Inside the 15th Region (1-25-15)

By 15th Region - Overview: Will the best team in the 15th Region please stand up? Week 8 results gave us a return to what our preseason rankings predicted, showed that a great team can play great and still get beat, saw a key player return to one of our contenders with a bang and reaffirmed that 15th Region middle of the pack teams are consistently inconsistent at best (Example: Allen Central upsetting Paintsville in OT then getting blown out the next game by a 5 win South Floyd team). With District Tournaments just a month away, bench rotations are beginning to shorten and possessions per game reduced as... Read More →

Inside The 11th Region (1/25/15)

By JokersWild24 - Welcome back for another week folks. Plenty of big games as the district schedules for most teams in the 11th have started to play out and we've seen the Eagles of Lexington Christian punch their ticket for another run at the All A State Championship. Let's get right to it. Player of the Week – Isaiah “Pun” Tisdale – Henry Clay: Pun might as well be short for Punisher, because that’s the best descriptor for this kid’s scoring ability. Hanging 30 on Ballard in their own gym is enough to get my attention. Read More →

6th Region All "A" Classic Final Preview

By GoHardITP - Tonight Shawnee and Holy Cross will meet to see who earns the trip to the All "A" tournament representing the 6th Region. Holy Cross beat Beth Haven in their semi-final game 41-36. Shawnee beat Evangel Christian 80-64. Shawnee is 8-8 and even with lop sided losses to teams like PRP or Southwestern, they still have been competitive or beaten public school teams in the 6th & 7th region. Holy Cross on the other hand has a 8-10 record and unlike Shawnee has not been able to beat or even stay close with most of the public school teams they have played in Jefferson County. They lost to PRP by... Read More →

Feggins shocked by short stint at Central

By theguru - Howard Feggins said he was shocked when Warren Central decided to move the football program in a different direction and replace him after one season. Feggins said he was given a text to come in to meet and next thing he knew it was a two-hour evaluation on the decision to go in a different direction. “Yeah 6-5 is not anything I would accept as a good season for me,” Feggins said. “I could use the excuse that we lost to Bowling Green, a team that has had great success here in the area, Owensboro, who lost in the state championship, Highlands, who won a state championship, DeSales, who... Haywood's Book Definitely Worth the Read

By Ram - MARK MAYNARD: Haywood’s book definitely worth the read By MARK MAYNARD The Independent Philip Haywood started his high school coaching journey in 1975, the fall before I started my journalism career with this newspaper by covering the Kiwanis Bowl in Putnam Stadium. That makes both of us old. Haywood was the new young coach at Prestonsburg High School and that’s where the two of us become acquainted and began a long distance friendship over the years. Back in those days, our coverage sometimes stretched to Prestonsburg and was strong in the Big Sandy valley. He coached at... Read More →

Inside the 6th Region (1/20/15)

By GoHardITP - We have completed games almost at the mid point of the season and here in the 6th region we also have the most recent performance of teams from last week's LIT which hosts the best of the 6th & 7th regions in a mid season invitational. This body of work gives ample opportunity to provide the rankings which are slightly changed from last reporting. Interesting of note is that during LIT week, (3) Region Six teams made the Elite Eight to (5) Region Seven teams. The semi-finals were even with (2) from both regions, and of course the champion, Ballard, was from Region 7. That indicates a... Read More →

Is Covington Catholic really that good a job?

By East Raider - For most High School football coaches looking at Cov. Cath, is it really that great a job? Let me start by acknowledging that Cov. Cath is in fact a very good job relative to most in KY...BUT then let me also present these obstacles that may show that its underbelly leaves a lot to be desired. Problem 1: It's a private school. That means you're giving away years when it comes to retirement. It also means you're not going to have great salaries (usually). This nix'es a lot of good potential candidates. Problem 2: Highlands. You can't get away from them. Their feeder system is... Read More →

Inside the 9th Region (1/20)

By Walter - In last week's edition of "Inside the 9th Region," I stated that there was one elite team and two really good teams that were likely closer to one another than the #1 team...and this week we now know that couldn't have been further from the truth. Let's get right in to it as we review this past week's action. Top 10: 1. Covington Catholic (13-4) Why: The Colonels went 2-1 this week but knocked off the previous #1 team in the region to take control of the top spot in the 9th Region.
