10th Region Rankings & Weekly Review (1-3-16)

After a couple of weeks worth of holiday tournaments, schedules return to a somewhat normal format from this point on. #1 - Montgomery County (10-5) Though they had a 1-2 finish last week, the boys from Mt. Sterling maintain the top spot. The Indians began the week with a 74-56 win over Worthington Kilbourne OH in their own Gateway Holiday Classic. 13th Region Boys Rankings Jan. 3 - Jan. 10, 2016

South Laurel (10-2 overall, 4-0 against 13th Region teams) — The Cardinals are riding an impressive nine-game win streak with their only losses coming against unbeaten Mercer County (South lost 52-51) and twice-beaten Owen County (South lost in double overtime, 76-74). The Cardinals are led by the duo of Caleb Taylor (17.3 points per game) and Jared Grubb (17.1). They posted a 3-0 record in the Mountain School Boy Classic, a 2-0 mark in the Kentucky Bank Challenge and defeated Knox Central Saturday, 77-40. 2. By All State Baseball - 1.Leslie County (10-3): Leslie County started the season off good, picking up a win over region favorite Knott Central as they stormed out to a 9-1 record before falling. The Lady Eagles have went 1-2 in their last 3 games. Leslie County is getting good production out of senior forward Madisyn Combs who avarges 14 points and 5 boards a game and is shooting 36% from long range. By All State Baseball - 1.Perry County Central (10-3): No surprise that the Commodores are still #1 in the 14th region this week. Perry Central played some tough competition over Christmas break going 2-2 in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic. The Commodores went 2-2 with wins over Danville 55-50, Caverna 70-61 and losses to Lawrence County (the same team that the Dores’ will meet next Wednesday (January 6th) in the WYMT. By 15th Region - Overview: Week 4 marks the half way point of the Holiday season tournament barrage. We saw some shake up in the rankings but as of now we have 1 clear favorite in Lawrence County and 3 strong contenders in Magoffin County, South Floyd, and Johnson Central. They defeated previously unbeaten Franklin Simpson, 85-80, thanks to Trey Farmer’s 35-point scoring effort while Blake Smith added 31. 2. South Laurel Cardinals (6-2) — The Cardinals were off this past week, but did have a success two weeks ago by going 3-0 with wins over Corbin (43-41), Cordia (65-45) and Boyd County (68-49). By Randy Parker - The top 4 teams from our last rankings switch things up, including a new #1, but teams 5-17 remain the same as we prepare to turn the calendar to 2016. #1 - Montgomery County (9-3) Matt Daniel's Indians were impressive in taking the Mike Murphy Classic title last week in Maysville. MoCo drained 12-19 3's in a tournament opening 78-66 win over Simon Kenton. Art Walker scored 22, Brennan Canada 20, and Caswell Fuller 18 to lead Montgomery. By ACfan4 - 5th Region Rankings (12-27-15) 1. North Hardin (8-2)- North Hardin participated in the KOB this past week defeating Ballard and Fern Creek, but losing to Bullitt East. Then they lost to Male in the first round of the Lake Cumberland Holiday Classic which started Sunday. 2. Taylor Co. (4-3)- Taylor Co. played in the KOB this past week defeating Waggener, but losing to Owen Co. and Central. By Wildcatfan25 - Team of the Week: Scott County – At the rate these guys are beating top competition, the Cardinals have become a team I can legitimately see winning the region. They defeated West Jessamine, LCA (for a second time this season) and Eastern to win the Woodford County Invitational. Player of the Week: Isaiah Tisdale, Henry Clay – Led his team to 4 double digit wins at the Berea Invitational. Had 17 points and 12 rebounds in the championship game.
