Central Hardin 21 Mercer County 7

By newarkcatholicfan - The numbers for Central Hardin was difficult to read so the players given credit for plays in this article could be wrong. First I want to give a big thank you to Mercer County athletic director,Donald Wayne Smith for the pass and to the lady who passed programs out to the crowd. For me this was my first trip to this bowl game. Other than the hard drive on 68 I enjoyed myself. The rain was bad at times, but I was under some roofing so I did not get wet. Now to the game. 6-4 200 Quarterback, Gunnar Gillis got things going with a 16-yard run to the right side just :21 into the game.... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 8-21

By ATLCat - 1. Belfry Pirates (3A, 0-0)- Pirates remained idle in Week 0 but now face a stiff test in 6A Tates Creek. Belfry has been battling the injury bug and the Commodores really tested their Defense in 2015, will Belfry be able to hold strong? 2. Johnson Central Golden Eagles (4A, 0-0)- The Golden Eagles scrimmaged the best of our neighbors to the North (even farther North than Ohio!) but get a whole new animal in their debut taking on powerhouse Capital, WV. 3. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 1-0)- Whiitley County was no match for the Hounds who dominated every facet. This week brings once of the... Read More →

West Jessamine 27 Harrison County 8

By newarkcatholicfan - Friday night could not have been more beautiful for West Jess as they equaled their 2015 win total by whipping a very game Harrison County team,27-8. W-Jess scored 20 unanswered points and was never threatened afterwards. Just :59 seconds into this on the West defense showed that they were ready, when Trajan Keaton blasted Maliek Powell, with the result being a 2 yard loss. :45 later it would be another big play for W-Jess, when Allen Horn forced a fumble by TC Abbott and he, Horn recovered the fumble. Elijah Moore got the W-Jess offense going with a fine 14 yard gain, that could have... Read More →

East Jessamine 20 Elizabethtown 15

By newarkcatholicfan - First I want t o say thanks to Mark Miracle for the pass.2nd I want a speedy recovery to #4, Justin McIntire. 3RD thanks to the guys in the press box, for the rosters. Talk had Elizabethtown has a big favorite to win this game, but someone forgot to tell that to East Jessamine because not only did they play like they did not know this, they ended up winning the game. The Panthers defense got a nice play from,Dillon Swank who got to Justin McIntire and held him to no gain, with 10:25 left in the opening period. On the same drive Kyle Gann used a nice spin move to break a tackle and pick... Read More →

Class 5A Season Preview

By JDEaston - Some things seem to stay the same, that can be said about class 5A’s team to beat, the Bowling Green Purples. The rest of the top ten includes traditional powers, along with some teams that return a solid nucleus from the prior season. I have a feeling it will be an exciting season for 5A football as there are still a lot of unknowns in this class, with some very solid teams fighting it out for a chance to dethrone the Purples. Will Highlands get a chance to dance with the Purples this year, will N. Laurel continue to surprise and pull off a major upset? Time will tell, but I believe 5A will... Read More →

By Ram - The 2016 Kentucky High School Football season is once again upon us, and with it the rite of passage that signifies the moment that any blue-blooded follower of High School Football officially turns the calendar from Summer to Fall. The releasing of the inaugural rankings. In Class 1A we awake to a new day and a powerhouse of yester year restored at the top. Pikeville’s journey to the catbird seat of 1A Football took decades to come full circle, but Coach MacNamee’s Maroon Platoon will be in no hurry to relinquish despite significant losses. Out West, Russellville has been one of those... Read More →

Raceland 35 Bath County 0 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - Raceland cam out and quickly showed Ram Nation that they are going to be a pain in the butt for any team on their schedule. They passed the ball well enough to open up a very potent looking running game. They also I.M.O. had the best skill player I watched this weekend. he wore #1 one and seemed to be able to do everything he was asked to do. Raceland opened the scoring up on a forty one yard spring by #33, who looked as quick as a water bug as he sprinted down the field. The point after by #60 made this a, 7-0 game. With 4:17 left in the opening quarter a #10 to #84 completion was... Read More →

Russell 33 Rowan County 6 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - Unofficial total yardage tells the story in this one. Russell using the run and some passing totals 357 yards, while Rowan County ran a total of 26 plays, with 24 being runs had a total of 19 yards. I believe this is one of those games where the score does not show how far apart these two programs are, at this point in time. I also think most expected this one to be very much like it turned out to be, but I do not think many thought it would be as it was. Just :17 into this one Russell gave the ball to one of their stud backs #4, who used some nice blocking to power for a seven yard... Read More →

East Carter 15 Lewis County 15 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - This turned out to be a game if you were able to take away two plays t would have been very one side, but as you all know that is not allowed. East Carter might not have looked like a state contender in this one but they did look like a team, that could be as improved as any team in the area. On the opening kickoff #24 for East Carter muffed the kick but righted the ship as he sailed to a return to the forty seven that mounted to a 25 yard return. #21 from East Carter, who I thought was the best offensive player on the field, shook off the tackle of big #74 to pick up a first down,... West Carter 0 Greenup County 0 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - This turned out to be one team constantly shooting themselves in the foot and the other team always make the other pay for their mistakes. This was game two this weekend and it was a defensive battle from start to finish. Greenup would be the team to shoot themselves and thanks to a very stout defense West Carter always made them pay for it, by never giving up another big play, after the mistake. The first quarter was one nice play after the other, with one of the bigger ones being at the 7:37 mark. Richard McGlone stopped Cade Warnock for a short loss. Quarter number two was much... Fleming County 35 Nicholas County 7 (Scrimmage)

By newarkcatholicfan - This turned out to be a case of bigger is not always better. Nicholas County had some big hogs on their line, with all looking mean and strong. For Fleming the line was much smaller and maybe did not have that passed the looks feature, we all look for all to often. The defense for Fleming looked to have a sack on quarterback, Isaac Fryman by Zach Alexander but an off sides call negated the sack, with 11:34 left in the opening stanza. The Panthers defense gave up only seven yards on this drive as they had set the tone for what was about to come. Josh Crump scrambled to his right and... Read More →
