By All State Baseball - 1.Shelby Valley (19-3): After suffering a 54-37 loss at the hands of Owensboro Catholic in the first round of the KHSAA All “A” Classic at the Frankfort Civic Center, the Lady Wildcats bounced back by picking up 2 wins, 2 region wins. Defeating Pikeville 48-47 in a thriller and East Ridge 72-30. Senior guard Lakyn Mullins continues leading the Lady Wildcats, averaging right at 17 points a game. One of the losses they suffered came at the hands of Perry Central, 69-62 on the Lady Commodores home floor. Things are about to get real interesting as the Lady Cats travel to Hindman to face #2 and preseason region favorite, Knott Central no Friday. By All State Baseball - 1.Mason County (20-3): After falling 54-41 to #2 Campbell County, the Lady Royals bounced back and bounced back in a big way the very next two games. Mason County defeated Rowan County 51-42 then just absolutely plowed Nicholas County 66-12. Believe it or not, the Lady Royals only had 2 players that had double figures in scoring in the rout of Nicholas County, juniors Maddie Boone (17) and Jordan Frodge (13). By 15th Region - Overview: After 10 weeks of play 3 teams have rose to the top in the 15th Region. Lawrence County is still the favorite, but Magoffin and Johnson Central have proven they have what it takes to make it to Rupp Arena and the sweet sixteen. South Floyd and Pikeville seem to be getting hot at the right time and could make a run. Shelby Valley has two great scorers and could pose problems in the tournament. By SHS Future - 12th Region Rankings for 2/8/16 1) Mercer County (24-1) - "And down goes Frazier!” The Titans suffer their first loss of the year against Lafayette 59-77. In the loss, Mercer struggled shooting averaging only 23% from 3 point range. Earlier in the week the Titans beat Pulaski County 69-58. In that game they shot 58% from behind the arch. By The Scribe - Christian County remains the number one team in the Second Region with convincing wins over University Heights, Trigg County and Henderson County in consecutive days last week. Sophomore Detorrion Ware kept his hot hand for the Colonels, knocking down 18-of-33 from behind the 3-point arc in those three wins. Hopkinsville held off Trigg County 63-55 Saturday, two days after Trigg lost to Christian County 79-57. They finish district play against Lexington Catholic on Tuesday before playing Henry Clay Thursday and travelling to Taylor County on Saturday. 2. By All State Baseball - 1.Morgan County (19-6): The Cougars had their 9 game win streak snapped when they fell to Owen County in the second round of the KHSAA State “A” Classic Tournament in Frankfort. Since the loss, the Cougars have went 3-2 with the other loss coming to 15th region’s, Magoffin County. Jordan Perry continues to led the way for Morgan County, averaging right at 28 points a game. But the top spot isn’t something new for the South Laurel Cardinals, it’s a place they’ve become accustomed to during the past month and a half.
