2A Game of the Week: Owensboro Catholic vs. Evansville Reitz (IN)

By DevilMayCare - Week 0 reaffirmed what many of us already believed... class 2A is LOADED at the top. And there appears to be but a sliver of separation amongst the top 5. Danville, CAL, LCA, DeSales, and Mayfield all logged impressive season opening wins. Owensboro Catholic sits just outside of that quintet after a closer-than-expected 33-31 win over Daviess County. The Aces fell behind early and trailed by 10 at the half. A strong 3rd quarter put OCath ahead by a TD before Daviess County answered with a score midway through the 4th. A failed 2 pt conversion allowed Owensboro Catholic to maintain a slim... Read More →

Class 5A Preview

By JDEaston - This season of class 5A football features a lot of the same frontrunners that we have all been accustomed to seeing at the top of the class year after year. The Bowling Green Purples will once again carry the bullseye on their back as the defending champions, as well as the preseason favorite. However unlike last season, the Purples are in a bit of a reloading year so to say, so we will have to see if they will be as dominant as they were last season, or if there will be a handful of teams that could seriously challenge them for the title. When looking at teams that could challenge the... Read More →

Louisville Preseason Power Rankings

By Bert - Prior year regular season records in parentheses. 1. Trinity (10-0) – I normally don't automatically assign the preseason #1 ranking to the prior year #1 but so far Trinity has earned that right. Trinity's match up against mighty Carmel, IN High School should be a great match up but at the same time will be difficult to determine how strong Trinity really is. 2. St. Xavier (7-4) – The Tiger's prior year season may not have looked ideal with four losses but those four losses all came from eventual state champions (Trinity reg season, Bowling Green, Cincy St. X and Trinity playoffs). X... Read More →

High School Activities bring Communities Together!

By theguru - By Bob Gardner, Executive Director of the National Federation of State High School Associations and Julian Tackett, Commissioner of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. Tailgates. Pep rallies. Friday night lights. The new school year is here! And that’s exciting news for student-athletes and high school sports fans alike. Research shows that being a student-athlete is about a lot more than fun and games. It teaches important life lessons, too. In fact, high school athletes not only have higher grade point averages and fewer school absences than non-athletes, they also develop... Read More →

Central Kentucky Preseason Power Rankings - 2017

By All State Baseball - 1.Scott County Cardinals (11-3): The Cardinals seemingly ran wild on their opponents last season only picking up 3 losses the entire season including playoffs. Two of the losses came against Lafayette a 1-0 defeat due to a forfeit by the Cardinals. Lafayette would defeat the Cardinals 48-47 in the Class 6A state semi-finals ending the Cardinals season. The week before, a 2 point conversion was the difference in the Scott County-Ryle game with the Cardinals surviving. The Cardinals once again have a stellar schedule and why not? With their two leading offensive players returning; RB Brice... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Class 6A Preview

By thsrocks - The 2017 season in 6A starts with the addition of a new school, the Douglass Stallions. They are in District 7 with Bryan Station, Henry Clay, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Scott County. Not much else has changed in the landscape of this division. Trinity is heavily favored by Bluegrass Preps to repeat as state champions, followed by Saint Xavier and Male. This year’s playoff bracket has Saint Xavier & Male on the opposite side from Trinity and an all-Jefferson County final in Lexington appears to be highly likely on Sunday, December 3. 1. Trinity (15-0 defeated Lafayette for their 24th... Read More →

By thsrocks - After one year as a television broadcaster for Louisville area high school football, Mike Jackson returns to coaching as an assistant at Trinity High School. Coach Jackson proved successful as the leader of three Kentucky programs. Under Coach Jackson's tutelage From 2008-2015, Louisville's Ballard Bruins went 57-40, reaching the state semi-finals for 6A in 2014. As the head coach of Class A Pikeville Panthers, his teams went 25-12 from 2005-2007. The Oldham County Colonels competed in Class AAA and Class AAAA with Jackson in charge from 1997-2004. 6A Game of the Week: #1 Trinity hosts Indiana 6A #1 Carmel

By thsrocks - Carmel may be the most highly touted opponent on Trinity's schedule in 2017. The Carmel defense features junior defensive end Beau Robbins (6’ 4” 230 lbs) who holds 10 offers, including Northwestern, Michigan state, Louisville, Indiana, Purdue and Minnesota. BluegrassPreps 2017 Class 1A Preview

By Voice of Reason - Return of the King After losing several high quality D1 athletes from the 2015 state runner-up team plus other talent that went on to play college football, it looked like the 2016 Beechwood Tigers' prospects for finally getting that elusive twelfth title were not very promising. A new QB. A very young line. Not much size beyond the line of scrimmage. Inexperience everywhere. The young Tigers surprised everyone and made an impressive march to a 14-1 record and a state championship. The Tigers' opponent in the title game was also a surprise to some, but not to your BGP rankings crew. In... Read More →

Is 2A the premier class in the Bluegrass?

By DevilMayCare - When a program with the recent success of Mayfield begins the season ranked 5th in the BGP class rankings, the safe answer is... yeah, probably. No other class in the state can boast as much quality and depth at the top than 2A. You want brand name programs? How about the Danville Admirals, Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds, and the aforementioned Mayfield Cardinals? Those three schools have combined for 27 state championships. Mayfield is Mayfield, their presence here requires no explanation. The top ranked Admirals, under the guidance of Clay Clevenger, appear to be reclaiming their... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Class 3A Preseason Preview

By gchs_uk9 - 1. Belfry Pirates (2016: 14-1; Class 3A State Champions) Is this the year Pond Creek runs dry come the first weekend in December? Four consecutive seasons have ended with Coach Philip Haywood's Belfry Pirates taking the state championship trophy back to Pike County, but for the first time in years they are not a prohibitive favorite. The offensive line will have to be retooled somewhat, although early indications are the big boys up front should be able to hold their own. They'll be paving the way for last season's top two rushers, Derek Wellman (970 yards, 11 touchdowns) and Taveon Hunter... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' 2017 Class 4A Pre-Season Preview

By DragonFire - This time last year we still believed in the infallibility of a single titan in 4A – South Warren. The Spartans had completely leveled the landscape in 2015, and most believed they would do the same again. But along the way, they stumbled and the veneer cracked, and Johnson Central – the powerhouse that was seemingly forever a bridesmaid – picked up the pieces and flexed their might. The Golden Eagles crushed their 4A playoff competition by a combined 259-15, which included a 150-0 run in their final three games, taking home their long-awaited first state title. And they enter this year... Read More →

1A Game of the week 1A #7 Russellville @ 2A #10 Glasgow

By Bac2369 - Each team usually sets a specific goal they want to accomplish and they strive to meet it. 2016 had high hopes for both of Russellville and Glasgow as they returned a ton of talent and were thinking this may be their year to win a state title. Both had their dream seasons cut short against two powerhouse programs Beechwood and Louisville Desales. Now its 2017 each team will have a new set of goals they are looking to accomplish. Russellville comes in this season having to fill several holes from graduating a talented and deep senior class from 2016. Russellville will be breaking in a new... Read More →
