By Les - 1. South Laurel - The Cardinals participated in the Legacy Nissan Classic this past week and dropped two games - a 52-51 loss to Mercer County and a 76-74 loss to Owen County. How 6-8 senior center Caleb Taylor isn't ranked as one of the top 20 players is crazy. Taylor scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds on 13-of-14 shooting against Owen County while being double-teamed throughout the game. Taylor is currently averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds per game while teammate Jared Grubb is averaging 10 points per game. 2. Clay County - The Tigers have looked good so far during their two... By ATLCat - Cards Winter Migration *In the Tone of One of Those British Nature Documentary Narrators* " Every year the elusive Western Kentucky Mayfield Cardinal gathers together the first week of December. You can tell this bird by it's distinctive bright red crown and black torso or white torso. After a long November, the Cardinal welcomes winter by the most peculiar of migrations. Instead of flying South for the Winter, this pesky bird flies East. A large congregation of bird will always join together, chirping proudly, and together in unison fly just over two hours. It never fails, as if they... Read More →

2015-16 Bluegrasspreps' Girls 16th Region Preview

By Jesse James - 1. East Carter – Most programs go through seasons, from time to time, where they must completely rebuild a given team, but such has not been the case at East Carter under Coach Hagar Easterling, who has never had a losing season during his long tenure there. It is the rare high school program that can lose six players to graduation (three of whom were starters), and receive a spot in the following pre-season Top 20. This year’s version of East Carter is one of those rare teams, having achieved over the last two seasons a school-record two-year combined record of 58-8. While East Carter has... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' 2015-16 2nd Region Basketball Preview

By Ram - The Road to Rupp in the Second Region runs through Hopkinsville. Either Christian County, Hopkinsville, or University Heights has represented the region every year since 2001. Given what Christian County and Hopkinsville have returning, it’s a good bet that streak continues in 2015-16. With the right draw come region tourney time, Trigg County, Madisonville, and Henderson County could make a deep run, but it’s likely to be a repeat of the Eighth District title game in the Second Region championship game. 1. Hopkinsville (27-6) – Teams that graduate nine players from a region title team... Read More →

2015-16 Bluegrasspreps' Girls 2nd Region Preview

By Jesse James - Team Rankings - Rank - Team (Last Year's Result) 1. Henderson County (28-3; State Quarterfinals) - The best remains the best until someone dethrones them or can prove they can handle their full court pressure. They will be looking to make their 4th straight trip to the Sweet 16 on the shoulders of the region's best post player, Alishia Owens. They lose a lot of fire power from last season, but big schools like Henderson County don't rebuild, they reload. 2. Madisonville-North Hopkins (20-10; Region Semifinals) - The Lady Maroons lose only one starter from a year ago but return center... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' 2015-16 9th Region Basketball Preview

By Walter - Last year was another banner year for the 9th region champion. While the Covington Catholic Colonels didn't win a state championship, they made it back to the Sweet 16 State Semi Finals before falling to eventual state champion, Owensboro, by a score of 65-59 in overtime. While this year's region won't feature the star power that we've seen over the past several years, the region champion will once again be a contender to make a deep post season run. Let's get right in to the preseason team rankings. 1. Covington Catholic Colonels Last Season: 31-6 (9th Region Champions, State Semi... Read More →
