3A Notebook: Garrard Scores Early, Holds on Late to Best Top-Seeded Fleming

By gchs_uk9 - Garrard County Proves Not All Four Seeds Created Equal Rarely does a four seed win in the KHSAA football playoffs. Between six classes and small districts, the gap between ones and fours is typically quite wide, making for an opening round long on running clocks and short on drama. That wasn't the case in Flemingsburg on Friday night as fourth seeded Garrard County scored early and held on late to beat first seeded Fleming County 20-14, becoming one of only two four seeds to win a first round game (Butler defeated Ryle in 6A). Playing in dry conditions but on a muddy field, Garrard... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 5th Region Boys Basketball Preview

By Sportslover32 - Basketball season is almost here. The Cardinals of Taylor County won their 3rd straight region title last year. This year, my top 4 teams was the last 4 standing last year. Those teams are John Hardin, Taylor County, Adair County and Larue County. The region has some great individual talent this year, and it should be an exciting season. Preseason 5th Region Rankings 1. John Hardin (23-11): The Bulldogs look to be the favorite in the 5th region this year. They had a good year last year, but this year expectations are even higher. They return a great player in Mickey Pearson, a Saint... Read More →

Class 5A Playoff Preview

By Ram - Region I (District 1 vs. District 2) Region one has traditionally been a solid region that is chock full of some of the best teams in the class. This year is no different as it is absolutely loaded with four of the 8 teams in the region currently residing in the BGP top ten. Even sixth ranked South Warren gets a tough first round game versus #12 Graves County. One would think that #2 Bowling Green would get a cupcake in the opening round, yet they enter the playoffs facing off against rival Owensboro, a team sitting just outside of the top 15. There isn’t a single team in the class that... Read More →

By All State Baseball - (6A) (#1) (D7) Scott County Cardinals v (6A) (#4) (D8) George Rogers Clark Cardinals: The Cardinals, Scott County that is, is looking for their 2nd state title (dating back to 1998 per KHSAA) since 2013. Past several years, Lafayette has been a thorn in Scott County's side, knocking them out of the playoffs. Scott County will open up the 2017 playoffs at home with the Cardinals from Winchester, George Rogers Clark. Scott County comes in 8-2 and have annilated all of their opponents except for Lafayette who they defeated 31-21 earlier in the season. George Rogers Clark comes in 5-5 and... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 4th Region Boys Basketball Preview

By DragonFire - The 14th District Era is alive and well, completing their 16th straight year of dominance a season ago behind their workhorse Bowling Green. The Purples, tired of losing to the team that wins it all, won the whole thing themselves as part of their 4th straight region title run, winning 29 games in a row en route to a 36-2 record and the first basketball state title in the school’s history. The Purples were rarely challenged as they ran their region streak to 48 in a row, with only their two meetings with Greenwood and a comeback win at Franklin-Simpson pushing them into single digit margins... Class 4A Playoff Preview

By DragonFire - Class 4A Region 1 A year ago Region 1 was tabbed as one of the most competitive in the state. Last year entering the playoffs, three teams in the region were rated in the top 5. It is in some respects still quite competitive, so long as you’re talking about below the top team. Franklin-Simpson enters the playoffs as defending region champions and last year’s state runners-up, toting a #5 rating in 4A. The Wildcats started the year rough, getting their doors blown off in the second half by Elizabethtown and getting running clocked by South Warren. But after starting 2-3 (which... Read More →

Class 2A Playoff Preview

By Ram - Region I- District 1 vs. District 2 (Winner Will Host Semi's) Perhaps the biggest compliment you could pay Mayfield during the 2017 season is they were essentially the same team we have been accustomed to seeing. For many teams this would be a death sentence toward their potential playoff hopes, but for the Cardinals it is more of a testament that they can be expected to be right in the thick of the Championship Race. The Cardinals will open their push for another ring with one of Kentucky’s most pleasant surprises, Todd County Central. The Rebels will lose to Mayfield, but still deserve... Read More →

Class 3A Playoff Preview

By Ram - REGION I For the last couple years this region has been almost entirely the domain of Elizabethtown and Caldwell County. This year has continued to see the Panthers and Tigers at the top, but a pair of challengers has emerged in Larue County and Paducah Tilghman, meaning competitive games could arrive earlier in the bracket than in years before. Caldwell County (8-2) had won eight straight before being routed by Mayfield in the season finale. Expect the Tigers to rebound with little trouble against Hart County (2-8). The better matchup pits Union County (8-2) at Larue County (9-1).... Read More →

By thsrocks - Class 6A First Region District 1 vs. District 2: McCracken County (6-4) won the first district with a perfect 4-0 slate. The Eagles earned the right to host District 1 #5 seed Muhlenberg County (3-7). Muhlenberg County’s Mustangs (0-4 in district) averaged 19.8 points per contest while allowing 36.6 points per game. McCracken County’s Mustangs fared much better this season, averaging 32.6 points for versus 28.1 points against. The worst news for Muhlenberg County was allowing 49 points while being shutout by this McCracken County squad on October 20. The Greenville group picked up 43... Read More →

Class 1A Playoff Preview

By Ram - REGION I Since Mayfield move up to 2A, Russellville has been in control of Region 1. This year though, things look very much up in the air. Russellville sits at 6-4 on the year and has no standout wins among those 6 victories. The Panthers should have no problem though in round 1 versus Fort Knox. That should get them a second round game against Campbellsville, who play 0 win Fulton City in round 1. That sets up an interesting second round game. This game has the potential for upset written all over it. These two teams look very similar. It is a very tough call on who to pick here.... Read More →
