Intra-District Playoffs - Great work Commissioner Tackett

By theguru - I can tell from reading BGP most of you disagree with my sentiment here and stance on Commissioner Tackett and I think you are all wrong. I believe he is the 'adult in the room' and he did great work here. I believe the vast majority of us Kentucky High School Football fans agree too many teams get in the playoffs in each class. Additionally, we fans are all over the place on the number of classes we should have in Kentucky but six is certainly at the extreme high end in a state with only 222 schools playing football. Doing some "simple math" here, when you combine too many teams... Read More →

8th Region Week 10 in Review - Oh My Gosh

By ColonelMike - 8th Region Week 10 Review: Oh My Gosh Have you ever heard of “diagnosis by exception”? This term is used to describe situations where doctors have to diagnose an illness or condition by methodically eliminating numerous other diagnoses, each more likely than the actual diagnosis. Eventually, after multiple labs, imaging, and tests, the doctors eliminate all the likely diagnoses and land upon the correct diagnosis. This year, that looks like how we’re going to ultimately choose the 8th region favorite. And I have a feeling, with just two weeks left in the regular season, that we... Read More →

2nd Region Week 10 Review

By silo11 - Biggest game this past week in region 2 was between Hopkinsville and Christian County. This was the first year in quite some time that this game wasn’t for who would be the number one seed in District 8 and a favorite to win region 2. This year, the second seed is up for grabs and neither are favored to go to Rupp Arena. Madisonville and UHA both still look to be on a collision for the Region 2 title Here are this week’s rankings: 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#5 2018-19 record: 22-4 Week’s Record: 1-1 All “A” Classic Champions University Heights played... Read More →

10th Region Week 10 in Review - Rounding the Corner and Heading for Home

By mcpapa - The weather reared its ugly head last week, causing a few cancellations with not enough time in the season for rescheduling. Our number one still holds the top spot; and not a lot has changed from top to bottom. 1. Campbell County (18-4, 9-0 region, 3-0 37th District). Campbell has now won 10 of 11; the only hiccup being a road loss at Walton-Verona. In fact, the Camels have lost three in-state games by a total of just nine points. Two of last week's three contests were cakewalks - a 32-point thumping of Harrison County and a 62-point demolition of Bracken County at home. Reid Jolly... Read More →

6th Region Week 10 Review

By SportsLife - 1. Butler (16-7): After splitting back-to-back overtime games, Butler was idle in Week 10. Both Maurice Tolley and Willard Minter are averaging double figures in scoring for the Bears. Butler has won three of its last five games. 2. Bullitt Central (16-9): Bullitt Central suffered a lopsided loss to Christian Academy-Louisville but bounced back to defeat Fairdale. As part of a balanced offensive attack, Jacob Mann, Aiden Terry, Chandler Ocasio and Tyler Tatum are averaging double figures in scoring for the Cougars. 3. Jeffersontown (14-10): Jeffersontown dismantled Whitefield Academy... Read More →

3rd Region Week 10 Review - Devils Emerge as the Favorite

By ApolloFan98 - Owensboro emerged from Breckenridge County High School on Tuesday night as the favorite to win the 3rd Region. Its a position they have been in a few times since winning the state title in 2015, but have failed to make it out of the 9th district tournament in each of those years. With only 2 weeks left in the regular season, it looks like there is Owensboro, with a slight drop off to Catholic and Breckenridge and then a huge drop off to everyone else in the region. 1. Owensboro Red Devils (15-7) UP 1 Owensboro moved to 11-0 inside the 3rd region and 5-0 inside the 9th district with... Read More →

13th Region Week 10 Review

By Les - 1. South Laurel (22-2 overall, 14-0 overall) The Cardinals continue roll. South Laurel solidified its No. 1 ranking in the 13th Region by upending rival North Laurel on the road Friday, 59-43. Jeff Davis’ squad continues to play solid defense and has now won six games in a row and 22 of its last 23 games. 2. North Laurel (16-9, 5-4) The Jaguars had a setback, losing to rival South Laurel last week, 59-43, but they are still playing pretty good basketball. Brad Sizemore’s squad will try to get back on track this week with games against Garrard County and Corbin. 3. Knox Central... Read More →

9th Region Week 10 Review: 17 of 20 teams move, including #1!!!!

By PP1 - Holy Smokes what a week!! Last week was filled with upset victories, games canceled due to sub-zero temperatures, college offers for players, and the solidification of almost each district’s seeds. Cooper has been the most consistent of the 9th region schools and, almost in a quiet manner, simply goes about their business. The Jaguars are the embodiment of team basketball with three players averaging double digit points per game, but no one on their team averages more than 13 points per game. Conner turned some heads with beating Beechwood, but then they lost to Holy Cross. Holy Cross, on the... Read More →

These are just a few of the headlines after ten weeks of play. Rankings and reviews are as follows: Rankings (overall record): 1. 16th Region Week 10 Review: Busy Week Ahead

By Carson Palmer - Every team but one will play at least three games this week as teams get ready for the postseason. Elliott County and Rowan County have been 1-2 most of the season but the hottest team in the region is Boyd County. The Lions have reeled off seven straight wins in the past two weeks. Let's take a look at this week's rankings: 1. ELLIOTT COUNTY (17-3) The Lions remained unbeaten in 16th Region play with a district win over West Carter. Tanner Dickerson and Gage Evans have been consistent players to complement Korbin Spencer all season. Eighth grader Collin Porter has been steady off the... Read More →

1st Region Week 10 Review

By silo11 - Not a lot of movement this week in the standings because not a lot of big games were played. What we did learn this week is there is a clear confirmation of the separation between the top three teams and the rest of the region. However that doesn’t eliminate the possibility of upsets taking place as Marshall County has played everyone tough as has Murray. Lots of big district games this week that will affect the seeding going into the tournaments. Should be an exciting week of Region 1 basketball. Here is this weeks rankings: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower BGP #9... Read More →

7th Region Week 10 Review: Let's Not Crown Trinity Quite Yet

By Smallhoops - The Male Bulldogs are the Seventh Region team of the week. The Bulldogs got my attention when they beat Collins early in the week by a 69-46 margin and then, in a classic Seventh Region basketball game, took down the Trinity Shamrocks 77-74 in 3 overtimes. Certainly, Male seems to be playing its best basketball as the post-season approaches. So does Ballard. After winning two games on the same night earlier in the week, Ballard beat Madison Central and Isaiah Cozart 80-69 on Friday night. Waggener also keeps winning, and had a nice win over Seneca this week. Central has only lost 4... Read More →

11th Region Week 10 Review

By mooremiller31 - A big matchup between the top 2 teams in the region headlined the past week in the 11th Region. Some other top tier teams made statements and District tournament seeds are starting to round into form. At this point its starting to seem like everyone is playing for 2nd Place. Lets get into it! TEAM RANKINGS 1. Scott County (25-1) - The Cardinals continue to roll through not only the 11th Region but the entire state of Kentucky. Facing possibly their toughest in state test in a month the Cardinals did not disappoint as they handled Henry Clay by 21 points. The game was really never in... Read More →

5th Region Week 10 Review: Bulldogs Dominate 4th Region Favorite

By Sportslover32 - 1. John Hardin (25-0): The Bulldogs historic season continues as they won both games again this week. They beat district foe Elizabethtown 76-74 on the road in a dandy, and beat Bowling Green 86-59 at home. Bulldogs survived another scare as the Etown game came down to the wire but like every time this season they found a way. They than blew out 4th region favorite Bowling Green which was a nice statement win. Looking at the schedule there is a great shot they will be 30-0 going into postseason play. In the win over Elizabethtown freshman Devon Rogers led them with 18 points. 2. Central... Read More →

12th Region Week 10 Review: The Gap is Closing

By TDC - Week 10 reminded us of just how wide open the 12th Region is. While Danville and Wayne County continue to maintain a consistent hold on the top two spots, teams from #3 to #12 have defeated teams ahead of them in the rankings and most have shown the potential to beat either one of the top two on any given night. The gap between the top two teams and the next ten teams below them seems to be closing. Despite it being a weekly statement, it bears repeating: the 45th District Tournament is going to be epic. It is also going to end two good team’s seasons early. Top 12 teams who are … ... Read More →
