3A Notebook: Who is the #3 Team in the Class?

By gchs_uk9 - Breaking Down the Class: Does Anyone want to be Ranked? Coming into the 2016 season most expected Class 3A to be weaker than last year. Yes, expectations are sky high at Belfry while Corbin returned nearly all of its high powered offense. Several teams, though, suffered heavy graduation losses and there were questions surrounding established class powers like Lexington Catholic, Boyle County, Central, Caldwell County, Elizabethtown, Russell, and Paducah Tilghman, among others. What the first three weeks of the season has shown us is that most everyone is struggling to bridge the gap... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (8/29): The Script Flips

By DragonFire - What a difference a week makes. After the top ten from our opening week only had three of nine teams in action win, this week, nine of the ten came out on the winning side of the column. The one exception, was John Hardin, which suffered a head scratching loss to North Hardin. It was just the second time the Trojans have knocked off John Hardin in the last decade, and it came despite being outgained 368-248. Five turnovers were to blame, as well as penalties that wiped out two first quarter touchdowns. The Bulldogs have played a brutal schedule early on in the last few years, and have... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (8-29-16)

By JDEaston - As expected, things heated up quick in class 5A, with five of the top ten teams taking losses. Some of those losses were expected, though there will still be a slight shakeup in the rankings. Fern Creek, Christian County, Highlands, Pulaski County, and Southwestern were all defeated for the first time this season. Highlands was the only real head scratcher, as they lost to an unranked 6A Campbell County team. Week 2 will also prove to be another challenge for several class 5A teams, including class favorite Bowling Green, which faces off with St. Xavier. More on that game and this past week’s... Bluegrasspreps' Football Rankings (8/29)

By Ram - The Top 6 teams in 1A all came away victorious in Week 1, and all six did so in an impressive manner. Pikeville, Russellville, Beechwood, and Raceland all stepped up in class for big wins, meanwhile Hazard and Paintsville each knocked off fellow 1A Top 10 teams. The headliner this week is clearly the 2016 installment of Paintsville versus Pikeville in the Battle of The Country Music Highway. This matchup has become “can’t miss” excitement in recent years. Russellville will be tested against Rex Henderson and the Butler County Bears. Class 1A 1. Pikeville vs. #5 Paintsville 2.... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 8/29- Class 2A Vs. All Ya'll !

By ATLCat - The Bigger They Are... With the season now fully in effect it is becoming very clear that this is going to be an especially talented group of teams near the top of the 2A Ranks. Typically Weeks 0,1,and 2 are chock full of non-district games and matchups between teams from different classes, but this past week was an especially interesting week as many of the top 10 teams in 2A squared up schools that are well more than double their size. Six different Top 10 2A Teams took on a foe that is either hailing from Class 5A or 6A, and the little guys showed very well! The 2A squads went a combined... Read More →

1A Notebook 8/29 - Winners

By Voice of Reason - Class 1A continued its winning roll through upper class matchups in week two. Out of the top ten, only Kentucky Country Day lost a game against an upper class opponent as they fell to 2A #7 Lexington Christian 56-20. The other two top ten losers - Frankfort and Fairview - were defeated by 1A top ten teams. The most impressive win of the week went to #4 Raceland. The Rams got a rare win over their area rival 4A Ashland by a 20-13 score. Even more impressive is the Rams got the win at Ashland. This could be the win that propels the Rams on to that special season Raceland has seemed to be... Read More →

Pike Central 35 Shelby Valley 10

By newarkcatholicfan - I am using the numbers given in the program, be forewarned that two Shelby Valley said the numbers and players names did not match up with the rosters they had. I was also told that the Wildcats were severely beaten up by the injury bug, making this one to be a tough one for Wildcats to stay in for long. Now to the game. #32 Austin Mullins picked up fifteen yards before being hit and tackled by #3 Mason Layne, giving the Hawks a first down just ten minutes into the game. The offense would sputter soon after this and be forced to punt the ball away. The Wildcats would get a... Read More →

Pikeville 30 Letcher County 6

By newarkcatholicfan - The crowd was large but the noise level at times was very library like. Even with the home team the heavy favorite and playing well enough, to show everyone the game was not going to be in doubt for long. Maybe the home crowd knew this was going to be a win and in the 90 plus degree heat, they wanted to save their energy. The Panthers methodically started a drive that would end up going for 17 plays and a total 78 yards to post its first score of the 2016 tackle football season. The drive started with a pass play and then one running play before two straight passes. It would have a fourth... Read More →

Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 08/28/16

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2016 Western Kentucky Power Rankings “ Week 1 Edition" The top story line this week REMAINS the Weather, as lightning, heavy rain and heat indices forced significant delay, push backs and flat out cancellations across our half of the state and beyond. I suppose it is just that time of year that Mother Nature reminds us who is in control on certain nights. But a big shout out to all those (players, coaches, refs, concession stand workers, parents, and just great fans) who braved the weather and still brought you the news as it happened in the West! AROUND THE STATE: ... Read More →
