By ApolloFan98 - The District pairings are set for all for districts within the 3rd Region, and if the regular season results are any indication, there should be some great games with great atmospheres. In the 9th, Owensboro will host and take on Apollo. In both pairings, the teams split the regular season games 1-1. The 10th, host Ohio County plays Mclean. They split the regular season games 1-1. Breck County hosts the 11th district and will take on Hancock County, who they split games with in the regular season. Whitesville Trinity hosts the 12th district, and while they are the 1 seed, they went 0-2... Read More → 5th Region Weekly Rankings (2/11/18)

By Sportslover32 - 1. John Hardin (21-7): The Bulldogs went 2 and 1 this week, and the one loss was to a top 5 team in the state. They beat Bardstown 93-65, beat Grayson County 85-55, and lost to Butler at Warren Central 56-50. John has continued to play very good ball lately, and how competitive the Butler game was shows that. Senior Malik Wright led them with 17 points versus Bardstown. They will play the winner of North Hardin and Fort Knox in the district tourney. 2. Larue County (23-2): Larue has continued to do nothing but win games, as they won both games this week. They beat Nelson County at Nelson... By 24Bricks - 16th Region Basketball in Review True to form, the region was unpredictable at best this week. Ashland fell to out-of-region Mason County. West Carter, Fairview and Menifee County all ranked in the bottom tier of the region picked up unexpected wins. The district tournaments are on the horizon and the outcome of each is still very much a toss up with the exception of, maybe, the 64th. The final week won’t alter the post season matchups, but will provide one last glimpse at the current state of each of the teams. 1. Ashland (20-3) – Surprisingly, the Tomcats only game over the week... Read More → Seventh Region update and rankings - 2/12/18

By Smallhoops - As we enter the last week of the regular season, most people are looking ahead to the post-season; the district tournament match-ups are set and the Seventh Region tournament promises to once again produce some outstanding basketball. But in addition to getting ready for the post-season, several teams have goals they are still chasing. Some have 20-win seasons within reach; some have 10-win seasons within reach; some have winning seasons on the line. Unfortunately, some seem ready for the season to be over. In addition to team goals, there are individual goals and honors in play. ... Read More → 4th Region Weekly Rankings (2/11/18)

Football Coaches' Clinics in the 21st Century

By ChiefSmoke - When I was a little kid, a recurring event on the calendar every winter was that my Dad would be gone a few days to THE clinic. I think the first clinics were the Kodak Coach of the Year Clinics that he attended in the early 70s. Usually, he attended that clinic and one that would be hosted by the University of Kentucky during their spring practice. When I was a young coach, I was excited to finally attend THE clinic which was held annually at the Galt House in Louisville. Many of the big names in college football would speak at that clinic. And, in my Dad's era, if you were not... Read More → Inside the 14th Region Re-Cap Week 10

The responsibilities of a HS Head Coach

By PurplePride92 - It’s become a recurring theme these days that HS Head Coaches aren’t doing enough to get kids athletic scholarships. That got me thinking. What exactly are the responsibilities of a HS Head Coach of any sport and where does getting kids athletic scholarships fall in priority of these responsibilities? I think there are some complex answers to this question and I’ll start with some of my answers. IMO there isn’t a HS Head Coach they won’t help his kids get an athletic scholarship if that kid shows the ability to play at the next level. However, I think the responsibility of getting a... By mooremiller31 - Another week of high level basketball has come and gone in the 11th Region. One thing we know for sure I who sits at the top without a doubt. After the #1 spot it gets a little crazy. You could make an argument for up to 5 different teams to be ranked #2. I'm going to do my best as always to break down this region!! Lets get to it!! Team Of the Week Scott County - The Cardinals had one of the more impressive weeks to date this past week. They picked up 3 wins over 3 quality opponents, Bryan Station, Henry Clay, and John Hardin, cementing themselves as the favorite to win this region.... By silo11 - District seedings are starting to work themselves out this week in Region 2 play. However District 8 still is up in the air and can actually finish in a 3 way tie. If Hopkinsville wins both games this week and UHA defeats Christian County, we have the 3 way tie. If Christian County defeats UHA, they will win the District. If UHA wins both of their games, they will win the district if Christian County loses, otherwise they will tie…its crazy. 1. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall 2017-18 record: 14-6 Week’s Record:4-0 Last Weeks Rank: 1 The Colonels seemed to have found... Read More → 1st Region Week 10 in Review & Rankings

By mcpapa - The victory train keeps rolling (mostly) for the region's top dogs. It's February, and the district tournaments are right around the corner. The Eagles are the new Super Bowl champions - will a bird represent the 10th at Rupp Arena in a few weeks? Here's a quick peek at last week. 1. Clark County (22-3, 10-1 region). The Cardinals ran their win streak to a dozen with a trio of wins. First was a surprisingly close 66-62 triumph over district for Bourbon County in which they lost most of a 20-point lead. Ryan Cooper had a team-high 19 in the game, Will Philpot had a dozen and Brennan... Read More → 15th Region Week 10 Recap and Rankings (2/5/2018)

By 15th Region - Overview: Ten weeks are in the books and district tournaments begin in just fourteen days across the state. At this point in the season sports fans usually have the regional winners narrowed down to two or maybe three favorites, but that’s not the case in the 15th. Seven teams have a legitimate shot at winning the region this season. Let’s see what happened after ten weeks of play. Rankings: 1. Pikeville (17-6) – The Panthers went 2-1 in week ten with wins over Jenkins and Harlan County (away and home respectively) and a loss on the road to Floyd Central 49-58. In the Floyd Central... By ColonelMike - We're down to the final two weeks of the 2017-18 regular season, and the 8th region favorite is.... LOL! Right now, we are looking at a region tournament that will likely feature at least five teams sporting 20+ wins, and probably two of the remaining three will have 18-20 wins. Considering that the "favorite" hasn't won the event since Oldham County took the title in 2012, it might be just as well for all involved that nobody wears the role of undisputed favorite today. As for who should be considered the favorite...reasonable people can surely disagree this year. If you... Read More →
