Inside the 9th Region (2/1)

By Walter - With less than a month to go before district play starts, the 9th region is still as wide open as it has ever been. Let's take a look at the rankings this week as we review last week's action. 1. Covington Catholic (15-6) In the Colonels only game this week, the escaped Holmes with a 57-49 win behind 14 points from Cole Vonhandorf. While it wasn't pretty, the Colonels showed great balance with Aiden Ruthsatz tallying 12 points and AJ Mayer putting up a stat line of 9 pts, 8 rbs to go a long with 8 pts, 6 rbs from senior Andy Flood. Covcath still has a lot to improve on to separate... Read More →

Inside the 15th Region (2-1-16)

By 15th Region - Overview: The District tournaments are quickly approaching and Lawrence County is still the team everyone is shooting for in the 15th Region. Shelby Valley, Magoffin County and Johnson Central are the front runners to pull the upset, but it would take an outstanding performance. This upcoming week will likely decide district tournament seeding in the 57th through 60th Districts as many key games will be played. Let’s see how the rankings pan out after nine weeks of action. 1. Lawrence County (19-4) – The Bulldogs continue to roll, going 2-1 in Week 9 with their only loss coming to an... Read More →

Region 7 Rankings (2/1/16)

By ball_coach_4 - We have movement again at the top of the rankings, and I expect this type of shift to happen pretty much every week for the rest of the season. There’s a log jam at 2-5, and this was the toughest week to gauge by far in regards to last week’s results. Last week’s rankings are in parentheses (): 1. Male (18-3) (3) The Bulldogs continue their great team play and go 4-0 since the last rankings. They blew out Madison Southern and Southern; and then had tough battles (but wins) with Moore, and Newport at the King of the Bluegrass Showcase. This week the Bulldogs have a solid Collins team,... 8th Region Rankings and Recap 2/1/16

By 8th Region Warrior - The 8th region gets more congested as the year goes on with potential teams that could win this region. It is hard to win (3) games in a row at Roy Winchester gymnasium, but a lot of teams are making the case that they can. Only 3 weeks in the regular season and jockeying for position in some of the districts is still taking place. 1. Owen County-Represented the 8th region well at the All A State tournament. Coach Duvall and his Rebels showed a lot of class all week. Keeping them at the #1 spot this week, but teams are closing the gap on the Rebels. I think we saw some fatigue out... Read More →

3rd Region Rankings and Notebook (2/1/16)

By ApolloFan98 - After seeing most all of the 3rd region teams multiple times, I am going to throw records out the window and rank these teams off the old fashioned eye ball test. It’s nearly impossible to judge most of these teams as they continue to beat each other and follow good wins with bad losses. Here is how they stack up as we head into the last month of the season... 1.Owensboro Catholic(14-6 UP 3) – After this week, the Aces have leap frogged into the #1 spot. They blew out good teams in Hopkinsville(85-65) & Breck County(68-50) and turned a lot of heads in the process. Tim Riley has his... Read More →

2015-16 14th Region Rankings Week 9 (2-1-16)

By All State Baseball - After getting hit with a blizzard that canceled all of the high school games across the state for 2 weeks, the 14th Region was finally able to get games back underway last week. Let’s take a look back and look at the updated rankings list. 1.Perry County Central (15-3): The Commodores remain #1 this week, as they have all season long, after picking up two good wins to pickup from where they left off. The Commodores defeated Lexington powerhouse, Lexington Catholic 67-58 on January 26th and turned around and demolished 15th region’s Betsy Layne 69-34 in the KY Prep Showcase at Jackson... Region 1 Rankings (2/01/16 Week 8)

By silo11 - Remember these rankings will be based on current play and not just the record or one good/bad game. The top three played very well this week showing why they are ranked in the top 3. They are the first tier before the drop off to 4th place and the 2nd tier. Here are the rankings as of 2/01/16. 1. Paducah Tilghman (19-4) The Blue Tornadoes won three games this week. They won a close one to Marshall County as Sayveon McEwen led the way with 23 points. They will have a big game this week as they travel to Graves Co on Feb 2. Tilghman only has 5 games left on the season schedule. If they... Read More →

The Purples have not officially wrapped up the #1 seed for their... Read More →

10th Region Rankings & Weekly Review (1-31-16)

By Randy Parker - A week of good weather allowed for a full slate of games last week, and there were several closely contested battles. These rankings have not significantly changed, but there has been a bit of movement. #1 - Montgomery County (15-8) The Indians started last week with a 62-60 buzzer-beating loss at Scott on Tuesday night. Playing without leading scorer and rebounder Jerryd Jones, Montgomery stayed with the host Eagles the entire way, but could not escape with a victory. Caswell Fuller scored 17 points and Cody Parsley had 15 in the loss. Matt Daniel's team regrouped to get a pair... Read More →

13th Region Rankings Jan. 31 - Feb. 6

By Les - 1. North Laurel (19-2 overall, 8-2 against 13th Region competition) — The Jaguars are playing some pretty darn good basketball as of late. North Laurel’s 61-57 win over No. 3 Clay County this past week thwarted them into the region’s top spot. The play of Peyton Broughton, Brian Gray, Kyle Jeffers, Adam Sizemore, Bryson Asher and Jaret Lipps has been key of late. Broughton scored 28 in North Laurel’s win against Lee County while Jeffers and Gray came up big against Clay County. Sizemore continues to run the point guard position as good as any one in the region while Asher is improving, and... Read More →

13th Region Rankings Feb. 1 - Feb. 7

By Les - 1. Harlan (19-4 overall, 9-2) — The Lady Green Dragons responded well from their little midseason slump by winning six games in a row before losing to Owensboro Catholic in the All “A” Classic State Tournament this past week. 2. North Laurel (15-6, 10-1) — No team in the 13th Region is hotter than Eddie Mahan’s Lady Jaguars. North Laurel has now won 11 games in a row, which includes two wins over Clay County during the past two weeks. They hadn't beaten the Lady Tigers for 11 straight years. North Laurel did have a scare during its 60-52 win over Clay County, but still managed to come... Read More →

2nd Region Update 1/31

By WKY - There has been a lot of action within the top 10 in the past week. There was a lot of movement in the rankings within the top 5. #1 Madisonville-North Hopkins (18-2, 9-0) SAME The only undefeated team left in region play means they are the unanimous #1, at least for right now. They did come very close to their first region loss on Friday night as Hopkins County Central lead most of the game before letting it slip away at the end. They also had what seemed to be an off night against Lyon County in a low-scoring affair where they narrowly escaped with a victory. They still have a tough test... Read More →

15th Region Notebook (1/29/16)

By All State Baseball - With a winter storm hitting KY and cancelling a lot of ball games across the state, several teams were able to play even with some snow on the ground but the 15th region, among several other regions in EKY had to cancel a lot more games than any of the other regions, due to them being in the mountains. Shelby Valley had to wait 12 days (Jan. 15-27) before they could play. East Ridge played but had long delays in their dates/games. Magoffin County was in the same boat as East Ridge. When Shelby Valley returned to action, they are/were participating in the All “A” State Tournament at... Read More →

2015-16 10th Region Notebook (1/29/16)

By All State Baseball - One of the most exciting regions in KY, especially in Central KY, the 10th region, like every other region, was hammered with cancellations after a winter storm poured out it’s “Flurry” in a hurry last couple of weeks, cancelling ball games left and right. The #1 team in the region, Mason County didn’t have a big break like a lot of teams did, in fact, they got to play games on January 13, 19, 21, 27 and 29th, 4 out of 5 of those games on those dates were W’s for the Lady Royals but the lone loss came to #2 Campbell County on January 29th. Lady Royals will look to get back on track next... Read More →

14th Region Notebook (1/28/16)

By All State Baseball - Coaches and kids were disappointed past couple of weeks after a big winterstorm hit Kentucky, cancelling or making coaches reschedule games for a later date. With the 14th region being “In the mountains” a lot of the games that were canceled will more than likely not be made up as district games are need first due to seeding. The 14th Region looks to be a 3 team race between Knott County Central, Leslie County and Breathitt County. Knott Central Lady Patriots have yet to play Breathitt County but have fell to Leslie County earlier in the season. Leslie County has defeated both Knott... Read More →
