4th Region All 'A' Classic Preview

By DragonFire - The Favorite Clinton County (11-5) - Last year the Bulldogs entered the 4th Region All "A" with just a single loss on the year and boasting one of the strongest profiles in the region. Unfortunately they drew the region favorite Glasgow in the first game, and despite a strong effort, they fell to the Scotties, as they would again when they met in the region tournament in March. This year, however, they appear to only have one possible peer in Russellville, and also have the advantage of serving as tournament host. That gets them the nod over Russellville here. None of the other teams... Read More →

7th Region All 'A' Classic Preview

By Getslow - Ranking the Teams 1) Louisville Collegiate School (9-5) – The Titans boast not only the tournament’s best winning percentage but likely the tournament’s best player in point guard Andrew Steggeman. Collegiate has already beaten tournament participants Whitefield Academy and St. Francis. They also already have some success in the tournament format this season, beating Middlesboro, Spencer County and Betsy Lane en route to a Pikeville Invitational Tournament championship back in December. They also played close games with Doss and Waggener; Collegiate is definitely the team to beat here in... Read More →

9th Region All "A" Classic Preview

By Walter - 9th Region All “A” Classic Preview Through the first half of the season, two 9TH Region teams have stood out when you discuss the All A Classic and who the favorite is in the 9th region. Those two teams are the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds and the defending All “A” Classic state champion, Holy Cross Indians. Last season, the Indians defeated the Breds twice during the regular season, including a 63-46 win in the 9th region All A championship that eventually led to a state title run for Erik Goetz squad. This year, the roles are reversed. As of Monday January 7th, the... Read More →

13th Region All "A" Classic Tournament Preview

By Les - Here is the 13th Region preview. 2013 13th Region Class "A" Tournament Preview The Barbourville Tigers will try to repeat as the 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic champions, but it’s not going to be easy. The Tigers have put together a solid season so far, but teams such as favorite Jackson County, Pineville, Middlesboro, Williamsburg, Harlan and Lynn Camp will have a say in the matter as well. Pineville (has Brandon Simpson and Byron David Asher returning) entered the season as the hands down favorite, but after struggling so far this season, Jackson County moves to the top of the pack... 10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 6)

By Randy Parker - 10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 6) 1) We are approximately halfway through the 2012-13 basketball season & there has not been any change at the top of the boys basketball rankings. Mighty Montgomery County remains the team to beat in the 10th, sporting a 14-3 record, including three wins last week. The Indians had little trouble with a pair of Class A schools (Paris & Beechwood) & scored an impressive 92-77 victory on the road at Pendleton County. A 37 points, 5 assists performance by Wildcats guard Mason Monroe was not enough to stop Omar Prewitt and the talented Indians.... Read More →

10th Region Rankings Week of 1/7 to 1/14

By gold sunrise - We still have Montgomery Co and Bishop Brossart at the top of the list. After that we had some movement. Mason Co lost to Campbell Co and Boone Co and drop from 4th to 6th. That moves up Harrison Co and Campbell Co. a spot each. 7-10 have stayed the same. We have some good games this week, so we may see more movement next week. Your thoughts? 1. Montgomery County (14-3; vs. Bourbon County 1/8, vs. George Rogers Clark 1/11) 2. Bishop Brossart (12-2; @ Covington Holy Cross 1/8, vs. Pendleton County 1/10) 3. Scott (6-6; @ Simon Kenton 1/8, vs. Dixie Heights 1/11, vs. Calvary... Read More →

14th Region Notebook (Week #5)

By All State Baseball - Sorry guys I didn't do a notebook at the end of December, really was only 1 region game and it wasn't a big one so I took last week off due to that fact and the other region teams were playing in tournaments. Injuries/Sickness - Powell County (2) Caleb McCoy played with an injured thumb Friday Night against Lee County. Many thought he wouldn't play but he did. Brett Goodwin didn't make the trip to Lee County with Powell County Friday night due to sickness. - Hazard Nothing new except Josh Hollon being out with a broken ankle. Read More →

10th Region Class "A" Tournament Preview

By Randy Parker - 2013 10th Region Class "A" Tournament Preview Nicholas County & its first-class facility will play host to this year's 10th Region Boys Class "A" Tournament, taking place January 14th-19th. Three-time defending champion Bishop Brossart is the clear favorite to bring home the title, but Jason Hinson's Augusta squad has had its sight set on a trip to Frankfort as well. Nicholas County has the luxury of playing at home, but received the kiss of death having to likely square off with the tourney favorite in its first (and only?) game. The Bracken County Polar Bears are a scrappy,... Read More →

15th Region Notebook (Jan 1-6) (Top 10 rankings)

By dolamite - As we dig deep into the middle part of the high school basketball schedule, much has changed in the 15th region. Apart from two or three of our top pre season teams holding strong at top, the rest of the region has been a mixed bag. Pre season number one Johnson Central has stayed the course coming off of last seasons trip to Rupp. Behind D-1 prospect Shane Hall, The Golden Eagles have posted a 8-6 mark to this point with most of their losses coming out of region. As far as the region goes the only real blemish on their record is their 41-45 loss on the road at Sheldon Clark, so don't let... Read More →

10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 5)

By Randy Parker - 10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 5) 1. It was a week of significant accomplishment for two of the region's most decorated stars--perhaps the top two stars. Just a day after Christmas, Augusta guard Brent Bach scored his 1,000th career point in his team's dramatic comeback win vs. Iroquois. The junior guard scored 19 of his game-high 35 points in the 4th quarter, helping the Panthers storm back from a 21-point second half deficit. 2. The next day it was Montgomery County star swingman Omar Prewitt who scored his 2,000th career point in a convincing home win vs. East... Read More →
