By All State Baseball - Knott County Central gets first loss of the season, takes 3 out of 4 in the Beach Ball Classic at Myrtle Beach, improve to 11-1 Knott County Central and coach BB King would make the trip to South Carolina to participate in the annual Beach Ball Classic, Scott County was another KY team that made the trip but no game between the two KY teams. St. Johns College DC in the King of the Bluegrass and Pope John XXIII NJ in the Battle of the Villages at The Villages FL. Taylor County would rebound in the Battle of the Villages by defeating the hometown Villages 71-31 and Archbishop Moeller OH 61-57. By Region 1 Basketball - Top Teams: 1. Calloway County, 11-1, The Lakers won the Christmas tournament they were in Fort Walton Beach. They return to regional action this Saturday @ home vs. McCracken County. They beat them in December 68-44. 2. Murray, 9-4, Murray took some losses during the holiday tournaments but they were to solid teams. They lost to Bowling Green, Henderson County, and Caverna. Overall they went 3-3. What we have seen in the past two weeks is that the 13th Region might be a bit stronger overall than many had imagined. Williamsburg has flexed its muscles and captured the Cumberland Falls Invitational this past week against a good Corbin team on its home court while teams such as Knox Central has held its own against me of the state’s top teams despite being without some of its best players. By Randy Parker - Royals win Murph Classic, finish 3rd in Gateway Classic, get 1,200th win in school history Chris O'Hearn's Mason County team finished its pre-Christmas slate by winning the Mike Murphy Classic. The Royals beat pesky Augusta 74-63 in the semi-finals, led by a career-high 20 points from senior guard Ryan Johnson. Then 24 hours later, Mason upended Madison Central in the championship game, with Dorian Henry's 27 points & 9 rebounds leading the way. After Christmas the 15th Region saw teams compete in the Lake Cumberland Holiday Classic, the Pikeville Invitational, the Mountain School Boy Classic, and the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic. As of now, Doss has been the only team to upset the Red Devils and that came in the King of the Bluegrass. By 15th Region - The Pre-Christmas Tournaments and Showcases have been completed and week 3 is in the books for 15th Region. Pike Central won the Hi Tech Signs and Graphics Tournament (defeating fellow 15th Region participant Prestonsburg in the championship) while Pikeville and Betsy Layne both had good showings in the Derby Classic in Raceland.
