Class 4A Notebook (9/25): A Double Rainbow

By DragonFire - I'm fond of using the double rainbow expression for something you're unlikely to see. In 4A, no teams losing in the top ten is essentially like seeing a double rainbow. It is super, super rare, but there it was last week, in all its glory. The result of that was the exact same top ten this week as the week before. In fact, the teams in the top ten didn't just win, they dominated. Nine games decided by an average of 33.77 PPG, which included a game called early in #8 Moore's 27-0 win over Valley. Only #7 Franklin County's district tilt at Shelby County provided any drama for a top... Read More →

6A Notebook 9/24: Midterms

By Bac2369 - We have reached the halfway point of the high school football season and the midterm grades are out. It has really been a very puzzling start in Class 6A football. Back in August, few would have believed that Trinity would be 1-5 at the half point of the season. We also had not just one, but two 6A schools lose to a 2A team. This week had two very good ranked matchups. We will start at the top, when #1 Male traveled to take on #6 Butler. Male showed exactly why they are the #1 in 6A, getting the 30-12 win. This game was very interesting for 3 quarters. Male played without two defensive... Read More →

Western Kentucky Power Rankings - September 24, 2018

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2018 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 6 Edition Concerning the top story line for this week, IS YOUR GLASS HALF EMPTY OR HALF FULL??? Our teams are either at the halfway point in the season or just past! So is your team doing pretty well (Half Full) or are they a little less than was to be desired (Get me a new Dixie Cup!!!)? I “think” there are a lot of WKY teams that are either on course or ahead of course for the year! Of course there are some misfiring teams and a lot of those have to thank tough schedules and player injuries!!! Here’s to a great ending to the... Read More →

Male will travel to 6A Pleasure Ridge Park this week. 2. 2A DeSales (5-0) The Colts handled their fourth higher classed team of the season, defeating 3A power Lexington Catholic 38-24 last week. BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (9/24)

By Ram - Class 1A Newton's Third Law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. As Pikeville was hanging their heads over a heartbreaking loss to an out of state opponent, Raceland was celebrating a huge win over a competitor of their own. The Rams move up a spot in the rankings following their stellar win on Portsmouth West's field and will now set their sights on a stout 2A Somerset team. Pikeville can not linger on their second loss in as many weeks. The Panthers have a massive District clash with Hazard awaiting. Beechwood remains at the top of the heap as the... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (9/23): District breakdown

By DevilMayCare - Now that district play is underway for most teams, it would be a good time to break down each one. There will be no cross bracketing this year for 5A. The districts will be paired straight up, 1 through 8 for the playoffs. District 1 Coming into this season, D1 looked to be one of the most hotly contested districts in the class. Defending champion Christian County had it's house cleaned by graduation and off-season transfers; Owensboro returned several difference makers on both sides of the ball and got an early Christmas present from Owensboro Catholic in the form of QB Will Warren;... Bluegrasspreps' Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 9-23

By ATLCat - 1. Johnson Central Golden Eagles (4A, 4-1)- The Eagles are now in District play and feasting as expected. After pounding Boyd County expect the same story against East Carter. 2. Belfry Pirates (3A, 4-1)- Belfry over matched Sheldon Clark and should do likewise this week hosting Floyd Central. If the Pirates can get healthy they are starting to show improvement. 3. Ashland Tomcats (4A, 6-0)- The Tomcats keep their perfect season alive with a convincing win over a vastly improved Rowan County team. There will be no reason the Tomcats are not 9-0 before their season finale with Johnson... Read More →

1A Notebook 9/19 - Spotlight on the the Other Guys

By Voice of Reason - As mid season is upon us, it is a good time to turn the spotlight on some teams outside the top ten who we have not talked about much this year. But before we get to that, let's take a quick look at what happened last week. 1. Beechwood LOST at 5A #1 Covington Catholic 14-49 .......... The Tigers jumped on top and hung with the powerful Colonels for a little over a quarter before Covington Catholic did their thing. The Tigers did accomplish something no Kentucky team had done in two years against the Colonels - they avoided a running clock. 2. Pikeville LOST vs. 3A #4 Belfry 21-36... Class 4A Notebook (9/18): The Top Is Set In Stone

By DragonFire - The top six teams in 4A seem to have completely solidified, with all six winning this week while the four teams at the bottom of the top 10 all lost by no less than 21 points. For better or for worse, it looks like we’ve got everything set in stone for a bit. #2 Franklin-Simpson and #3 Ashland put on the best shows this past week. Franklin-Simpson was seeking revenge for a home loss at the hands of Meade County a season ago, and had to grind out a 17-14 win to get it. Franklin had another huge day on the ground, with 355 yards on 52 carries, and outgained the Green Wave by over 180... Read More →
