Class 2A Notebook: 8 Bold Predictions For Round 2

By ATLCat - As we anxiously await an action packed Round 2 let's make a bold prediction for all 8 games that does not involved predicting the winning final score. Butler County (9-2) @ Mayfield (10-1) BOLD PREDICTION: Mayfield records 3+ Sacks and Forces 2+ Turnovers Rex Henderson is special and may very well be the 2A MVP in leading historically down Butler County to an impressive 9-2 mark in impressive fashion. With that said, Mayfield has a massive advantage at the LOS and will create a ton of pressure in the back field. Expect the Cards to lead early and force Butler to air it out more... Read More →

My 1A Prognostication: Pikeville 34 Russellville 21

By UK fball fan - I think a lot of folks will be shocked at how the 1a playoffs end up shaking out. I've read many, many topics concerning 1a football this year and have seen a lot of peoples selections for Bowling Green. The common consensus is that Paintsville will battle Beechwood in the title game the 1st weekend of December. I can certainly understand why as these 2 teams have been the most consistent all year long. In saying that, I do have some concerns about both teams. Let's start with Beechwood. Typically, the NCC game at the end of the regular season will give you a pretty good indication of how... Read More →

Commissioner’s Response to Home School Proposal (BR396)

By theguru - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 5, 2015 Commissioner’s Response to Home School Proposal: “Following the announcement of the bill (BR396) introduced by Representative Stan Lee (R-Lexington) and others on October 30, our office has again received a number of phone calls and emails from media members seeking comment. The proposal as drafted is not a measure to simply allow participation by home schooled students despite any title reference to Tim Tebow, who participated as a home schooled student in Florida. In fact, the actual bill, 16RS BR396, is much more impactful and potentially... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook: Three Games To Watch Round 1

By ATLCat - 1. Prestonsburg @ LCA- Two programs with a solid history that entered the year with high expectations only to see struggles. LCA enters with one of he most explosive Offenses in 2A led by Dillon Wheatley, PBurg has found their footing on Defense though anchored by Austin Peay commit LB Dalton Frasure. If Pburg can pull the upset it will potentially set up a rematch with Shelby Valley. The Blackcats fought hard but came up about 20 yards short of the upset in their first meeting with the Wildcats. 2. Covington Holy Cross @ Owen County- Holy Cross is the only 3 Seed in 2A who has a... Read More →

Bowling Green Purples Regular Season Recap

By Purple Nation - Purples end regular season with a 9 and 1 record. With the exception of about a 20 minute meltdown at St X, they could/would have run the table. Special Teams - B+ This year Special Team squad has done an above average job. Jr. Lee Ramsey has greatly improved his leg strength as well as his accuracy (should be top 5 kicker in Bluegrass next season). Rarely will you see an opposing team advance the ball past the 30 on kickoff returns past the Purples. Defense - B+ Purples do great job against the run and are typically lights out against the pass. Tre Fant has to be the defensive MVP... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings 11-2-15

By Bert - 1) Male High School (10-0, Defeated Western 56-0) – Easy win over a struggling team. Next game versus Jeffersontown should be about the same. 2) Trinity High School (9-1, Idle) – Rocks get a week off before their rematch with PRP. 3) St. Xavier High School (6-4, defeated Cincy St. X 20-10) – Not a terrible loss. Next week versus Eastern should be a snoozer. 4) DuPont Manual High School (8-2, Defeated Eastern 35-16) Pretty much as expected. Rematch versus Ballard next week. Manual will be favored. 5) Central (8-2, Defeated PRP) Central just keeps on winning. Next week versus... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Class 6A Football Playoff Preview

By Ram - The 2015 Class 6A regular season has ended. Speculation can begin on who is good enough to make it to the Championship Game. Will there be a surprise this season or will it be status quo? Region 1 The Western Kentucky Region looks to be a two horse race this year. Traditional powers Meade County and Henderson have struggled this season. McCracken County (8-2) looks to be the heavy favorite to reach the regional final game. They have been the most consistent team in the region. Though last week they lost to a very good Bowling Green team, I don’t think it affects the thinking that... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Class 5A Football Playoff Preview

By Ram - Many may have questioned who should be the favorite in Class 5A all season. Many have valid arguments: Pulaski County won the State Championship last season and should be number one; Pulaski County hasn’t done anything to prove they are not number one; Bowling Green has a great history; Bowling Green has beaten everyone they were supposed to beat and should be number one. All the opinions have merit, but as the playoffs begin both teams are there and both teams now have the opportunity to prove who is the real number one team in Class 5A. Will it be Pulaski County or Bowling Green? Or, will... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Class 4A Football Playoff Preview

By Ram - This class has been fairly static for much of the year, but got a little chaos introduced to it in the final week with several teams producing odd results. But one team has stood apart the whole season, end to end. Region 1 Coming into the year, it was a given that South Warren was going to be the favorite in their region, and a co-favorite for their side of the state. They announced LOUDLY in Week 0 that they were perhaps the favorite for the entire state with a 43-12 thrashing of then-#2 John Hardin. Since that time, South Warren has occupied the stalking horse position of #2 right... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Class 3A Football Playoff Preview

By Ram - Region 1 Class 3A-Region I has been the domain of South Warren for the last few years without any real challengers. When the Spartans moved up to Class 4A this year, it left a spot to be filled. This year, Region I's top four seeds have combined to lose only six games (two of those were to each other) and picking a favorite has proven to be very difficult. The champion should come from one of three teams - Caldwell County, Elizabethtown, or Paducah Tilghman. Caldwell County (8-2) won District 1 and squeezed eight consecutive wins between a season opening two-point loss to Christian... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Class 2A Football Playoff Preview

By Ram - Region 1 In a Class that has a nice mix of balance across the 4 Regions, there is no denying Region 1 is probably the thickest with the elite of the class. Three of 2A’s top Contenders all reside in Region 1 in #1 Mayfield, #4 Owensboro Catholic and #6 Murray. In addition you can throw in Butler County who has flirted all season in the 10-12 range of the class. Mayfield has the distinct advantage of home field advantage until the State Finals. Expect the Cardinals to parlay this into a Regional Finals birth. Butler County is a fun team and QB Rex Henderson may very well be the MVP of... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Class 1A Football Playoff Preview

By Ram - Region 1 This region has a very different look and feel this year. The king of this region the past few years is now playing in 2A which means we will crown a new regional winner in region 1 this year. Despite the king being gone, it looks like he has just been replaced by a new king. Russellville is the team that gave Mayfield its toughest challenges. Now that Mayfield is gone, Russellville is the heir apparent. As we look at the brackets, Russellville and Campbellsville will have no trouble winning in round one and meeting in round two. Early in the year, this was shaping up as a big... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Football Rankings (11/2)

By Ram - In Class 1A, the final rankings have Beechwood at #1, a surprise to no one. The Red Tigers have been at the top all season and are expected to take their game to Bowling Green. They are followed by Paintsville at #2 and Pikeville #3. The Blue Tigers won their first matchup with Pikeville in a close game and it looks as if the two may match up a second time in the playoffs. Russellville ends at #4 with Paris at #5. Fairview finishes at #6 and the top 10 are rounded out by Raceland at #7, Hazard at #8, Bishop Brossart at #9 and Holy Cross – Louisville at #10. Raceland will meet up with Bishop... Read More →
