By Les - 1. Knox Central (13-1 overall, 4-0 vs. 13th Region competition) The Panthers remain atop the 13th Region rankings and continue to show they’re one of the best teams int he state after winning their sixth game in a row, a 71-47 road win over Pineville, despite not having the services of senior guard, and leading scorer, Markelle Turner, who is day-to-day after tweaking his knee last week. Knox Central will be tested early and often this week with four games (Barbourville, at Mercer County, Bell County and Tates Creek), so a healthy Turner would be huge with the games ahead. BluegrassPreps.com 2nd Region Week 6 Review & Rankings

By silo11 - This is the weakest overall region 2 has been in quite some time. Usually at least 2 teams are either in the state top 20 rankings, or close to. Most of the top they are in the top 10. This year only Christian County has been ranked and they will most likely drop out after this week. While District 8 is still a top the region, other Western Kentucky regions have shown they are better. Nothing has changed much within the region, but a number 1 vs number 2 is this week as Christian County goes to UHA. This matchup pits two of the state’s top players in Ware and Tandy. Should be a great... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 6th Region Weekly Rankings (01/08/2018)

By coachlee - This past week was just supposed to be a tune up week for many teams with predictable outcomes. The players had to adjust being back in school after playing their most recent games during the Holiday break. However, there were several fireworks that went off resulting with a few surprises. This past week has further opened up what already was a pretty wide open race in the 6th. 1. Fern Creek (12-3): For one week in December (16th-23rd) Fern Creek looked as if they would be able to run through the region and perhaps the state much like they did last season when they won over 20 games in... By Sportslover32 - 1. John Hardin (13-3): John had a home blowout win, and then they lost a game in the Mustang Madness. They beat Meade County 90-62 and lost to Mayfield in the Mustang Madness 71-64. John was without Malik Wright in the loss versus Mayfield. Wright will be out another game due to an ejection. Larue County (13-1): The Hawks have a 7-game winning streak, after winning both games this week. They won two road games... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 1st Region Week 6 in Review & Rankings

By silo11 - BluegrassPreps.com 1st Region Boys Basketball Review Week 5 A few things we have learned about Region 1 teams. The top 2 teams are 2 of the best in the state. Mayfield and Paducah Tilghman can play with almost anyone in the state and are probably the two best teams in Western Kentucky. It’s been a long time since Region 1 could make that claim. The other things we learned, Region 1 teams don’t play well in Holiday tournaments (with a few exceptions). Here are the rankings for the new year! 1. Paducah Tilghman – Coach Roderick Thomas 2017-18 record:13-3 Weeks record: 5-1 Last... Read More →

The Dragons visited Barren County, the de facto #2 team in the region by that point, and put a running clock on the Trojans. It was their largest win in the series in six years, and their largest win at Barren County since the state... Read More →

A brief history of the Louisville Invitational Tournament

By Smallhoops - The 71st edition of the Louisville Invitational Tournament starts Monday at Valley High School. Held annually since 1948, the LIT is Kentucky’s oldest regular season high school basketball tournament and has evolved into a true city championship for teams in the Sixth and Seventh Regions. The LIT was started by Louisville high schools because of a dispute with the All-Kentucky Conference, a state-wide conference that initially was made up of 16 of the largest high schools in Kentucky. Male, Manual and St. Xavier, the three public and parochial high schools then located in Louisville,... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps.com 2017 - Inside the 8th Region - 1-4-18

By ColonelMike - First off, many, many thanks to everyone - to Ru, True Blue and Gold, and all of you for your patience in awaiting this week's update. As some of you know, I've been struggling with some health issues that have resulted in my having to deal with rather intense pain at times. Over the holidays, this worsened to the point where the pain was a 24/7 thing, and I simply couldn't concentrate on what I was writing. I was able to do a couple of broadcasts earlier this week, but came home from both so exhausted and in so much pain I wasn't able to draft the update. Anyway, I'm doing a bit... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 3rd Region Rankings 1/2/18

By ApolloFan98 - With the first half of the season in the books, the 9th district teams look to be the toughest in the region. Owensboro has established themselves as the mid season favorite with their inside out game and swarming full court defense. Daviess County has proven to be tough as nails early on, and should be in the mix until the very end. Apollo and Owensboro Catholic both have the potential to make runs at a championship but have a lot of work to do before then. Outside the city of Owensboro, Meade County again looks to have itself in position for another run into the tournament. Can anyone... Read More →
