8th Region Week 8 Review - Collins Stays at #1

By ColonelMike - Week 8 gave us a little more insight into how this season will play out… Simon Kenton beat Grant County by 17 in a District 32 game. Grant hasn’t played Walton-Verona yet, but they are going to have to make up some ground against one of those two if this team – winners of fourteen games already – is to make the region tourney. Walton-Verona beat #14 (per the Bluegrasspreps poll) Campbell County, 54-48, the best win for an 8th region team versus a team from another region this week. Oldham County slammed North Oldham by 15 in a rivalry matchup in District 29. Spencer County... Read More →

5th Region Week 8 Review: Bulldogs Win 2A Classic

By Sportslover32 - 1. John Hardin (21-0): The Bulldogs continue their amazing season by winning all four games this week which included winning the 2A Classic. They beat district opponent Elizabethtown 94-86 at home, they beat Scott in first round 67-56, beat Glasgow 67-40 in semis, and beat Knox Central 83-60 in title game. What a year it has been so far as they are the only team who hasn’t lost yet in the state. They have been remarkable all year and they seem to not be slowing down at all. Alex Matthews was the MVP of the 2A Tournament. 2. Larue County (14-3): The Hawks took care of business this week and... Read More →

14th Region Week 8 Review: Only One Change To The Top 5.

By All State Baseball - Another week in the basketball season has came and gone. We seen a lot of movement in the top 5 this season but this week, we only had one movement within the top 5. With that said, let's take a look back at week 8 in the 14th region. 1) Knott County Central (13-6): After hitting a rough spot during Christmas break, the Patriots have kicked it into another gear and have won 8 streak including last week's two wins. Knott County Central traveled up to Belfry to take on the Pirates. Looking to keep their momentum going and that's exactly what they did with a 58-50 win. The very next day, the... Read More →

4th Region Week 8 Review

By DragonFire - So that was a crazy week. Let's take a deep breath..... 1) Bowling Green (15-3) - 1/15 72-55 W at Christian County, 1/18 61-44 W #12 Warren East, 1/19 45-49 L at #3 Warren Central Previous Rank: 1 This Week: 1/22 vs. #8 Franklin-Simpson, 1/25 vs. #3 Warren Central, 1/26 at #2 Allen County-Scottsville Yes, the Purples lost their first region game of the year, falling for the first time in-region since the region finals last season. With that, they lost a nine game winning streak. Still, they have proven to be the class of the region thus far. Their losses are to BGP ranked teams... Read More →

12th Region Week 8 Review: Shifting Sands

By TDC - Week 8 was yet another exciting one in the 12th Region. There were several games that came down to a last-second shot, some near upsets of state powers by 12th Region teams, and some terrific individual performances. The not-so-shocking revelation for the week: there is a really good team or two in the 45th District who will not be playing in the 12th Region Tournament. Danville looks to be on path for the #1 seed in that District, while Boyle and Lincoln may be battling for #2, and Garrard County will have a say before all is said and done. I would not want to be the team that draws any... Read More →

7th Region Week 8 Review - With David Johnson Back, Trinity Is Looking Strong

By Smallhoops - Congratulations to the Trinity Shamrocks, winners of the 72nd Louisville Invitational Tournament. Seventh Region teams fared well in the LIT, with the semi-finals made up of four Seventh Region teams (Trinity, Waggener, Ballard, and Seneca). In fact, three of those teams (Trinity, Waggener, and Seneca) are all in the 27th district. Looking ahead, it will be a shame that one of those teams will not make it to the Seventh Region tournament. Congratulations also go out to the Christian Academy Centurions, who advanced to the semi-finals of the 2A tournament in Owensboro. The Centurions... Read More →

3rd Region Week 8 Review - Top 3 Starting To Distance Themselves

By ApolloFan98 - With 4 weeks left in the regular season, the top 3 teams in this region are starting to set themselves in stone. While Ohio County is coming on strong, there still seems to be a bit of a gap between 1-3 and 4-12. We'll see if these gaps get wider as the regular season heads toward the finish or if anyone in the middle of the pack can take a step forward and become a real contender. 1. Breckenridge County Tigers (16-2) SAME Kobe Poole continued his great senior season this week, leading the Tigers to their 12th straight win. On Tuesday, Poole scored 16 in Breckenridge's blowout win... Read More →

Football Coaching Changes Around The State

By Colonels_Wear_Blue - We're currently at mid-January, and right now there are only 10 open head coaching jobs on the market. Thus far there have only been 23 jobs that have come open, and that includes completely 2 new jobs showing up on the market in both the varsity program being started at Great Crossing, Scott County's new high school, and in the new head coach for the JV program being formed at Wolfe County. The Wolves are calling their program a "start-up" with the intent of joining KHSAA varsity play for the 2021 season. 23 open jobs is fairly notable in that over the course of the previous four... 8th Region Week 7 Review - A Wild Finish to the Season is Shaping Up

By ColonelMike - 8th Region Week 7 Review – A Wild Finish is Shaping Up OK, we have 8-10 games left in the regular season, but this season quickly became the helter-skelter, topsy-turvey, coin-toss of a region I predicted in the Season Preview. I’m not bragging about my great prediction abilities – no, I think my three cats could have correctly predicted that it was going to take a long time for a true favorite to step up. Of course, that’s assuming we ever will reach that point, with a single favorite. Personally, I think we’ll be heading to New Castle with a wide-open tournament, and plenty... Read More →

1st Region Review Week 7

By silo11 - Things in Region 1 seem to be getting tighter and tighter at the top. McCracken has looked more vulnerable the past couple weeks winning two games by 2 points before finally falling to Graves County. It was a great win for Graves who had just lost to Mayfield. Mayfield needed that victory after falling to Paducah Tilghman in late December. It is a round robin of wins and losses and should make for a great run to the end of the season and into the Region 1 tournament: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower BGP #11 2018-19 record: 12-2 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Mustangs lost... Read More →

Region 10 Week 7 in Review - A Clear #1 Emerges

By mcpapa - Week seven saw the region's top-ranked team put a bit of distance between itself and the rest of the pack, but their district won't be a cakewalk. The inaugural 2A tournament began in earnest, and the All-A starts up this week. Without further ado... 1. Campbell County (13-3, 5-0 region, 2-0 37th District). After a brief hiccup at the end of December, Coach Russell's squad has reeled off five wins in a row, and none have been very close. Last week saw the Camels tame the Cougars of Calvary Christian 95-39 behind 24 and 21 from Reid Jolly and Drew Wilson; with 14 players making it into... Read More →
