Class 4A Notebook (9/19): It's All About Tiers

By DragonFire - We’re halfway through the 2016 regular season. Can you believe that? Isn’t that depressing? But depression aside, to my eyes, we have seen some definitive tiers emerge in 4A. The true monsters of the class seem to shuffle around a bit in the top 5, but they all stay in the top five. John Hardin crashed the party early on, and perhaps may yet do so again in the future, but for now, they occupy the stalking horse position. But those top five, you have to really feel like one of them is going to be your state champion. You have Johnson Central and their powerful run game, tearing up... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 9/19- Here Comes DeSales

By ATLCat - Colts Catching Up When teams like Mayfield and Central have been able to crush schools from other classifications with a number next to their name it has made it somewhat easy to see DeSales fade from the foreground. The Colts took an early season loss to a solid 6A Ballard squad and their early season conquests over some of 6A's more "middle of the pack" squads really didn't raise eyebrows. DeSales though sure put themselves on notice Friday by handling a Top 5 ranked 5A Fern Creek squad in rather convincing fashion. DeSales has overcame some early season bumps and bruises and just... Bluegrassprep's Football Rankings (9/19)

By Ram - Class 1A The two teams who played for the Class 1A State Title in 2015 had tough draws this Friday as Beechwood and Pikeville lost by a combined score of 100-23 to two very good larger classification foes. The two remain in the Top 5, but as a result Paintsville and Raceland both see their number decrease by one behind incumbent top-ranked Russellville. District play begins for some of the Top 10 teams with the most notable match-up being #6 Nicholas County putting their undefeated record on the line against Bishop Brossart. Beechwood and Fairview each draw Top 10 teams from Class 2A. ... Read More →

BluegrassPreps - Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 09/18/16

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2016 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 4 Edition Concerning the top story line for this week, lightning made its presence felt across the state delaying and prematurely canceling games. While I understand the rule, I honestly feel it is time to revisit this rule to see if adjustments could be made. I am safety first as much as the next guy, but if prevailing technical science/Doppler radar can intervene with "common sense", I feel SOME modification to the rule could pay off with MANY resumptions of games that are currently canceled in a SAFE manner or played in Scott... 3A Notebook: Easy as A,B,C

By gchs_uk9 - Adair, Bardstown, and Casey Proving Winning is Easy as A,B,C Five schools in Class 3A have made it to mid-September without a loss. Two of those were no surprise, as #1 Belfry and #2 Corbin have earned their preseason rankings by knocking off a number of quality teams from multiple classes. The three other undefeateds, however, may have caught a few by surprise. Adair County, Bardstown, and Casey County have combined to start the season 13-0 and there is potential for more wins and postseason success as the year progresses. Adair County has begun the last two seasons with long... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 9-17

1A Notebook 9/13 - Who are the Contenders?

By Voice of Reason - We are approaching the midpoint in the season. The teams have been tested by tough competition. Have we seen enough to have this pretty well figured out? In years past it was often pretty clear who the top 3 or 4 teams were in 1A. This class has not been deep in contenders. However, coming into this season, it looked more wide open than ever. Some of the usual contenders lost a lot of key players and that made it look like as many as 8 or 9 teams may be title contenders. Now with 4 weeks under our belts, let's take a look at our rankings and see what we have. 1. Russellville - The Panthers... Read More →

Trinity – (4-0) The Rocks pulled off a close one against #2 Male and hold on to the top spot. The Bulldogs coaching staff did their homework scouting Trinity noting the rocks susceptibility in the long pass and capitalized on this with four long TD passes. However, the Rocks came from behind and took the lead late in the fourth quarter for the win. Next week the Rocks visit unbeaten PRP. 2. Male – (3-1) The Bulldogs lost but it was a... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (9/13): The Once and Future #1

By DragonFire - A year ago, Johnson Central was our preseason #1 team, and held that position for the first nine weeks. For nine weeks we had them pegged as the class favorites – then came Belfry. That made clear a truth that we had long denied, that South was the clear class of 4A, and then they backed it up in the state title game. But that was last year. This year, Johnson Central is on a similar, but even more impressive track. After opening with a victory over Capital High, the #2 ranked team in West Virginia, they doubled up Lexington Catholic 54-7, before notching another out of state victory... Read More →

5A Notebook Week 4 (9/12/16)

By JDEaston - There was only one matchup between 5A top ten teams this past week, as Bowling Green traveled to Owensboro to face the former 5A #2 Red Devils. This one ended in another lopsided win in favor of the Purples. The rest of the 5A top ten headed outside of their class to face off against the rest of the state. In general, the rest of the class had a pretty good weekend, with only Greenwood and Highlands taking losses, which were to ranked teams as well. This week should be interesting as well, as 6 of the 5A top ten teams take on ranked teams from several other classes throughout the state. It... Read More →

Bluegrassprep's Football Rankings (9/12)

By Ram - The Class 1A has taken shape and the majority of the names are familiar. You will see little movement in the Top 5 after all the teams held serve this week with victories. The back half of the Top 5 is a different story all together and has been a revolving door of teams. Hazard still remains at the #6 spot despite a loss, while both Holy Cross and Fairview hold on to the Top 10 despite also tasting defeat. This week expect those Top 5 teams to be put to the test with Beechwood, Raceland, and Pikeville drawing very difficult opponents. Class 1A 1. Russellville at 2A Todd County Central... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 9/12- Thoughts Following "Seperation Friday"

By ATLCat - It is no secret at this point that Class 2A appears to be one of the State's Strongest classifications pound per pound this season. The early season success of the class playing up against larger class schools has been well documented and as Non-District play begins to wear down we continue to see the prowess of the class shine through. This past week though finally began to give us clarity in terms of how the pecking order of this class appears. The Champs Look Like the Champs For all of Class 2A's successes on the early season "playing up" the one thing that they had not been able to... Read More →
