15th Region Notebook (Jan 1-6) (Top 10 rankings)

By dolamite - As we dig deep into the middle part of the high school basketball schedule, much has changed in the 15th region. Apart from two or three of our top pre season teams holding strong at top, the rest of the region has been a mixed bag. Pre season number one Johnson Central has stayed the course coming off of last seasons trip to Rupp. Behind D-1 prospect Shane Hall, The Golden Eagles have posted a 8-6 mark to this point with most of their losses coming out of region. As far as the region goes the only real blemish on their record is their 41-45 loss on the road at Sheldon Clark, so don't let... Read More →

10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 5)

By Randy Parker - 10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 5) 1. It was a week of significant accomplishment for two of the region's most decorated stars--perhaps the top two stars. Just a day after Christmas, Augusta guard Brent Bach scored his 1,000th career point in his team's dramatic comeback win vs. Iroquois. The junior guard scored 19 of his game-high 35 points in the 4th quarter, helping the Panthers storm back from a 21-point second half deficit. 2. The next day it was Montgomery County star swingman Omar Prewitt who scored his 2,000th career point in a convincing home win vs. East... Read More →

8th Region News & Rankings

By 8thRegionGuy - First off, we hope that everyone had a great Christmas holiday and that travels were safe. This past week saw the Grant County Braves become the first team in the region to make double digit wins. Undoubtably, the best start for the Braves since before the 1998/99 year. This past week at the Arby's/KFC Holiday Classic at McCreary Central, they went 3-1 with 2 wins over Rowan County and one against Taylor County. The loss against SouthWestern. They are at the Shirley Kearns Tournament this week at Model. Collins this past week also went 3-1. A win against Louisville Holy Cross and... Read More →

10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 4)

By Randy Parker - 10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 4) 1) Four weeks into the season & Bishop Brossart remains the only 10th Region team without a loss. Monday & Tuesday saw the Mustangs record wins 7 & 8 of the young season. On Monday night Mike Code's crew upended 9th Region power Newport 63-51 in Alexandria. The following evening, the 'Stangs made quick work of 37th District foe Calvary Christian. The Mustangs present a very balanced attack, with three players averaging double figures scoring: Justin Saunders (16 ppg), Alex Trentman (13.9 ppg), & Drew Burns (10.8 ppg). Trentman's play,... By Randy Parker - GoldRandyPa brings you, BGP Nation, its every-other-week 10th Region Top 5 Performers list. The rankings below reflect Weeks 3 & 4 of the basketball season. Enjoy the list & tell us where we're right or wrong. .gif #1- Corey Holbrook (Campbell County)- The junior guard hasn't carried a Camels team without Nate McGovney all by himself, but Holbrook has produced some crazy scoring numbers. Three times Holbrook notched 30 plus points (33 vs. Newport, 31 at Amelia, & 31 vs. Henry County at Western Hills). In six games Holbrook averaged 25.8 ppg. #2- Brent Bach (Augusta)- No one in their... Read More →

11th Region Notebook

By AllAboutthe11th - Last Week • Madison Central had a strong showing in the King of the Bluegrass, including avenging a loss to Bullitt East 64-58 to claim 3rd. The fact the Indians were still in the main bracket after their first two games was somewhat of a miracle. They overcame last minute deficits and beat both St. Xavier and Fairdale in overtime. Ken-Jah Bosley, after struggling all night due to sickness, scored 13 of his 15 points in the last minute of regulation (including a 3 to tie in the final seconds) in the win over St. X, then scored 40 while the Indians overcame a 5-point deficit in the last... 8th Region Notes/Rankings - Week 3

By 8thRegionGuy - First thing that jumps out at me from last week is the Eminence Warriors. Yes, I said Eminence. A 3 game winning streak for Coach Nethery and the Warriors with wins against Berea, Portland Christian and Heritage Academy. They will need to continue the momentum this week as they face District rival Owen County on Tuesday night. Grant County won 2 of 3 last week with wins against Bourbon County and Calvary Christian. Tyler Carr with 34 against Bourbon County The Braves sit at 7-1 on the year. Gallatin County is on a 5 game win streak and has most of this week off before the border war... Read More →

10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 3)

By Randy Parker - 10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 3) 1) He has already built quite a name for himself in Mt. Sterling and throughout the Bluegrass, but Omar Prewitt of Montgomery County made history in his team's 27-point Wednesday night win over 40th District rival Bourbon County. The 6'5" senior's 18 points & 8 rebounds were impressive, but Prewitt scored his 1,866th point in the contest, earning himself the top spot on the school's all time boys' scoring list. The William & Mary bound guard certainly has other goals in mind for his final high school season, but this accomplishment... Read More →

12th Region Notebook

By PurplePride92 - 12th Region Notebook East Jessamine has a 5-3 record and has quality wins over Lincoln County and Garrard County. They are being led in scoring by Ronnie Carson and Timmy Bradshaw which is exactly what was expected from East. They have losses to Boyle County and Mercer County and are currently on the outside looking in to get the much needed 1 seed in their district. Too early to panic but not too early to be concerned. West Jessamine was off to a great start and still is despite a 94-51 pasting from the hands of Henry Clay. That game was a great opportunity for West Jessamine... Read More →

8th Region Notes, Schedules & Rankings

By 8thRegionGuy - Last week saw some of the rust wear off of some of our teams in the 8th Region. Gallatin County started out 0-2, but has rattled off 4 straight including last night's 31st district win against Eminence. 3 of the 4 wins were all NCKC Conference wins with the 4th against the 10th Region's Scott Eagles. Grant County has come out of the gate strong with a 5-0 start including a 32nd district win against Simon Kenton this past week. I neglected to mention the Braves last week. I apologize to Coach Hicks and the team for that. They lead the district with a 2-0 record with Walton-Verona... Read More →

10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 2)

By Randy Parker - 10 Notes From The 10th Region (Reviewing Week 2) 1) You could spend a week researching the annals of 10th Region basketball & be hard-pressed to find a better back-to-back scoring performance than what Brent Bach of Augusta achieved in road contests with Pendleton County (Thursday) & Bourbon County (Saturday). The 6'0 junior poured in 45 points in his team's 102-89 loss to the Wildcats & very nearly matched that effort with 41 points in an 82-60 win over the Colonels. 2) The 45 points on Thursday night wasn't the only story out of Falmouth. Mason Monroe of Pendleton County... Read More →
