1A Notebook 10/25 - Big Tuneups

By Voice of Reason - Last Week District play has wrapped up and week 11 is here. The final week of district play was a little anti-climatic as most district champions were already decided. However, we did have two big games with district titles at stake and both were instant classics. First we will discuss Nicholas County at Bracken County. Nicolas County traveled to the Polar Bears den undefeated and full of confidence. And why not? The Bluejackets had handled district challenger Bishop Brossart, a team that defeated Bracken County by 3 touchdowns. Nicholas County had that top seed, district title and... Read More →

By JDEaston - With the leaves turning color and beginning to fall, as well as crisp nights and near perfect football weather, that tell’s me one thing, ‘tis this season. Playoff season that is. After one of the most action packed weeks thus far in class 5A, most teams around the class are getting one last game in this week to prepare for the playoffs. Last week was full of district matchups that ultimately decided several district championships with Bowling Green, Covington Catholic, Owensboro, Southwestern, and South Oldham among the winners. Class 4A Notebook (10/24): Who's Ready To Be Unbeaten?

By DragonFire - We’re headed into the final week of the regular season, an incredibly depressing thought when you realize that soon we’ll be 9 months away from football again. At times it is tough to enjoy what’s in front of you when you think of that sobering reality. But try we will, and there are some entertaining games on the docket that look rather enticing, and should whet our appetite for the playoffs, where the majority of first round games will be terrible. Moving on….. Johnson Central and Franklin-Simpson have themselves in position to finish off unbeaten regular seasons. #1 Johnson Central... Read More →

Corbin traveled to Casey County and rode the back of their stout defense to a 35-7 victory and their third straight district championship. Corbin (8-1) took a quick lead on a Cameron Sizemore touchdown run after a long opening kickoff return. Class 5A Notebook (10/18/16) District Champions

By JDEaston - Last week in Class 5A there were no top ten matchups. As well, all of the top ten teams did as expected and posted wins. Even though last week wasn’t full of excitement and upsets, there are still some scores and games to take note of, particularly South Laurel’s near upset of Pulaski County. This coming week will be much different however, as 6 of the top ten teams face off against each other, with each of those games deciding district championships. More on this week’s games later in the article. Last Week’s games As mentioned in the first paragraph, Pulaski County was nearly upset... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (10/17): District Breakdown

By DragonFire - As we enter the last week of district play, there is plenty still to shake out. Three district races have had their top seed decided (District 1 – Hopkinsville, District 2 – Franklin-Simpson, District 5 – East Jessamine), three more we’re tentatively confident in who is going to take the crown, and two have real unknown outcomes. But even among those two, one stands out. It’s been a long time since the sun has shined on Harrison County’s football program. Just last season, they snapped a 15 game losing streak. Their last winning season was in 2007, when they made a surprise run to the... Read More →

1A Notebook 10/17 - SHOWDOWN!

By Voice of Reason - The game of the year in 1A takes place this Friday. We will get to that later in the article. First let's look back at last week and then to this week's key district games. Last Week in 1A As district play rolls on, there weren't many significant games last week. Every team in the top 10 that played last week took care of business. The only one of those top 10 games that was even within a couple touchdowns was new #10 Williamsburg defeating Pineville 26-19. Every other top 10 team won by 4 touchdowns or more. That win earned Williamsburg the district 7 title. Even if Williamsburg loses... Read More →

Bluegrassprep's Football Rankings (10/17)

By Ram - Class 1A A light schedule last week saw no ranked team challenged by another foe with a number out to their left. The week's action was highlighted by Williamsburg taking control of the driver's seat in District 7 by taking care of Pineville on the road. Bishop Brossart also improved their stock and cemented themselves as a Dark Horse type of contender by taking care of Paris. Where last week lacked in having that truly marquee match-up, this week brings potentially the biggest regular season game of the year in Class 1A. Paintsville and Raceland will clash in a game certain to have the... Read More →
