West Carter 0 Greenup County 0 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - This turned out to be one team constantly shooting themselves in the foot and the other team always make the other pay for their mistakes. This was game two this weekend and it was a defensive battle from start to finish. Greenup would be the team to shoot themselves and thanks to a very stout defense West Carter always made them pay for it, by never giving up another big play, after the mistake. The first quarter was one nice play after the other, with one of the bigger ones being at the 7:37 mark. Richard McGlone stopped Cade Warnock for a short loss. Quarter number two was much... Fleming County 35 Nicholas County 7 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - This turned out to be a case of bigger is not always better. Nicholas County had some big hogs on their line, with all looking mean and strong. For Fleming the line was much smaller and maybe did not have that passed the looks feature, we all look for all to often. The defense for Fleming looked to have a sack on quarterback, Isaac Fryman by Zach Alexander but an off sides call negated the sack, with 11:34 left in the opening stanza. The Panthers defense gave up only seven yards on this drive as they had set the tone for what was about to come. Josh Crump scrambled to his right and... Read More →

By gchs_uk9 - 1. Belfry Pirates (2015: 14-1; Class 3A State Champions) Belfry is the prohibitive favorite in Class 3A this season and will also look to join Beechwood (1991-94), Boyle County (1999-2003), Trinity (2005-08), Highlands (2007-12), and Mayfield (2012-present) as the only schools to win four straight championships, cementing themselves among the royalty of Kentucky high school football. The Pirates are stacked with talent, returning nine starters on each side of the ball and five different players who were named All-State in some capacity in 2015. Bluegrasspreps' 2016 Class 6A Pre-Season Preview

By CoachBuckett - Going By The Numbers In 2007 Kentucky High School football went to a six class system. Over the last 9 years only 1 school outside of Jefferson County has won the State Title that being Scott County. Of those 9 Championship games, seven of them have been won by a private school. Six of those titles belong to Trinity. In 2015 we witnessed Male claiming the title and making them the only second public school to win a 6A State Championship. Biggest question of the season, Can anyone outside of Jefferson County take home the State Championship Trophy? 1. Trinity (11-2 3rd Round Loss... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' 2016 Class 1A Pre-Season Preview

By Voice of Reason - The New King of 1A? Heading into last season, most 1A watchers assumed the Beechwood Tigers would return to their place as king of 1A after Mayfield moved up in class to 2A. Outside of 1 playoff loss to Frankfort, Mayfield was the only 1A team to beat Beechwood in the 6 class era. It was easy to assume Beechwood would step right up for title number 12. The Pikeville Panthers had different thoughts. Behind the bruising power running of Daric Pugh and the ascent of Wyatt Battaille to one of the top QB’s in 1A, Pikeville avenged a 2014 upset playoff loss and deflating OT regular season... Bluegrasspreps' 2016 Class 4A Pre-Season Preview

By DragonFire - Heading into last year, 4A was a completely changed landscape, entirely devoid of the old guard that had dominated the class. It was seen as a time for schools that had long lived in the shadows to step out and finally achieve glory. In a way, that’s what we got, because we basically had to. But the real story of 4A became the coronation of a new state power in the South Warren Spartans, who absolutely pummeled everyone in their way en route to a perfect 15-0 record. No other school in the class finished with even just 1 loss. But relief will soon be on the way for 4A as realignment will... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' 2016 Class 2A Pre-Season Preview

By ATLCat - The Year of the Gunslinger One of the first Stephen King novels I ever read was The Dark Tower my Freshman Year of High School. The captivating tale is considered one of King’s greatest works and is now in full fledged major motion picture status. What though has brought such allure to this novel? None other than the main character Roland, more affectionately known as the last of the gunslingers. Everyone loves a gunslinger! From King’s protagonist to Eastwood and Wayne, the gunslinger has been deeply rooted in America’s culture long before any of us reading this were even born. The... Read More →

The Official Louisville Area Preseason Power Rankings

By Bert - First I want to thank everyone who participated in the first thread where I asked for your opinion. After reading your posts and talking to others in HS football, I present to you the “official” Preseason Louisville Area Power Ranking. 1. Trinity – it was pretty much a given that the #1 ranking was going to go to Trinity or Male. Trinity gets the nod this preseason simply due to T returning more starters and how strong the JV team did last year. Yeah, I know, not the greatest research in the world but preseason rankings are like political promises, they don’t hold a lot of water. ... Read More →
