BluegrassPreps.com 5th Region Weekly Rankings (2/11/18)

By Sportslover32 - 1. John Hardin (21-7): The Bulldogs went 2 and 1 this week, and the one loss was to a top 5 team in the state. They beat Bardstown 93-65, beat Grayson County 85-55, and lost to Butler at Warren Central 56-50. John has continued to play very good ball lately, and how competitive the Butler game was shows that. Senior Malik Wright led them with 17 points versus Bardstown. They will play the winner of North Hardin and Fort Knox in the district tourney. 2. Larue County (23-2): Larue has continued to do nothing but win games, as they won both games this week. They beat Nelson County at Nelson... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 16th Region Ranking and Review (Week ending 2/11/18)

By 24Bricks - 16th Region Basketball in Review True to form, the region was unpredictable at best this week. Ashland fell to out-of-region Mason County. West Carter, Fairview and Menifee County all ranked in the bottom tier of the region picked up unexpected wins. The district tournaments are on the horizon and the outcome of each is still very much a toss up with the exception of, maybe, the 64th. The final week won’t alter the post season matchups, but will provide one last glimpse at the current state of each of the teams. 1. Ashland (20-3) – Surprisingly, the Tomcats only game over the week... Read More →

By Smallhoops - As we enter the last week of the regular season, most people are looking ahead to the post-season; the district tournament match-ups are set and the Seventh Region tournament promises to once again produce some outstanding basketball. But in addition to getting ready for the post-season, several teams have goals they are still chasing. Some have 20-win seasons within reach; some have 10-win seasons within reach; some have winning seasons on the line. Unfortunately, some seem ready for the season to be over. In addition to team goals, there are individual goals and honors in play. ... Read More →

Football Coaches' Clinics in the 21st Century

By ChiefSmoke - When I was a little kid, a recurring event on the calendar every winter was that my Dad would be gone a few days to THE clinic. I think the first clinics were the Kodak Coach of the Year Clinics that he attended in the early 70s. Usually, he attended that clinic and one that would be hosted by the University of Kentucky during their spring practice. When I was a young coach, I was excited to finally attend THE clinic which was held annually at the Galt House in Louisville. Many of the big names in college football would speak at that clinic. And, in my Dad's era, if you were not... Read More →

The responsibilities of a HS Head Coach

By PurplePride92 - It’s become a recurring theme these days that HS Head Coaches aren’t doing enough to get kids athletic scholarships. That got me thinking. What exactly are the responsibilities of a HS Head Coach of any sport and where does getting kids athletic scholarships fall in priority of these responsibilities? I think there are some complex answers to this question and I’ll start with some of my answers. IMO there isn’t a HS Head Coach they won’t help his kids get an athletic scholarship if that kid shows the ability to play at the next level. However, I think the responsibility of getting a... BluegrassPreps.com 2nd Region Week 10 Review & Rankings

By silo11 - District seedings are starting to work themselves out this week in Region 2 play. However District 8 still is up in the air and can actually finish in a 3 way tie. If Hopkinsville wins both games this week and UHA defeats Christian County, we have the 3 way tie. If Christian County defeats UHA, they will win the District. If UHA wins both of their games, they will win the district if Christian County loses, otherwise they will tie…its crazy. 1. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall 2017-18 record: 14-6 Week’s Record:4-0 Last Weeks Rank: 1 The Colonels seemed to have found... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps.com 2018 - Inside the 8th Region 2-5-18

By ColonelMike - We're down to the final two weeks of the 2017-18 regular season, and the 8th region favorite is.... LOL! Right now, we are looking at a region tournament that will likely feature at least five teams sporting 20+ wins, and probably two of the remaining three will have 18-20 wins. Considering that the "favorite" hasn't won the event since Oldham County took the title in 2012, it might be just as well for all involved that nobody wears the role of undisputed favorite today. As for who should be considered the favorite...reasonable people can surely disagree this year. If you... Read More →
