By Smallhoops - Basketball season finally arrived, and the first week of action in the Seventh Region saw Collegiate and St. Francis combine to go 5-0 while Ballard remains winless. But I think Ballard will be fine. While Ballard lost the only game they played, it was a close loss to 11th region power Scott County in a great matchup you usually don’t see the first week of the season. And this week presents another great matchup when Trinity plays hosts to the Fern Creek Tigers on Saturday night. Trinity went 3-0 for the week and starts atop this week’s rankings. In fact, the top three teams remain... Read More →

3A Notebook: 25 Years Later Boyle and Corbin Again Set to "Flat Get After It"

By gchs_uk9 - REBELS AND REDHOUNDS WIN CLOSE SEMIFINAL MATCHUPS When Chuck Smith came to Boyle County from Campbellsville in 1992, he inherited a program that had gone 7-34 over their last four seasons. Boyle hadn't produced a winning record since going 7-3 in 1986. The Rebels hadn't played in a playoff game since losing to Corbin in 1982. Success came quickly for Smith, relative to Boyle's past, as they shocked Harrodsburg in their opening game on the way to a 7-4 record and their first playoff appearance in a decade. Twenty-five years later, Boyle County is again coached by Chuck Smith (after a... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 2nd Region Boys Basketball Preview

By silo11 - Bluegrasspreps.com 2nd Region Boys Basketball Preview Region 1 teams surprised many people in the sweet sixteen the past few years, Calloway County in 2015 and Murray in 2016. This year there are a couple teams that truly believe they make a bang at the Sweet Sixteen in 2017 as well. Region 1 was hit hard by graduation this offseason. 18 of the top 30 scorers in the region were seniors and have moved on. Some of the best teams last year were hit particularly hard and will have a much more difficult time repeating last year’s success, while some of the teams that were mediocre the past few... By MidwestUnited - Will the 9th Region see a repeat performance from the Cooper Jaguars in March? Or will the Colonels of Covington Catholic use a deep, talented roster to avenge last season’s loss to Cooper in the regional championship game and earn a trip to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2015? Those are the two questions many 9th Region fans are asking as the 2017-18 season approaches, as Cooper and CovCath appear to be the overwhelming favorites. Cooper (31-5 last season) returns three starters from its state runner-up squad, including talented senior guard Adam Kunkel (16.3 points per game). The... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 16th Region Boys Basketball Preview

By 24Bricks - Preseason 16th Region Basketball Rankings It may be cliché, but 16th Region Basketball appears wide open at the season’s onset. The team rankings from top to bottom are far from set, as they are dependent upon game experience and play of younger, untested players. As the season starts, teams are adjusting to integration of football players, addition of freshman, transfers of key players, unfortunate injuries, mass exodus via graduation, and new coaches. With team schedules full of local games preceding district and regional matchups, a clearer picture should develop by the Christmas... Read More →

A lot of teams were hit pretty hard by graduation this offseason. There are quite a few teams that will be starting over and others that are rising to the top.
