2nd Region Week 1 Review

By silo11 - This is not the 2nd region we are used to seeing here in Kentucky. With the exception of UHA, the top teams in the region have all taken significant losses already. At the moment it seems that University Heights is the cream of the crop for the region, and then everyone else is looking up with lots of questions. As of now UHA looks to be worthy of the excitement. Here is what happened in Region 2 this week. 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#4 2018-19 record: 3-0 Week’s Record: 3-0 The Blazers surprised a lot of people when they opened the season as #4 in... Read More →

5th Region Week 1 Review

By Sportslover32 - 1. Larue County (1-0): The region favorite Larue, started the year with an overtime win. They beat a good team in Valley 64-60 going to overtime in the Corky Cox Classic at home. Mark Goode was fantastic for the Hawks as he had 22 points and 16 rebounds. The Hawks have only had four of the five starters for a week due to their football team making State Semis, so this team getting this win to start off the year is impressive. 2. Central Hardin (2-0): The Bruins had a good start to the year with two lopsided victories. They beat Nelson County at home 78-47 and beat Owensboro in the KY 811... Read More →

By PP1 - 1. Covington Catholic (2-0): No real tests for the Colonels the first week of the season. They got in triple digits on opening night against Ludlow and won 67-52 Thursday against Lexington Catholic. They travel to Ft Thomas on Monday night for a showdown against the 2-0 Bluebirds. 2. Cooper (1-1): Cooper’s loss to Dunbar is surprising in that they only scored 46 points. They travel across the river Friday to take on Elder, prior to that they host, district opponent, Conner Tuesday night. 3. Newport (1-0): The Wildcats defeated Bishop Brossart to move up a slot this week. They... Read More →

By Smallhoops - The first week of Seventh Region action produced as many questions as answers. What should we make of Ballard’s one-sided loss to Scott County? How should Male, Seneca and Waggener be ranked vis-à-vis one another? And just how good are the undefeated Walden Wolverines? The upcoming week may again produce more questions than answers. But one question that will be answered is this: can the Waggener Wildcats gain their first ever win against the Ballard Bruins? We will see Tuesday night. TEAM RANKINGS 1. By Carson Palmer - In our preseason preview we predicted this region would see teams beating each other from top to bottom in the rankings. Week 1 did nothing to disprove that theory. As upsets and surprises occurred across the region. Look for these rankings to be volatile all season long. 1. ELLIOTT COUNTY (3-0) The Lions proved they are worthy of their region favorite status.
