For four straight years (2007-2011) the Johnson Central Golden Eagles have made it to the regional championship and the result has been the same, they have lost. From 2008-2011 Johnson Central has lost the regional championship to Highlands who would go on to win Class 4A State Title. 2007 Johnson Central lost the regional championship to Lincoln County, who would go on to lose in the semi-finals to eventual state champions, Highlands. Conner Cougars

By Walter - Coming in to last season expectations were high for the Conner Cougars. Not only did they return one of the best playmakers in Northern Kentucky in Cameron Fogle, who is now at the University of Kentucky, they also returned one of the top quarterbacks in the country for the class of 2014 in 6’3 Drew Barker, who is now also committed to the University of Kentucky. Most close to the program have dreaded the 2013 football season for several years knowing that this would be the year Russell would have the most trouble in many many years. After several down years, this will be rock bottom for the Red Devils, and hopefully the start of a rebuilding process that will reap future rewards. By All State Baseball - Breathitt County How will the Bobcats do without longtime head coach, Mike Holcomb? Kyle Moore has been named the new head football coach at Breathitt County. Kyle was Breathitt County’s QB from 94-98, during that span Kyle lead Breathitt to a 62-7 record with 2 straight state championships and 2 straight 15-0 seasons. Kyle replaces longtime coach Mike Holcomb who left Breathitt for Letcher County Central back over the summer. The Bobcats lost a total of 15 players from last year’s team due to graduation. After a sluggish 2 -4 start, the Breds won 9 straight, en route to the Class 2A state championship with a win over Caldwell County 30-26. Heading in to the 2013 season, Newcath will be looking for their third state championship in 4 years. They will have to do so, however, without former head coach Eddie Eviston, who accepted a position to coach at Georgetown College. Coach Carl Hayden has accepted a new position in the Fayette County school system and will not be at the helm in 2013. Assistant Eric Shaw was named as head coach in mid-summer. For three straight years dating back to 2010, the Belfry Pirates have went to the state championship game against Louisville Central and each year turned out to be the same result with Louisville Central coming out on top. Belfry seems to have a problem winning the big game as they have failed for three straight years. In 2012 Estill County had a disappointing season going 0-10 and missing the playoffs for the second straight year. Engineers were plagued by injuries in 2012 including losing two of their best players in Trevor Jones and Taylor Tate for the entire season due to ACL injuries.
