Inside the 3rd Region(2/7)

By ApolloFan98 - Overall, it was a rough week for the 3rd Region. First, the sweet 16 draw did no favors, as the 3rd drew the 9th. Then it seemed like everyone took their lumps, some more than others. Although they still sport an impressive in region record, Apollo has started to slip against solid competition from outside the region. Owensboro and Daviess County appear to be fading. Just when it looked like Ohio County turned the corner, they suffer a lopsided defeat at home to Breck County. While the district seeding has become clear over the past week(listed below), the favorites are far from clear.... Read More →

Inside the 6th Region (02/06/2017)

By coachlee - The finish line is getting closer and each week mixes in a surprise or two just when you think you have it figured out. The one thing that remains clear is currently Fern Creek continues to hold up as the region favorite while building their record to a very impressive 24-2 on the season. Their last 4 games will match them against 6th region opponents who will all be lining up to give the Tigers their first regional loss. This week rankings will continue with the tier groupings as a way of identifying the top challengers to Fern Creek, those that have a chance to contend, and then the... Read More →

10th Region Recap and Rankings - 2/6/17

By mcpapa - As we draw near to the end of the regular season, the usual issues and questions begin to percolate. Will Mason County be able to take advantage of that nearly insurmountable home-court edge? Will this be Bracken County's year to finally capture that elusive 39th district crown? Who is poised to take the 40th district title? Is popcorn superior to bbq? Can Scott upset Campbell in the 37th? Who will capture player-of-the-year honors? For now though, we focus on the previous week and the ramp-up to the postseason. 1. Campbell County (23-2, 9-1 region). Don't look now, but the... Read More →

Inside the 12th Region (2/6/17)

By SHS Future - 12th region Basketball February rolls in with the 12th Region as wide open as it has been in a few years. The road to Rupp begins in a little more than two weeks and there is no clear favorite as to who will cut down the nets. The top two teams fell in 12th Region play last week and there is a new #1 this week. Can the Mercer County Titans hold on to the top spot or will they be bounced as Pulaski County and Southwestern were? It’s gearing up to be a great month of basketball and the end will be here before we know it. Here is this week’s 12th Region rankings and review. 12th Region... Read More →

Inside the 15th Region (2-6-17)

By 15th Region - Overview: Not much change at the top in the region this week but we did see a few surprising upsets as Paintsville knocked off Lawrence County in Louisa and Prestonsburg downed South Floyd at Hi Hat. The top tier teams are getting primed to make a deep post season run and the region has two of the top ten scorers in the nation in Timmy Dalton and Mason Blair (per maxpreps). 1. Johnson Central (19-6) – The Golden Eagles went 2-0 in week ten with wins over Magoffin County and Breathitt County. In the Magoffin game, Mason Blair was electric as he scored 47 points and brought his team back... Read More →

Inside the 7th Region (2-6-17)

By PurplePride92 - News and Notes: In the department of not much has changed Trinity is still the top team in the 7th Region. With Jacob King back in the fold Trinity is every bit as powerful now as they were at the beginning of the season when they were without him. With four players averaging double figures in points it will not be an easy feat for any team to knock Trinity out of the postseason. Waggener has added Devin Cooper back onto their team and he is averaging around 23 points a game right now for Waggener. Waggener has gone 2-5 since Cooper has joined the team but they have lost those... Read More →

Inside the 13th Region (02-06-17)

By Les - 1. Knox Central (18-5 overall, 9-2 vs. 13th Region competition) The Panthers are the real deal, and become the fourth different team int he 13th Region to claim the top spot this season. Knox Central has now won six games in a row thanks to a high-octane offense attack led by Markelle Turner and Wade Liford. The Panthers haven’t played the toughest of schedules in the 13th Region, but they’ve shown that they are the region’s best team at the present time. They do get a chance to show just how good they are with upcoming games against Clay County, Cordia and North Laurel coming up. 2.... Read More →

Inside the 5th Region (2-6-17)

By PurplePride92 - News and Notes: Adair County is continuing to roll along this season as they are now sitting on a 24-1 record, 16-0 against 5th Region teams and 6-0 against 20th District teams. They last lost a game on December 19th against Collins on a neutral floor. While some may say that their schedule isn't very challenging they do still have wins over North Hardin and Taylor County in the 2017 calendar year. Kel Stotts has been out the past few games and his return will only make Adair County that much stronger. Bardstown is coming together nicely as they are now 18-5 overall, 10-0 against... 8th Region Recap Week 10 2/6/17

By 8th Region Warrior - Where has this season gone? It seems as it has moved really quick or I am just getting older. Coaches are tired, players are tired, BUT anticipation of best part of the season is coming up. Everything teams have worked for will be dangling in front of them in two weeks. Throw records out the window, as a new season begins in the Bluegrass state. In the 8th region it is really hard to say who will be playing in Roy Winchester gymnasium. The #2, vs. #3 match-ups in all districts should be great games to watch. Any of those teams can make the journey to Henry County in a couple... Read More →

A Parent's Guide to Football Camp: This is How we did it

By ChiefSmoke - If you know of a family that would benefit from this information, please share the link below. Thank you- ChiefSmoke This time of year, parents begin to ask me about summer camps for their son. Here is how I handled it when I coached my oldest son, John Combs. He went to three tough camps that worked him hard and helped him improve at the linebacker position. Before his freshman season, he spent 3 days at the UK camp, working with Chuck Smith. Before his sophomore season, he spent three days at the Tennessee camp, working with Sal Sunseri. Prior to his junior year, he spent three days... Read More →

Perry Central has improved their overall record to 20-7 but most importantly, they’ve improved their REGION record to 9-0. 6 of those 9 wins have been by double digits. With just 2 games left, can the Commodores keep this streak going or will Breathitt County hand them their first region loss? But before that game, the Commodores will focus in on Belfry. 2.Knott County Central (16-8): The Patriots have been playing good ball as of late, having won 6 straight before falling @ Perry Central 68-60.
