1st Region Week 11 Review

By silo11 - There are three teams that look like they have a strong chance to win the Region 1 tournament. McCracken County, Mayfield, and Graves County have shown that they have what it takes to win it. All three teams have played at a high level during the year and will need their best to win. There are some teams that can throw a wrench into any of those teams dreams so it will not be a cake walk to get to that finals game. For now, here is this weeks rankings: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower BGP #9 2018-19 record: 25-3 Week’s Record: 3-0 The Mustangs continue their impressive... Read More →

12th Region Week 11 Review: Regular Season Winding Down

By TDC - The final week of the regular season is upon us, and the 12th Region has lived up to the preseason billing of being wide open and having several teams with legitimate shots at taking the Region crown. Despite each enduring a down week where they looked imminently beatable, both Danville and Wayne County have demonstrated the most consistent performance and currently deserve to be considered Region tournament co-favorites. District play comes first, of course, and the Cardinals have a much easier path (they’re already in) to the Region Tournament than the Admirals, who will have to survive a... Read More →

2nd Region Week 11 Review

By silo11 - University Heights and Madisonville-North Hopkins continue to show they are the class of Region 2. As the season finishes up this week, the Blazers and Maroons have dominated the entire 2nd region and the only time they played each other, it took everything out of both teams and a last second shot for UHA to come away with the one point victory. Hopkinsville and Christian may have a chance to make some noise, but it is slim at best. This season it will come down to two teams. History is on UHA’s side as District 8 has one 16 straight region 2 titles. Here are the rankings for this week.... Read More →

16th Region Week 11 Review: Elliott County Remains On Top

By Carson Palmer - Believe it or not we have reached the final week of the regular season. Elliott County remains unblemished in regional play as the potential contenders continue to topple each other on a weekly basis. Rowan County took two losses this past week while Boyd County and East Carter saw winning streaks snapped as well. Lewis County has reeled off six straight wins to position themselves as contenders in March. Here is a look at this week's ratings: 1. ELLIOTT COUNTY (20-3) The Lions were challenged by both Morgan County and Boyd County and once again responded in typical Elliott County fashion.... Read More →

14th Region Week 11 Review: Movement Among Us

By All State Baseball - It's been another outstanding year for Kentucky high school basketball. We have one final week left in the regular season before we head to the main season. 1) Knott County Central (20-8): 93-50 W over June Buchanan, 93-66 W over Cordia, 58-51 L to George Rogers Clark. This week: 2/14 (Thurs) at Knox Central. Previous Rank: #1 The Patriots went 2 out of 3 this past week, picking up wins over two district foes, June Buchanan 93-50 and Corida 93-66. The Patriots suffered a not so bad loss to one of the states best in George Rogers Clark, 58-51. The Patriots will have one final... Read More →

3rd Region Week 11 Review - Final Week

By ApolloFan98 - With one week left in the regular season, Owensboro is the clear cut #1 in the region. Their 3rd win of the season over Owensboro Catholic moved them to 7-0 vs 9th district teams and 12-0 against 3rd region competition. Breckenridge County has bounced back from their 2 point home loss to the Devils and have since won 4 straight. Once you get out of the top 3 teams in this region, you can really throw a blanket over the rest of the region. Everyone is beating everyone and there is to much inconsistency to nail down an exact rankings. This week, I just threw records out the window and went... Read More →

4th Region Week 11 Review

By DragonFire - Getting down to the nitty gritty.... 1) Bowling Green (21-5) - 2/4 73-52 W at #9 Barren County, 2/5 65-73 L Owensboro, 2/8 84-50 W at #12 Warren East Previous Rank: 1 This Week: 2/12 vs. #16 Russellville, 2/15 at Hopkinsville The record is still stellar, but as described previously, the Purples have undergone some growing pains of late. The Purples are down to two seniors on the team with the dismissals of Davion Dice in January and now Trevor Dennis earlier this week. Dennis had averaged in double digits for the Purples, but has been a non-factor since mid-January. The cracks... Read More →

Intra-District Playoffs - Great work Commissioner Tackett

By theguru - I can tell from reading BGP most of you disagree with my sentiment here and stance on Commissioner Tackett and I think you are all wrong. I believe he is the 'adult in the room' and he did great work here. I believe the vast majority of us Kentucky High School Football fans agree too many teams get in the playoffs in each class. Additionally, we fans are all over the place on the number of classes we should have in Kentucky but six is certainly at the extreme high end in a state with only 222 schools playing football. Doing some "simple math" here, when you combine too many teams... Read More →

8th Region Week 10 in Review - Oh My Gosh

By ColonelMike - 8th Region Week 10 Review: Oh My Gosh Have you ever heard of “diagnosis by exception”? This term is used to describe situations where doctors have to diagnose an illness or condition by methodically eliminating numerous other diagnoses, each more likely than the actual diagnosis. Eventually, after multiple labs, imaging, and tests, the doctors eliminate all the likely diagnoses and land upon the correct diagnosis. This year, that looks like how we’re going to ultimately choose the 8th region favorite. And I have a feeling, with just two weeks left in the regular season, that we... Read More →

2nd Region Week 10 Review

By silo11 - Biggest game this past week in region 2 was between Hopkinsville and Christian County. This was the first year in quite some time that this game wasn’t for who would be the number one seed in District 8 and a favorite to win region 2. This year, the second seed is up for grabs and neither are favored to go to Rupp Arena. Madisonville and UHA both still look to be on a collision for the Region 2 title Here are this week’s rankings: 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#5 2018-19 record: 22-4 Week’s Record: 1-1 All “A” Classic Champions University Heights played... Read More →

10th Region Week 10 in Review - Rounding the Corner and Heading for Home

By mcpapa - The weather reared its ugly head last week, causing a few cancellations with not enough time in the season for rescheduling. Our number one still holds the top spot; and not a lot has changed from top to bottom. 1. Campbell County (18-4, 9-0 region, 3-0 37th District). Campbell has now won 10 of 11; the only hiccup being a road loss at Walton-Verona. In fact, the Camels have lost three in-state games by a total of just nine points. Two of last week's three contests were cakewalks - a 32-point thumping of Harrison County and a 62-point demolition of Bracken County at home. Reid Jolly... Read More →

6th Region Week 10 Review

By SportsLife - 1. Butler (16-7): After splitting back-to-back overtime games, Butler was idle in Week 10. Both Maurice Tolley and Willard Minter are averaging double figures in scoring for the Bears. Butler has won three of its last five games. 2. Bullitt Central (16-9): Bullitt Central suffered a lopsided loss to Christian Academy-Louisville but bounced back to defeat Fairdale. As part of a balanced offensive attack, Jacob Mann, Aiden Terry, Chandler Ocasio and Tyler Tatum are averaging double figures in scoring for the Cougars. 3. Jeffersontown (14-10): Jeffersontown dismantled Whitefield Academy... Read More →

3rd Region Week 10 Review - Devils Emerge as the Favorite

By ApolloFan98 - Owensboro emerged from Breckenridge County High School on Tuesday night as the favorite to win the 3rd Region. Its a position they have been in a few times since winning the state title in 2015, but have failed to make it out of the 9th district tournament in each of those years. With only 2 weeks left in the regular season, it looks like there is Owensboro, with a slight drop off to Catholic and Breckenridge and then a huge drop off to everyone else in the region. 1. Owensboro Red Devils (15-7) UP 1 Owensboro moved to 11-0 inside the 3rd region and 5-0 inside the 9th district with... Read More →

13th Region Week 10 Review

By Les - 1. South Laurel (22-2 overall, 14-0 overall) The Cardinals continue roll. South Laurel solidified its No. 1 ranking in the 13th Region by upending rival North Laurel on the road Friday, 59-43. Jeff Davis’ squad continues to play solid defense and has now won six games in a row and 22 of its last 23 games. 2. North Laurel (16-9, 5-4) The Jaguars had a setback, losing to rival South Laurel last week, 59-43, but they are still playing pretty good basketball. Brad Sizemore’s squad will try to get back on track this week with games against Garrard County and Corbin. 3. Knox Central... Read More →

9th Region Week 10 Review: 17 of 20 teams move, including #1!!!!

By PP1 - Holy Smokes what a week!! Last week was filled with upset victories, games canceled due to sub-zero temperatures, college offers for players, and the solidification of almost each district’s seeds. Cooper has been the most consistent of the 9th region schools and, almost in a quiet manner, simply goes about their business. The Jaguars are the embodiment of team basketball with three players averaging double digit points per game, but no one on their team averages more than 13 points per game. Conner turned some heads with beating Beechwood, but then they lost to Holy Cross. Holy Cross, on the... Read More →
