5th Region Tournament Preview

By Sportslover32 - The 5th Region Tournament is here, and it looks to be an exciting Tournament this year. Hart County is hosting Region this year. There are two teams who are ranked in the top 10 of the state that will be playing in the 5th Region Tournament. By Saturday night we will know who will be representing the 5th Region at Rupp Arena. 1. John Hardin (32-0): The Bulldogs won the 17th district this last week as they remain undefeated. They beat North Hardin 82-54, and then beat Central Hardin 63-48 in the district championship. What a magical season it has been so far, but they still have more work... Read More →

9th Region Tournament Preview

By PP1 - It’s a bitter sweet time for me. It’s sweet because I get to go to NKU and watch a very competitive tournament; however, it is bitter because I must wait till November to sit in a High School Gymnasium and watch a basketball game. This past week as I watched district semis and finals games while sitting in old wooden bleachers and snacking on the concession du’ jour I was constantly reminded why I love high school basketball. It started on Monday when I saw the Villa Madonna Vikings defeat the favored Ludlow Panthers and continued Tuesday as Beechwood survived an upset bid from the... Read More →

Seventh Region Tournament Preview

By Smallhoops - The eight teams we thought would make it to the Seventh Region tournament have made it, and it is a familiar bunch. Six of the teams (St. X, Ballard, Trinity, Male, Central and Manual) have played in the Seventh Region tournament every year since the Sixth and Seventh Regions were realigned prior to the 2011-12 season. Eastern has been every year but one year since then, and this is Waggener’s fourth appearance in those seven years. One thing that tells me is that the teams that are routinely the best in the Seventh Region are pretty evenly distributed among the four districts. That... Read More →

12th Region Tournament Preview

By TDC - It’s Region Tournament week, time for prognostications sure to go wrong. The only predictable thing with this Region Tournament, much like the regular season and District play, is the unpredictability of the outcome. Below is a ranking and preview of the teams in the tournament along with some likely inaccurate predictions. 1. Danville (27-5): Despite dropping the District Championship game to Lincoln County, the Admirals went 17-2 in the Region this year and should be considered the tournament favorite. The Admirals are prone to occasional scoring droughts which are often self-inflicted... Read More →

14th Region Tournament Preview

By All State Baseball - For a lot of teams, the 2018/19 basketball season is over but their are still remaining a few survivors. Let's take a look at the 2018/19 14th Region Tournament and the final rankings for 2018/19. Knott County Central (22-9): The Patriots were the preseason favorite to win the 14th regional championship this season. They started out at #1 in the preseason rankings and didn't fall no further than #2 throughout the entire season. Knott County Central came up short in the 14th regional championship game last season, falling to Estill County 44-41. The Patriots have wanted a rematch with the... Read More →

8th Region Week 12 in Review: Walton-Verona and Collins remain 1-2

By ColonelMike - 8th Region Week 12 Review – Walton – Collins Still 1-2 Amazingly, the end of the season has already arrived. District tournament play begins this week, and in a few short weeks, only one team will be left standing, holding high a trophy at midcourt at Rupp Arena. In between is game after game after game. Fatigue, stress, adrenaline, more fatigue, guts, sweat, more sweat, still more sweat, halftime speeches, coaching adjustments, mental tests, emotional outbursts, and exhaustion. But – as Manfred Mann sang in his hit song, “Blinded by the Light”: “But mama, that’s where the fun... Read More →

15th Region Regular Season Review - District Tournament Preview - Awards

By 15th Region - 15th Region Overview: The region has been controlled by four teams all season and it would be a shock if one of those did not make it to Rupp Arena this March. Two time defending champion Pikeville, Johnson Central who has been to seven consecutive regional title games, a talented Paintsville squad and Shelby Valley who has shown consistent dominance throughout the season all have legitimate chances to punch their ticket at the EXPO if they can get out of districts. Aside from the big four, there are many other story lines that will take place in the district tournaments this week and there... Read More →

11th Region Week Final Regular Season Review and Postseason Preview

By mooremiller31 - A chink in the armor? Is it possible that the previous untouchable might have opened the door this week for some of the contenders? Another regular season has come and gone in the BEST region in the state of Kentucky, the mighty 11th!! All year long it seemed as if the region was an open and shut case but maybe just maybe that isn't the case anymore. One thing is for sure the postseason is always special in the 11th and this year should be no different. TEAM RANKINGS 1. Scott County (28-2) - The week started of about as normal as it has all year for the Cardinals as they disposed of... Read More →

9th Region Final Rankings and District Tournament Preview

By PP1 - As my rookie year comes to a close, I hope everyone has enjoyed my weekly articles. It’s funny when I look back and read my regional preview, then compared it to how the season played out. I am looking forward to seeing some games this week and will make a point of watching Ludlow and Villa Madonna play Monday. The Panthers and Vikings are the only teams that I have not seen play this year (I don’t count Covington Latin) and look forward to catching this one. If any other members will be in attendance, please come shake my hand. There are too many amazing games going on Tuesday night. I... Read More →

10th Region Week 12 in Review; District tournament Preview

By mcpapa - The regular season is now a thing of the past. It's time for the 37th, 38th, 39th and 40th Districts to get the postseason underway. Let's take a quick look back at the final week of the regular season and look ahead to the four district tournaments. 1. Campbell County (24-4, 10-0 region, 3-0 37th District). The Camels ended the regular season on an 11-game win streak, coasting by Boon County and Ryle on the road in last week's action. Reid Jolly and Drew Wilson combined for 57 points; although shooting an uncharacteristic 2-13 from distance against Boone; then poured in another 46 at... Read More →

7th Region Week 12 Review, Team and Player Rankings, and District Tournament Previews

By Smallhoops - Another regular season is in the books, and it was another great year in the Seventh Region. Trinity, led by KABC Seventh Region Player of the Year David Johnson, had another outstanding season and ends the regular season where it started, at the top of the rankings. Traditional power Ballard also had another solid season, although it heads into the post-season with perhaps more questions than usual. But the biggest news in the Seventh Region concerns the teams who may challenge those two this post-season. The Waggener Wildcats, coached by Seventh Region Coach of the Year Bryan O’Neill,...
