By ColonelMike - My apologies for the tardiness of this ranking....but we head into the final week of the regular season with the top 3 still firmly in the top 3 spots that they've held for a while.... 1 Walton-Verona (22-5) Last week: #1 The preseason number one remains in that spot this week after a pretty easy week last week. The Bearcats blasted Lloyd Memorial 72-33, and slammed St. Henry, 80-51 last week. Walton hit 50% or more in both games, and got - as usual - two sterling efforts from senior guard Brennan Stanley (15 and 16 points, respectively). Encouraging for the Cats was the fact... By mcpapa - This week marks the final week of the regular season, and not much has changed in the rankings. Our number one hasn't lost since 2017, our number two hasn't lost a region game all season, and our 16 and 17 haven't won a 10th region game yet. Let's take a quick look at last week and see how we look with the post-season just around the corner. 1. Clark County (25-3, 12-1 region). Coach Cook's Cardinals extended their streak to 15 with three victories last week. They started out slow in a 15-point win over Madison Southern but pulled away behind 25 from Ryan Cooper and 15 each from Jared... Read More → 9th Region Rankings 2/12/18

By mooremiller31 - The final week of the season is upon us and what a season it has been in the 11th Region. As always with this region we talk about it being one of the top regions in the state along with the 6th and 7th. I believe this year the 11th has been far and away the toughest most competitive region overall in the state. A couple of state championship contenders loom at the top of the rankings followed by a group of 3/4 teams that can beat anyone on any given night. Lets check out what is going on in the 11th Region this week! Team of the Week Madison Central - Not only are the Indians the... Read More → 15th Region Week 11 Recap and Rankings (2/12/2018)

By 15th Region - Overview: With just one week to go in the regular season, the 15th Region has seen Pikeville really slip since the loss of Byers, Johnson Central begin to peak at just the right time, Floyd Central continue to be competitive against the toughest schedule in the region, and Belfry remain red hot. This is the first week Pikeville has not been the top team in the region and the first week we have seen multiple buzzer beats decide games. Let’s check out the rankings and what happened in a wild week eleven! Rankings: 1. Shelby Valley (19-7) – The Wildcats continue to roll and after a 3-0... Read More → 3rd Region Rankings 2/12/18

By ApolloFan98 - The District pairings are set for all for districts within the 3rd Region, and if the regular season results are any indication, there should be some great games with great atmospheres. In the 9th, Owensboro will host and take on Apollo. In both pairings, the teams split the regular season games 1-1. The 10th, host Ohio County plays Mclean. They split the regular season games 1-1. Breck County hosts the 11th district and will take on Hancock County, who they split games with in the regular season. Whitesville Trinity hosts the 12th district, and while they are the 1 seed, they went 0-2... Read More → 5th Region Weekly Rankings (2/11/18)

By Sportslover32 - 1. John Hardin (21-7): The Bulldogs went 2 and 1 this week, and the one loss was to a top 5 team in the state. They beat Bardstown 93-65, beat Grayson County 85-55, and lost to Butler at Warren Central 56-50. John has continued to play very good ball lately, and how competitive the Butler game was shows that. Senior Malik Wright led them with 17 points versus Bardstown. They will play the winner of North Hardin and Fort Knox in the district tourney. 2. Larue County (23-2): Larue has continued to do nothing but win games, as they won both games this week. They beat Nelson County at Nelson... By 24Bricks - 16th Region Basketball in Review True to form, the region was unpredictable at best this week. Ashland fell to out-of-region Mason County. West Carter, Fairview and Menifee County all ranked in the bottom tier of the region picked up unexpected wins. The district tournaments are on the horizon and the outcome of each is still very much a toss up with the exception of, maybe, the 64th. The final week won’t alter the post season matchups, but will provide one last glimpse at the current state of each of the teams. 1. Ashland (20-3) – Surprisingly, the Tomcats only game over the week... Read More → Seventh Region update and rankings - 2/12/18

By Smallhoops - As we enter the last week of the regular season, most people are looking ahead to the post-season; the district tournament match-ups are set and the Seventh Region tournament promises to once again produce some outstanding basketball. But in addition to getting ready for the post-season, several teams have goals they are still chasing. Some have 20-win seasons within reach; some have 10-win seasons within reach; some have winning seasons on the line. Unfortunately, some seem ready for the season to be over. In addition to team goals, there are individual goals and honors in play. ... Read More → 4th Region Weekly Rankings (2/11/18)

Football Coaches' Clinics in the 21st Century

By ChiefSmoke - When I was a little kid, a recurring event on the calendar every winter was that my Dad would be gone a few days to THE clinic. I think the first clinics were the Kodak Coach of the Year Clinics that he attended in the early 70s. Usually, he attended that clinic and one that would be hosted by the University of Kentucky during their spring practice. When I was a young coach, I was excited to finally attend THE clinic which was held annually at the Galt House in Louisville. Many of the big names in college football would speak at that clinic. And, in my Dad's era, if you were not... Read More → Inside the 14th Region Re-Cap Week 10

By All State Baseball - 1. Knott County Central (20-5): The Patriots picked up 4 big wins last week, all within the region. The Patriots would return to action the very next night, hosting Cordia in a big district game, winning 54-48 over the Lions. Knott Central would also win their next two games on back to back nights as well, defeating Perry Central 80-70 and Wolfe County (2nd time this season) 66-45. The responsibilities of a HS Head Coach

By PurplePride92 - It’s become a recurring theme these days that HS Head Coaches aren’t doing enough to get kids athletic scholarships. That got me thinking. What exactly are the responsibilities of a HS Head Coach of any sport and where does getting kids athletic scholarships fall in priority of these responsibilities? I think there are some complex answers to this question and I’ll start with some of my answers. IMO there isn’t a HS Head Coach they won’t help his kids get an athletic scholarship if that kid shows the ability to play at the next level. However, I think the responsibility of getting a... By mooremiller31 - Another week of high level basketball has come and gone in the 11th Region. One thing we know for sure I who sits at the top without a doubt. After the #1 spot it gets a little crazy. You could make an argument for up to 5 different teams to be ranked #2. I'm going to do my best as always to break down this region!! Lets get to it!! Team Of the Week Scott County - The Cardinals had one of the more impressive weeks to date this past week. They picked up 3 wins over 3 quality opponents, Bryan Station, Henry Clay, and John Hardin, cementing themselves as the favorite to win this region.... Read More →
