Ram - Class 1A The two teams who played for the Class 1A State Title in 2015 had tough draws this Friday as Beechwood and Pikeville lost by a combined score of 100-23 to two very good larger classification foes. The two remain in the Top 5, but as a result Paintsville and Raceland both see their number decrease by one behind incumbent top-ranked Russellville. District play begins for some of the Top 10 teams with the most notable match-up being #6 Nicholas County putting their undefeated record on the line against Bishop Brossart. Beechwood and Fairview each draw Top 10 teams from Class 2A. ... Read More →

BluegrassPreps - Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 09/18/16

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2016 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 4 Edition Concerning the top story line for this week, lightning made its presence felt across the state delaying and prematurely canceling games. While I understand the rule, I honestly feel it is time to revisit this rule to see if adjustments could be made. I am safety first as much as the next guy, but if prevailing technical science/Doppler radar can intervene with "common sense", I feel SOME modification to the rule could pay off with MANY resumptions of games that are currently canceled in a SAFE manner or played in Scott... 3A Notebook: Easy as A,B,C

By gchs_uk9 - Adair, Bardstown, and Casey Proving Winning is Easy as A,B,C Five schools in Class 3A have made it to mid-September without a loss. Two of those were no surprise, as #1 Belfry and #2 Corbin have earned their preseason rankings by knocking off a number of quality teams from multiple classes. The three other undefeateds, however, may have caught a few by surprise. Adair County, Bardstown, and Casey County have combined to start the season 13-0 and there is potential for more wins and postseason success as the year progresses. Adair County has begun the last two seasons with long... Read More →

Johnson Central Golden Eagles (4A, 4-0)- Harlan County was no match for Matney's crew. District play begins with Boyd County. 3. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 5-0)- The Redhound Revenge Tour claims another victim in Southwestern. Up next they look to make waves across the state taking on 2A Powerhouse Mayfield. 4.
