"Winning Isn't Everything, It's the Only Thing"

By Ram - “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing” -- Vince Lombardi It’s easy for those that love football to get caught up in the success of the great programs around the state. You can often read debates about this team is great and is better then all other teams because............ We all know the great teams, we all know their accomplishments and accolades. While all these great teams are out trying to win another big game, there are other teams, teams that you may have never heard of, or not heard much about, who are fighting to make history just as much as the great teams. ... By CoachBuckett - What makes a team your rival? As I think about all the great rival games in high school football across the state I wonder what really makes that game a rivalry. There are games such as Trinity and Saint Xavier or Male and Manual. Also there are rivals like Mayfield and Paducah Tilghman that have been going on for a 100 years. Everyone will argue what the best rival game in the state. I am not here to debate who is the best. Because the one thing I have learned is every rivalry is important. I am more focused on what makes two teams a rival? Is what makes a good rival game based on... Read More →

Inside South-Central Kentucky Football (9-10-13)

By DragonFire - Inside South-Central Kentucky Football (9-10-13) -You may not have heard (it’s been REAL hush-hush) but Bowling Green (2-0) has a pretty good team. They continued their drive for another undefeated season with a third straight victory over St. X, 39-25, in their 32nd straight win overall. With that hurdle cleared, the only uncertainties that remain are their games against two teams from Tennessee. We already know they will defeat every Kentucky team they play. Good chance they’d defeat every team in Kentucky this year if they were to go head to head…. -South Warren (3-0) is also... Read More →

Mayfield Cardinals Insider, Week 4

By Toothpick - As week #4 rolls around, the 3-0 Mayfield Cardinals find themselves in familiar territory, ranked atop the state in the BGP polls and have even earned a little love from Dave Cantrell’s little smart pill machine rolling in at #19 in the entire state despite Cantrell’ machine having the Cardinals incorrectly at 2-1, an apparent error his little machine got from an incorrect score posting Saturday that had Tilghman as the winner of the 100TH tilt between Mayfield and Tilghman. The Cardinals are a impressive 46-2 over the past 3 seasons which ties them with Highlands for the best record in... Read More →

Beechwood Tiger Insider - Week Three

By EyeOfTheTiger - Week Two Recap A promising start took an ugly turn for the Tigers varsity in last week's game versus the Dixie Heights Colonels. Beechwood jumped out to a 13-0 lead and it looked easy. Then the Colonels decided to go to the old school Woody Hayes 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense. Except it was more like 10 yards and another first down on run after run. The Tigers never found a way to stop the Colonel running game and the end result was a 41-20 loss. The Beechwood JV got a measure of revenge as they defeated the Colonels 21-6. The passing connection of QB Grant Plageman to WR Clay... Read More →

Inside NKY Football: Week 2

By Walter - Once again, NKY football was in full gear Friday night and provided some nail biters, as well as a couple blow outs. Let’s take a look at how each team finished this week. Camels Get back on the Winning Track It was the Avery Wood show as the senior signal caller rushed for over 100 yards and 3 touchdowns, while also passing for 73 in a 21-20 win over Newport Central Catholic. Newcath had a chance to tie it after a touchdown with under 4 minutes to play but the extra point sailed wide. Campbell County was able to pick up a clutch 4th and 1 to seal the victory on the final drive of the... Read More →

Saint Xavier Insider- week three

By AvidTiger - This was a tough pill for me to swallow but I have to swallow it. I'm not so much upset that we lost but more so how we lost. I don't know why I expected anything different in the third week, but it was the same song just the third verse. Poor Qb play, poor third down defense, and an over emphasis on passing the ball. Though there were new lyrics in this verse .poor tackling. The rumblings in the stands and from fans I've talked to are not positive; Questions about why X didn't run the ball more? You have to wonder about Browning and how would Glaser have done with this talented team? ... Read More →

By Ram - Week in Review Raceland 47 Boyd County 7 The Rams looking to get back on the winning streak after a tough overtime lose to Ashland came in this week with something to prove and they did not disappoint early, taking the opening kickoff 80 yards and scoring on the first play from scrimmage. Raceland only allowed Boyd County one first down in the first half with two Raceland defensive scores. The Raceland offensive and defensive line proved to big and strong for the Lions. Boyd battled the entire game and had some signs of promise in the second half. Ashland 14 George Washington (WV)... Read More →

Bluegrass Area update - Week 3

By Bluegrasscard - Bluegrass Teams Update - Week 3 Who let the Dogs out? Dunbar is one states largest schools in enrollment and is home to a lot of Fayette County top athletes. But with constant coaching changes the program has struggled to find stable footing. In January Dunbar hired Paul Rains and Rains seems to have the Dunbar faithful feeling they have been let out of the dog pound. Dunbar had chance to beat Tates Creek in week 1 and has since posted big wins against East Jessamine and Woodford County. The road gets tougher for the Bulldogs, especially when district games hit... Caldwell County 2013 Week 3 Preview

By DreamKiller - Calls 2A #1, Caldwell County, is headed into a matchup of unbeatens at Class 5A Ohio County tonight. For Caldwell County, star quarterback, Elijah Sindelar, has yet to jell with his stable of receivers so far. Much of the load has been carried by the running backs, Jaylen Boyd and JaMichael Ellis, with Boyd doing most of the dirty work. The passing game has been there just enough to open up the running lanes for Boyd. The defense has given up 22 and 20 points in the the 1st 2 weeks, but a lot of that has been in the late going, after the game is way past decided. Running against these Tigers... Read More →
