14th Region Week 8 Review

By All State Baseball - 1) Hazard (16-3): The Bulldogs come up short in the All "A" State Tournament at EKU McBrayer Arena. Hazard traveled to Richmond this past week to participate in the All "A" State Tournament. The Bulldogs got things started off with a thrilling 42-39 win over Louisville Collegiate thanks to a buzzer beating 3. Hazard would move on to play Paintsville in the quarter-final and they wouldn't have a problem with the Tigers as they would roll past Paintsville 48-39. Murray gets back on track and looks to continue to improve as does Marshall County. The last few weeks of the season should be good as team ready themselves for district and region tournaments. The Bulldogs are 20-0 after beating Bourbon County 73-53 in the 2A title game. The 2A MVP, Alex Matthews continues to lead the Bulldogs. There is a definite chance that they could end the week cutting down the nets at McBrayer. They went all the way to the 2A finals, defeating Lawrence County (68-56) and Lexington Catholic (71-66), before falling to #1 John Hardin (73-53).The win over Lexington Catholic was very impressive. Wade Phelphrey lifted the Bulldogs past Perry County Central with a buzzer beater. Hazard wouldn't have any trouble in they're other game as they would roll past the Buckhorn Wildcats 76-50. By zebraman - The big event of the week in the 16th region for week 7 was the all-A tournament in Raceland. The tournament saw some good basketball and ended with the Comets of West Carter holding the nets. The Region wished the Comets well as we get back into the slate of district games that are scheduled for week 8. At this point, in the 61st district, Rowan County and Bath County would be favored to head to the regional tournament. In the 64th, Ashland and Boyd are heavy favorites. By ApolloFan98 - 1. Ohio County Eagles (15-3) UP 1 The Eagles bounced back from being upset by Mclean County last week with two blowout wins over 3rd Region competition. They defeated Grayson County by 25 and Daviess County by 23. Freshman Elijah Decker led the Eagles with 18 in the win over Grayson County. Ohio goes on the road this week with games against Barren County and Muhlenberg County. The game on Friday at Muhlenberg is a big one.
