10th Region Rankings & Weekly Review (12-21-15)

By Randy Parker - There is no change this week with teams 1 and 2, but the rest of the Top 10 squads all have a new spot as we start Week #4. As we've touched on before, this kind of movement will likely become the norm each week. #1 - Paris (5-1) Terence Brooks' club played its first game as the #1 team in the 10th Region on Tuesday night, and the Hounds were impressive in dominating host Robertson County 109-57. Seven Paris players registered double figures, led by Wan Dumphord's 19 and Marcus Ashford's 15. On Friday night the Greyhounds held off visiting Frankfort 68-64. Point guard James... Read More →

11th Region Notebook for the week of December 21st

By Wildcatfan25 - Team of the Week: Madison Southern – It’s hard to pick a team of the week when almost everyone only played one game since the rankings were last posted. So I went with Madison Southern. They are on a 4 game win streak including a surprising win over Cordia. I’ve seen it said that Coach Rhodes wasn’t at the game due to the birth of a child. Regardless, Madison Southern beat a team full of kids with D1 offers, so they are the team of the week. Player of the Week: Darius Williams, Dunbar – Had 49 points combined in wins over Fairdale and LCA. Darius can score from about anywhere. Once his 3... Read More →

Comparing Well Known 3A Programs to College Football

By ATLCat - Belfry= Nebraska (1990's) Lots of easy comparisons here. "The Big Red" had a historic run at the very elite of levels, despite an Offense most deemed as "primitive". A rabid and loyal fanbase and a nasty Defense were their calling cards under an aging but legendary coach. Much like Tom Osborne, what will happen once Haywood retires? Boyle County= Louisville Bare with me here... this comparison isn't about Championships. Much like Louisville Boyle had an unprecedented run under a specific Coach and elevated themselves well beyond past levels. Even once that Coach moved on to the next... Read More →

Comparing Well Known 5A Programs to College Football

By ATLCat - Highlands= USC The History is undeniable, and their great teams are revered as legends. A program that most envy and a long history of sending players to the next level where they become iconic. A bit of uncertain times that circle around Head Coaching, but a program that the safe money would be that they will not stay down long. Bowling Green= Florida (pre-2010) A program nearly all respects and most consider a powerhouse, but their trophy case had not reflected that. Then suddenly they took the next step and became the pre-eminent program for a stretch of time with a multitude of... Read More →

Comparing Well Known 6A Programs to College Football

By ATLCat - First and foremost this in jest... 6A Male= Ohio State One of the most respected programs on the whole landscape, their tradition is deep and lengthy. A long drought of seeing the other Blue Blood take their spot finally came to an end with a new Coach and a new energy. Lafayette= Clemson The talent is undeniable. Loaded with talent that will be starring at the next level, they have finally seemingly gotten over the hump and a Championship finally seems a real possibility. Will they seize the trophy in 2016 or will it just be another let down? Read More →

11th Region Notebook for the week of December 14th

By Wildcatfan25 - Apologies for the tardiness. Work has gotten in the way of my basketball addiction. Adulthood is the worst. Team of the Week: Scott County – The young Cardinals won 3 games in 3 days by knocking off LCA by 20, Corbin by 9 and Lex Cath by 11. Billy Hicks has his team playing well already and sit at 7-1 heading into the Christmas break. Player of the Week: Michael Moreno, Scott County – The big reason they went 3-0 last week. Michael went for 28 points and 13 rebounds against LCA, 19 and 8 against Corbin and 18 and 15 against Lexington Catholic. He also celebrated his 15th birthday on... Read More →

By ball_coach_4 - This is through December 16, 2015. I'll update next week, and on a weekly basis from now on. 1. Trinity (6-0) Had a strong team performance last night in a win against Manual. To date, they've shot an insane 45% from 3 pt. territory. They're averaging over 9 made threes per game. They have good wins versus state power Covington Cathlic, and a talented Fern Creek squad, which gives them the top spot. Tough match-up looming versus Owen County in the KOB this weekend. 2. Male (5-0) This team has been under the radar in the preseason talk. They've recently had two marquee... Read More →
