5A Notebook (9/7) Number two in question?

By JDEaston - Week two was a rough week for class 5A, with four of the top 10 teams taking losses, as well as nearly everyone in the 11-15 range dropping an L as well. Most of the top 10 losses were expected with Bowling Green, Highlands and Pulaski County all playing teams that were expected to win those games by most. One game that makes me scratch my head though was Fern Creek and Central. No doubt that Central is good and it was expected to be a close game regardless of who won, but the Tigers laid an egg losing 29-0 versus 3A #4 Central. Covington Catholic solidified why they have worked their way... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (9/6): Losses All Around

By DragonFire - It’s cliché, but I felt like the out of class teams were Oprah Winfrey this week against their 4A counterparts. “You get a loss, and YOU get a loss. Everybody gets a LOSSSSSSSSSSSS!” To say this week went poorly for 4A football would be a massive understatement. Of the top ten teams, seven lost, all to out of class teams. Several teams that are on the fringe lost as well. It was an ugly week that left everyone thinking – who in 4A is all that great? The most likely to be considered great in 4A is Johnson Central, but even they were tested further than one would think in a 40-28... Read More →

1A Notebook 9/5 - SHOWTIME!

By Voice of Reason - Ladies and Gentlemen, this week is SHOWTIME in 1A. What a slate of games we have on the schedule for this Friday. We have been asking questions about many of our 1A teams over the past couple of weeks. This Friday we should get a lot of answers. Review of Last Week Before we jump into this week's lineup though, let's take a quick look back at Hurricane Harvey weekend. Weather was the story as much as the games last week. Teams moved their schedules around to avoid playing in heavy rain and possible lightning. After all was said and done, it was a good week for the 1A top ten. Of the 9... Read More →

Class 6A Notebook 9/4: Seven unbeatens remain and real challenges for top teams

By thsrocks - Class 6A is down to 7 unbeaten squads after three weeks of play. Trinity, Saint Xavier, Pleasure Ridge Park, Male, Scott County, Simon Kenton, and unranked Ohio County. One of these teams will go down as Male and Trinity get it on. Scott County will have their hands full with Moeller (OH). Ohio County’s lack of strength in their schedule is keeping them out of the rankings. Last week, the BluegrassPreps membership voted on 8 games involving 6A ranked teams. The masses were correct in choosing #12 Ryle over Boone County; #9 Butler over 4A Western; #7 Pleasure Ridge Park over Eastern; #6... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 9/4- Kick, Kick, Hooray for Danville!

By ATLCat - Hazlett Has It: Ads Kick From Down Town for Bragging Rights in Title Town Showdown The consensus entering Friday's clash between #2 Danville and 3A Boyle County was that we were in store for a close game. I don't think anyone expected it to be as evenly matched as it ended up playing out, as both teams traded blows equally playing to a 7-7 tie late into the 4th Quarter. In a game that was defined by excellent Defense and missed opportunities, an unlikely hero emerged, err correct that, arrived. Nathan Hazlett did not arrive to the stadium until Halftime. Due to the game being... Read More →

1A Game of the Week: 1A # 1 Beechwood vs. 3A # 1 Corbin

By Bac2369 - This battle could be legendary! Week 3 presents to us on paper a battle of heavyweight champions. Those heavyweights are #1 Beechwood and #1 Corbin. Both are the top team in their respective class. It's not often to see a match up like this. Taking a look and trying to see if these two teams have crossed paths before and my search came up with nothing. So you diehard Beechwood and diehard Corbin fans can help us out. I do know one thing for sure though. if someone does find something or knows something we can almost guarantee that both of them were not number 1 when they played each... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (9/4)

By Ram - Class 1A The ranks of the undefeated are slowly starting to shrink. Last week Paintsville and Bishop Brossart tasted defeat for the first time. This week expect even more flawless marks to fall by the wayside with a heavy slate. Beechwood narrowly survived a sloppy field and a stout Somerset defense. The weather may improve for Beechwood, but so will their opponent as 3A's top team is on deck. Hazard will take on Somerset, looking to avoid the fate that Beechwood escaped. 1. Beechwood vs. 3A #1 Corbin 2. Hazard vs. 2A #10 Somerset 3. Kentucky Country Day vs. 2A Carroll County 4.... Read More →

Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 9/3/17

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2017 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 2 Edition WHOA NELLIE!!! HURRICANE HARVEY rolled into the Commonwealth and dumped substantial rain on Kentucky especially the I-65 corridor with Bowling Green receiving 8 inches of rain. This force of nature caused 48 Thursday games and 22 Saturday games. And I would say congratulations to all those Athletic Directors as by my estimation they were all good calls. AROUND THE STATE: Besides getting smoked by West Virginia 0-2 and Virginia 0-2, we schooled Ohio 3-2 and Indiana 1-0. Kentucky schools are doing well... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings 9-3-17

By Bert - 1. Trinity (3-0) – A 38-30 victory over Moeller rounds out Trinity three games against out of state powers. The Rock's undefeated record against those three solidified Trinity's #1 ranking. This week is certainly not easy as Trinity will face 6A #3 Male High School on Male's home turf in The Game of the Week. 2. St. Xavier (2-0) – The Purples have been a bit of a monkey on X's back over the last few years but the Tigers rolled out of Bowling Green with a victory. This week will be considerably easier as they welcome Fairdale 3. Male (3-0) – The Bulldogs round out the old Big 3 by... Read More →

3A Notebook: Hilton Back to Winning Ways on Log Mountain

By gchs_uk9 - Dudley Hilton Once Again Making Bell County Winners After completing a 7-4 season that ended with a playoff loss to Wayne County in 2016, speculation was rife that Dudley Hilton would return to Bell County for a third stint as head coach of the Bobcats. Hilton told WYMT "they really kind of persuaded me to come back. I probably turned it down about 25 times. We've got a lot of pride. My name's out there on the field. Bell County football means a lot to the area. They've lost a lot of good coal jobs. My heart's here in Bell County." (Dudley Hilton heading back to Log Mountain). Three... Read More →
