13th Region Week 9 Review

By Les - 1. South Laurel (21-2 overall, 13-0 vs. 13th Region opponents) The Cardinals are winners of five straight, and remain the only team in the 13th Region to be unbeaten against regional teams. South Laurel picked up a big 21-point win at home against Corbin before surviving a scare at home against Middlesboro before winning, 70-62. The trio of JJ Ramey, Matt Cromer and Brett Norvell have been hard to contain as of late while the play of Matthew Dalton, Micah Anders and Alex Hostettler has been key to the Cardinals’ success, too. 2. Corbin (14-5, 9-4) The power ratings might not have the... Read More →

16th Region Week 9 Review: Is Elliott coming back to the Field?

By Carson Palmer - This past week may have provided some hope for the teams chasing Elliott County for the 16th Region crown. The Lions survived at Morgan County and then lost 69-54 to Danville in the state All A Classic. Is it just the ordinary January grind taking a toll or could someone make this region a lot more interesting? This week is HUGE in the 62nd District seeding as Morgan County, East Carter, and West Carter battle it out for the 2-4 seed in this ultra-competitive district. Let's take a look at this week's rankings. 1. ELLIOTT COUNTY (16-3) The Lions needed some late free throws from senior... Read More →

9th Region Week 9 Review: Movement in the middle of the pack as seeding tightens up.

By PP1 - The top four teams are the same as last week. There is a lot of movement between teams 8-18. District Tournament week is only about three and a half weeks away and it is looking to be exciting. Beechwood has the chance to move up if they can defend their home against Covington Catholic on Friday. The 35th District may have gotten more competitive as Holmes seems to be playing better. The 34th District is also looking to be more competitive as Dixie Heights is gaining some momentum. Even with the weak record, Dixie has the athletes to beat both St. Henry and Lloyd Memorial. Lloyd has a... Read More →

7th Region Week 9 Review: Finishing the Regular Season Strong

By Smallhoops - This week saw top-ranked Trinity lose to Henry Clay early in the week but bounce back with two nice wins. Waggener continued to win, and stays at no. 2. Ballard, Seneca, and Central were undefeated this week. With three weeks left in the regular season, things are shaping up for a fun post-season in the Seventh Region. But there is much basketball still to play before we get to the post-season. I spent some time this week focusing on the rest of the regular season, and tried to establish a reasonable goal for each team for the rest of the regular season. I wish everyone good luck in... 12th Region Week 9 Review: Breakouts and Breakdowns

By TDC - Just when it appeared that the dust was settling in the Region and the rankings were solidifying, Week 9 happened. We had different types of breakouts – flu in Jessamine County, three-point shooting in Mercer and Lincoln Counties – along with another week where some potential chinks in the armor were revealed with the Region #1 team, and unfortunately new injuries popped up that could have a big impact going forward. Cumulatively, these things not only shook up the rankings a bit this week but may represent a pivot in the direction this Region is headed. Week 10 is a big one for a lot of... Read More →

The Purples faced some adversity with the departure of senior Davion Dice, but shot 52.6% in a win over Franklin-Simpson before clamping down defensively in holding Warren Central and Allen County-Scottsville... By mcpapa - The 10th's number 1 took a slight tumble last week in a tough road contest; while #2 looks to be close to tournament form once again.
