By Smallhoops - The teams of the Seventh Region displayed the Region’s depth this week, as multiple teams won holiday tournaments. Trinity went to Roebuck, South Carolina and won the Farm Bureau Insurance Classic; Ballard won the Apollo Fairfield Inn Invitational in Owensboro; Male won the City of Middletown Holiday Classic; and Seneca won the Stultz Pharmacy Holiday Classic at Greenup County. Other teams played well against teams from other regions, including Eastern’s impressive 73-71 win over Owensboro. And Collegiate continues to be the winningest team in the state. A lot of time will be spent... Read More → 5th Region Weekly Rankings (12/31/17)

By Sportslover32 - 1. John Hardin (12-2): John went 3 and 1 this week in the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic. Started it off with a 72-70 win over Paducah Tilghman in overtime. They lost to Pulaski 82-76, beat Clay County 93-67, and beat Dupont Manuel 63-53. John played a lot of good teams, and their one loss was to a very good Pulaski County team. Mickey Pearson had a 47 and 15 game vs Clay County. He continues to show why he is a Mr. Basketball candidate. If John could get Witherspoon back, good luck to the rest of the 5th region. 2. Larue County (11-1): The Hawks continued their winning ways as... Read More →

Inside the 4th Region (12/31/17)

By DragonFire - Can I just say how completely crazy and inconsistent this region has been so far? I feel 100% confident in the top two. 100% confident in the next three - in some order. Beyond that? They're all beating each other. Fourth Region Rankings 1) Warren Central (11-2) - 12/27 67-53 W Holmes (at Ohio County), 12/28 60-56 OT W Marshall County (at Ohio County), 12/29 84-67 W at Ohio County Previous Rank: 1 This Week: 1/5 at #8 Warren East, 1/6 at #3 Barren County The Dragons are at their best mark through 13 games in 15 years, and rebounded from a poor showing in Oldham County to win... By coachlee - The top 6 teams in the 6th region are all very close, not a lot separates them. Fern Creek has now won 19 6th region games in a row between the last two seasons and until someone in the 6th knocks them off they remain #1. Butler deserves #2 after winning all of their games this season so far. But those two are not going to run away from the pack as this region is so very competitive at the top. When January comes around in Metro Louisville, everyone associated with High School basketball gets excited for the Louisville Invitational Tournament (LIT) that kicks off beginning the 2nd week... The decline began before the end of their opener, where they jumped to a 40-21 lead at the half before their offense... Read More → 2nd Region Week 4 Review & Rankings

By silo11 - Not a whole lot of movement this week in the rankings. There was a big upset in Livingston Central defeating Webster County, but it didn’t affect the rankings. There is some improvement in teams near the bottom of the region and could see some movement in the coming weeks. Unless Hopkinsville gets their players back, don’t expect anything from them this year. This currently is a two horse race between UHA and Christian County and the top two scorers in the state. 1. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall *BGP #19 2017-18 record: 8-1 Week’s Record: 3-0 Last Weeks Rank: 1 ... Read More → 6th Region Weekly Rankings (12/26)

By coachlee - As we turn the page and enter the 2018 part of the 2017/2018 season, the 6th region has made a pretty convincing showing that this is the toughest region in the Commonwealth. It would take some convincing to dispute that any region can put up 6 teams as strong as the Top 6 teams in this week's rankings from the 6th. Case in point, the #1 ranked Tigers are the KOB champions who beat the #1 & #2 teams in the state rankings on their way to their 1st ever KOB title. The 6th ranked team this week is Doss who has only lost to Fern Creek, Christian County, and Lafayette who is doing very well... Read More → 10th Region Week in Review 12-25-17

By mcpapa - Last week's number two and number three both made strong statements last week and separated themselves from the rest of of the pack, but there was little if any movement at the top when all was said and done. Our number one hasn't lost since the first game of the season and our next two teams have won eleven straight between them. Let's get to it. 1. Campbell County (10-1, 4-0 region). Maybe some of the games have been closer that some think they should have been (in fact, the 5-point win over Newport on December 14 may in retrospect be a better result that originally rated), but Coach... By 15th Region - Overview: Pikeville takes down the Prestonsburg Holiday Classic Championship, Floyd Central and Pike Central continue to play solid basketball, JC is hit with the flu bug in Gatlinburg, and Shelby Valley has not won since playing away from home. Lots of basketball action in the Holiday season with more to come post-Christmas. Let’s see the rankings after four weeks of play. Rankings: 1. Pikeville (6-1) – The Panthers went 4-0 in week four with a win at Harlan Independent followed by taking the championship in the Prestonsburg Holiday Classic (wins over Cordia, Pike Central, and Morgan... By ApolloFan98 - 1.Owensboro Red Devils (9-2) – UP 2 - All the way to #1 this week, there is no hotter team in Western KY than the Owensboro Red Devils. Since starting the season 1-2 the Devils have reeled off 7 straight wins. Not only have they been winning, they have been dominate, winning by an average margin of 20 points. This past week, OHS knocked off Stewarts Creek, TN, St X, Daviess County and Bullitt East to win the Owensboro Invitational. The schedule shows them taking the week off before returning to action vs Castle, In next week. 2.Daviess County Panthers (8-3) – DOWN 1 - The Panthers went... By ColonelMike - Busy week in the 8th, and we learned a lot this past week about some of our teams. I'll keep today's recap short as I'm buried, like most of you, in family events today. Remember, the below rankings are NOT future predictions, but rather, where I see the teams TODAY. 1. Oldham County (11-0) - LAST WEEK: 1A Oldham County is one of just 5 teams left in the Commonwealth that have yet to lose to Kentucky competition. This past week was truly an impressive week for the Colonels as they gave the 8th Region probably its two biggest wins outside of the region so far this year. Oldham... By Sportslover32 - 1. John Hardin (9-1): John had a busy week, which was successful until the last game of the week, where they had their first loss of the year. John beat Larue 76-56 which was a statement win. They then played a Christmas tourney in Oldham County. They beat Grant County 84-62, beat Desales 78-59, and lost in title game to host Oldham County 88-60. Even though they lost big their last game, beating Larue County the way they did, isn’t a good sign for the rest of the 5th region. Pearson and Wright continue to be a strong 1/ 2 punch. 2. Larue County (8-1): Larue had a good week, even though... Read More → Inside the 14th Region Week 4 Re-Cap

By All State Baseball - 1. Knott County Central (8-1): The Patriots have rallied for 6 straight wins since their 74-57 loss to Knox Central in the WYMT Classic back in early December. 3 of those 6 wins came within this past week as they defeated Breathitt County 70-61 on the Bobcats own home floor. A 30 point win over district rival Letcher Central 78-48 and a thrilling 66-62 win over Louisville Central in the KY Bank Challenge at Rowan County. The Patriots will now head to Lexington Catholic to participate in the Traditional Bank classic and will open up with Henderson County. 2. Perry County Central (5-4):... By Smallhoops - T'was the day before Christmas . . . And we no longer have any undefeated teams in the Seventh Region. Trinity fell to Fern Creek in the championship game of the King of the Bluegrass. Waggener lost twice, to Scott County and George Rogers Clark. But we do have the winningest team in the Commonwealth in the Louisville Collegiate Titans. Already at 12 wins, the Titans look like they will easily eclipse the school-record 18 wins they recorded last year. This week brings a mixture of more holiday tournaments. Nothing as big as last week’s King of the Bluegrass tournament, which... Read More →
